We were having trouble getting kitchen cabinets and we went in and talked to Victor. They had lots of colors and styles to choose from and were able to get the cabinets in two weeks. I was a bit nervous given the mixed reviews, especially on customer service with the owner who has treated others terrible. I went into the showroom with my wife and kids. The salesman was already busy with another couple, which was fine because we weren't sure what we wanted exactly and needed to look around. After we had looked around and had questions on several types of porcelain wood tile, the salesman Greg came over and gave us prices and answered our questions. He provided a printed quote for materials and install. They sent Pablo out to my house to measure and look at the rooms they were going to install. He was very polite and professional. He measured the floor and also answered several questions I had and made recommendations as to how it might best look installed as far as the pattern goes. I ended up finding a cheaper price (only by .10/ft) on the materials so I had ordered it from another supplier. I called a few weeks later ready to install and they were happy to still assist me and didn't' treat me any different given that I didn't buy the product from them. They arrived on time and removed my carpet and began installing my floor. It took a total of 2 1/2 days for install, but the installers were courteous and did a great job. I'm happy to recommend based on our experience and the results speak for themselves. read more

Totally irresponsible with the poorest customer support. North Phoenix and Chandler share the name but one claims to know nothing of what the other is doing. They installed expensive glass tile in my bathroom and 3 of the panels cracked from behind. I called twice for an estimate to repair and they keep pushing the problem off between the 2 locations. I ordered a 3 piece set of silver travertine pavers for my pool area. A few days later 6 pallets were left on my front yard so I had my installers begin installing. We noticed the color wasn't correct after installing and went to question Tanner but they were closed that day. A few days later another truck showed at my house with the correct material so I contacted Tanner and they had no clue about the first shipment of pavers being delivered. While trying to work out the issue I advised Tanners what my installers wanted to switch out the pavers and the manager blew his lid! After this interaction I refused to deal with him and asked to speak to the owner to no avail. Tanner demanded that I give the correct pallets back or I will be charged with GRAND THEFT! The next day I received a call from the owner who just started screaming on the phone that they were filing charges on me for GRAND THEFT! Mike Tanner has continously called me quote "A LIAR AND A THIEF"This was within 2days of me contacting them to tell them they screwed up!I was contacted by an investigator and she was totally for them so Tanner offered me to either pay for the wrong shipment or face grand theft charges! My attorney advised me to get the police out of the equation so I paid another almost $8,000 for their mistake! This place could not accept for one second that they made a $8,000 mistake and never offered to resolve the issue without me giving back the material that I ordered and paid for!DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!!! "What? You're the Owner?" I have to agree with Brendan K. and Jason F.'s experience. And if you want anything done, please don't talk to the owner who is Mr. Tanner. We had granite counter tops. Upon delivery, we notice a crack near sink opening. They had told us this was a "fissure." After 1 week of discussion, we took their word for it and they counter tops would be delivered and the "fissure" would be epoxied and sealed and not to worry again. Upon installation, the granite cracked at the same place they had told us was a "fissure." We had to fabricate another slab, but that also broke and we had to select a different granite countertop all together. Greg- in sales seems genuine and wants to make things right, but talking to the person who answers 90% of the calls (Mr. Tanner who is the owner) is like talking into a black hole. You can call and leave a message which 30% of the time will be returned or message given, but a simple solution as hire a receptionist to take your messages would be more wise than allowing the owner who may have memory problems take the calls. He will tell you that he has taken "700 calls this morning" and therefore it is impossible for him to deliver your message to the appropriate people or return your calls or remember anything which he told you over the phone or in person. If you want to avoid frustration, then don't come here. The owner then stated that if he had "given the countertop for free, your wife would still not be satisfied." I say try me. My wife had started a kitchen redo, but she passed away 2 weeks ago. The kids and I knew how much she looked forward to this, so I moved forward by calling Tanner's, talked to Mike, and we set up an appointment on his calendar. Long story short, I showed up at his place and as far as I know, he did not. I waited over half an hour, and no one there appeared to want to call him and I never was contacted by him. He did not appear to care about the job, he disrespected the memory of my late wife, he has never followed up with a call, and I left the materials she chose because if appointments aren't being kept, it would be logical that projects won't be completed correctly. If there was a way to do business with this company and only deal with Mike the owners son than this would be a four or five star review. Jim has no customer service skills and will be negative and impossible to deal with. Look