Tanner Park, is an off leash dog park that runs through the nature preserve. I saw there was an off shoot trail that was on dirt so I started following it. Only because I don't like walking on pavement. Lots, and lots of bikers as well as runners with their dogs. Trail wraps down towards the pond where all the dogs are wading in. Lots of dogs, and one dog fight due to owners having their dogs off leash. I got splattered with water when this big furry dog came out of the pond. I kept walking and finally made it to the trail where the nature trail begins, no dogs allowed. Gravel trail the rest of the way back to the parking lot. Lots and lots of poop bags on this section of the trail. DOG OWNERS PUT YOUR POOP BAGS IN THE PROVIDED GARBAGE CANS. This is the stinky part of the trail. I saw some dog throwing up, and dog poop not bagged. I'm glad I started on the other side of this trail. Shout out to Salt Lake County for having the bathrooms open and clean.

A trail with great Autumn colors for a great photo opp

This is a great park the unfortunate setback about this park is it's an off leash park. I'm not sure if it's even or odd days but everyone slowed their dogs to just like wild animals as if it's a no responsibility area to recall their dogs as I'm walking my dog which is a service animal that does NOT work while at a park. I just don't appreciate people not paying attention to their dogs and allowing them to cause chaos, hence the reason for a 2 star rating. There were several opportunities for great photo ops.

The water area was so fun

We had THE BEST day at Tanner Park. I love that it's not just a standard park with a field, it's a little hike/ walk for both