at all the other negative reviews based on working with Jim. He will make you upset and wishing you never did business with them. Also, make sure you check your receipt because they will overcharge you on the thinset and grout. Worst experience with a company I have ever had. I would not recommend this place to anyone! If you have choice to go anywhere but here chose that. My husband and I went in on a Tuesday to place an order for plain white subway tile for our kitchen backsplash that we would be installing ourselves. We met with a man named Jim who did not have great customer service but that was fine since he was to the point. We gave him our measurements, he gave us a price and we were told the tile would be in Friday and to expect a call from them Wednesday morning to confirm the order. We never received a call (little did I know this would be a trend with Tanner Materials). I then called them on Thursday just to make sure everything was good for Friday since I had not yet heard from them. Spoke with Jim again and he had no clue who I was. We were on the phone for about an hour in which I found out no order had been placed, giving my measurements to him again, and quoted an insane amount more than we were originally (later to find out he did not have the right measurements). At the end of the call I was told times similar to what I wanted were in stock at MSI and I was to pick them up Friday after work. Jim also stated he would give me a call in the morning to confirm (this I highly doubted) but took his word for it. Morning came and went so I called and again spoke with Jim. And again he had no clue who I was or what I was talking about. After a while I was given the address to go pick up the tiles that were to be set aside for me. MSI was 45 minutes from my job (without traffic). I get to the front desk and they have no idea what I am talking about. I call Tanner once again and this time it was the son. The son also had no clue who I am so I had to re-explain everything for about the 5th time in 2 days. He and MSI states they had no clue what I was told or why but they did not have any of my tiles in stock. The son then stated and I quote "Trust me I wish I could keep my father off these phones. I spend all day cleaning up his messes." He then said he would see if his other vendor had the tiles in stock. Turns out they did not. I explained that I needed the tiles this weekend so they could be installed to be ready for an event. Asked if the tiles were ordered if they could install them and was told there was no way he could help me with that either. I asked if there was nothing he could do for me and he stated he simply could not help me. And that was it. I was so frustrated with this company and the situation it brought me to tears. Why did we wait....? Once we decided it was time to update our kitchen, Tanner Materials made it easy. We worked with Mike and Jim to get a quick education on the various counter top materials available today and then in selecting the specific granite color and design. They cut down the existing breakfast bar and created a spacious and modern kitchen peninsula. We extended our center island 2 ft. and dropped in two new sinks and facets. The materials I wanted, i learned last week were not available on short notice (not what I was told). The materials i ordered last week was to arrive friday (it didnt). A crew was to be here last week to start shaping a shower basin and doing the pre work on walls. (they didnt show up). Thursday call... they confirmed a crew would be here friday morning (they stayed 15 min then left). Friday call said a crew would be here Sat morning (no show). Call monday at 9 said another guy would be out at 10 (no show) a call at noon said he just sent my address over to a guy should be arriving soon ( no show) now they are not taking my calls. They did not however send modified contract and later when they did not do the bar claimed that we did not have it in writing. The younger TANNER immediately threatened litigation and used vulgar language to my wife and eventually me. I called the older TANNER (the dad) and received more of the same. How they stay in business with this type of customer service is beyond me. I've been using this company for 8 years now and have installations done by them and also just purchased tile and installed it myself. Overall I spent approximately $20,000 here. Twice I have over estimated the quantity of tile I needed and had no problem returning the excess until today. The owner of this company is a very rude person to deal with. Let me share my experience with Mr. Jim "Don't you understand English?" Tanner, the apparent owner of Tanner Tile and Materials. And let me add that I would never, ever recommend anyone do business with him. This past Monday morning I called to check on the status of my tile order (a nearly $2,000 order) for the remodel of my home. The tile, according to Mr. Tanner, was supposed to arrive the previous Friday afternoon but I never received a call as promised. When I called to check on its status I spoke to Pablo, who informed my tile would now be in three days later, on Wednesday. I asked to speak with Mr. Tanner, since I had ordered it from him and wanted to confirm exactly when it would be in Wednesday so I could reschedule the installation. That's all I wanted. And that is when all hell broke loose. When I asked Mr. Tanner about my tile order, he first began lecturing me about truck deliveries and how he had no control over them, and how "I needed to understand" how things worked. I was rather taken aback, considering I just asked about the status of my tile. Then halfway through this lecture about the trucking industry, Mr. Tanner pauses, and says 'Oh, wait, your tile was delivered Saturday afternoon.' Not exactly sure if he was speaking to me or someone inside the store, I said, "So you have my tile there now?" To which he thundered: "Do you not understand English? What did I just say? What did I just say!? Don't you understand plain English?' Wow. Where did this come from? So again, calmly, I say, "Alright, so just so I'm clear, my tile IS there now, rather than coming in Wednesday?" To which Mr. Tanner responds: "Apparently you don't understand English. I can't talk to you. What about this don't you get? I can't talk to someone who doesn't understand English," ...and then put me on hold. What? Hello? Pablo eventually picked up the phone and was nice enough to set up my delivery. At the end he (ironically) said, "You speak English fine. I thought he said you didn't speak English?" Let me clarify, Mr. Tanner. I do "understand" English. In fact, I hold two degrees in it, taught it at the university level, and have had careers as both a newspaper and magazine editor. More so, I understand how business is done and not done. You can be assured that I will use my 'understanding of English' to make sure everyone I know who may need tile will know exactly how you treat your customers - especially this customer who merely called to find out when their order would be delivered. We literally had tanner here for weeks! We had numerous rooms to tile and chose to do a few at a time.. I know this is not ideal for installers but they worked with us, their pricing is fair and very well explained! I had the absolute worst experience working with Tanner. My custom tiles were broken on two different occasions - the original order and the replacement order. Over 80% of the original tiles were broken, and when I tried to get them to help me, they scoffed and pushed responsibility off on themselves and onto the distributor, me and my contractor. They said he "needed to pull his bootstraps up" and cut around the broken tile. Not good enough! When I just got off the phone with the owner, he was defensive, didn't apologize or take responsibility for the poor customer service follow through, and said there were six other calls he needed to take as we were trying to come to a resolution. This sucks, and I'm inclined to write to the Better Business Bureau with a complaint. If you're starting a project that needs tile, don't go with these guys. My experience here was terrible! Jim Tanner is the most unprofessional, mean, angry man! I walked in and he was fine however every time I asked a question he became angry and frustrated. He yelled at me several times because of his low tolerance frustration! He certainly represents the company since his last name is Tanner. Furthermore, my order came in wrong. They ordered it again and it came in wrong again. I said I want to return one of the 4 tile styles I purchased since the one that came in wrong is supposed to match it from the same query. We used Tanner Materials about 6 1/2 years ago when we moved into our home and they did all of our flooring and we were very happy with the job. Because Tanner did a great job with our floors we decided to use them again for our kitchen for all new cabinets, granite and backsplash. We encountered numerous problems with our cabinets. The work was done at night - ugh. The cabinets were installed improperly and the crown molding was put on wrong. The job that was supposed to take a little more than a week took over a month. I was basically the project manager for the job, coordinating the cabinets and the backsplash. The only thing that went right was the countertops. Even Mike Tanner stated to us he has never had a job that had gone so wrong. My husband and I talked to Mike Tanner and withheld $300 payment out of over $11000 job due to all the problems we encountered. Mike again agreed with us but needed to talk with his father Jim Tanner, the owner. About 2 to 3 weeks later, out of nowhere, I received a call from Jim Tanner, the owner, and was screamed and yelled at that I was threatening his son and his company. Jim Tanner than proceeded that he was going to have me arrested by the police and that he was suing me and it would cost me more than $300 in lawyer fees. Jim Tanner never gave me the chance to speak. My communication with Mike Tanner, Jim Tanner's son was nothing but professional (I have the emails to prove it). Had a very large job completed by this company with wood inside and tile outside over 3000 sq ft of materials. The work performed was a nightmare from the beginning. The material was not delivered when it was supposed to be, the workers didn't show up when they said they would, and when they did only one or two would show, stay for a short bit and leave. The demo of the old material resulted in damage to other items. The cuts of the wood materials was poorly done that it had to be repeated several times. The floor wasn't always leveled and again had to be redone. Items verbally promised with work quality wasn't completed. The tile work outside had to be redone multiple times as water wouldn't drain properly off of it. Tried to work with the owners and foreman multiple times for all of the problems with little to no resolve. Family business or not you don't bully and try to intimidate people when you do a poor service. If you choose to use them, do so at your own risk. read more

I was in their showroom yesteray and not one person said hello then I heard a woman yelling at a coworker about how she was to busy and no she could not do what they were asking her to do. I was in the showroom for 15 minutes there was one other customer there speaking with a representative but there were two other employees neither of which even asked if they could help or said hello during time. After I left without anyone even acknowledging I was there I called and reached the woman that had benn yelling at her coworker when I told her I was very dissapointed about my visit she told me that they were all family (i guess its ok to yell at your family when you have customers in your showroom? I think not I think it makes it even more appalling). When I told her about my visit she simply said "Are you done?" I said yes thank you and I hope in todays economy that you have so much business you can afford to be rude to your customers not even knowing if they are a $100 job or $100,000 remodel. I recently had tile work done by Tanner Material. I scheduled the install for Monday/Tuesday and took the time of work not wanting people in my house all day I didn't know. They outsourced the install to another company. The installers came on Monday and said they would be back on Tuesday morning. They never showed up. Apparently the owner didn't order enough of the thin tile and too much of the wide tile so instead of someone informing me, they just didn't show up. I wasted a day off and had to take Wednesday off. The installers had to pull up some carpet were the tile met the carpet and they said the owner would have someone come out and tack it back down. I scheduled that the following week. Sat waiting for over an hour for no one to show up. Scheduled the carpet to get tacked back down again and no one showed up. I called Mike Tanner to complain. On this phone call I was told the carpet being tacked back down wasn't part of my contract and that the carpet guy came about ten minutes late and that I must have left. Ridiculous! I had to convince him to send the carpet guy again. The guy called me 45 minutes after my appointment to tell me he can't find my house. Weird since he supposedly was already there and I had left. The owner didn't seem to care one bit about all my wasted time and leaving my carpet pulled up for three weeks. Easily the worst experience I have had in my 16 years of being a home owner. read more

We dealt with Tanner Materials during the months of April-May, 2013. In the beginning, we talked with Mr. "Daddy" Jim Tanner regarding the remodel of our kitchen. I noticed right away that he didn't respect women. I didn't appreciate it when he talked down to me. We noticed that his son, Mike Tanner seemed to be a little more respectful, so we decided to work with him. Well, Mike seemed to be very helpful, and impressed us with his professionalism. He told us that if we have any issues with the final purchase, "inspect the cabinets, and bring back anything that's flawed, and we will just switch it out with a new one." So, taking him at his word, we gave him over $5,400.00. Since he wanted over $400 to deliver the cabinets to our 2nd home just northwest of Tucson, we picked up our cabinets at their store. They loaded up our cabinets in an enclosed tandem-axel horse trailer in vwhich we have transported furniture and televisions in the past with absolutely no problems. It is much smoother riding than Tanner's bob-tail truck because of the tandem axels. Of course Daddy Jim Tanner made a big issue over the horse trailer stating that it would tear the cabinets all to pieces. Before leaving their yard, we noticed that the shelves for the corner wall cabinet were scratched up. We took the shelves into the store and we were told that they would order new shelves. After unpacking the cabinets, we discovered issues with the following: 1) the mitered joints were not joined properly on the front of a small drawer-front frame, 2) we received the wrong size and not enough crown molding, 3) the outer sides of the tall built-in oven cabinet had a bad finish (overspray), 4) Mike initially forgot to order the light-rail for under the wall cabinets therefore asking us for more money!, 5) we didn't receive the partition shelf between the microwave oven and built-in oven, 6) we didn't receive the putty stick. When we emailed Mike Tanner regarding these issues, he told us that wouldn't be a problem and he would order replacements. A few days later, we received an email stating that the replacements were ready for us to pick up. When we arrived at the store, Mike was not there, and the office help couldn't find half of our materials. They contacted Mike by phone, and reported to us that he was on his way in to the office and would arrive within 20 minutes ... wrong, we had to wait for at least one hour. When he arrived, he was very irritable, and took it out on us. He refused to discuss the issues, and even blew up at his office employees because they couldn't find our materials. His demeanor was no longer professional, and he absolutely flipped out and ordered us to leave the property. He even threatened to call the police to have us physically removed. We were in complete disbelief! Not knowing what to do, we walked outside and were followed by one of his office employees who apologized and tried to make amends by getting some of the materials that he was able to find. After waiting at least a week for Mike to compose himself, we contacted Daddy Jim Tanner, explained what had happened (thinking he would make things right), and he asked which cabinets had we ordered. I told him that he should still have a record of it in his computer, and he told me, "I have other calls to answer. Call me back when you get that information together." And he slammed the phone down. We don't advise anyone to waste their time and money at Tanner Materials. As one of the previous reviews stated, "this company is a bunch of liars, be it Jim Tanner or the son Mike Tanner." We discovered that once they get your money, they will show their true colors, and their integrity and professionalism go down the tubes. We too don't know how they manage to stay in business. We will have to make due with what we were given, but it sure doesn't look like anything like $5,400.00's worth. read more
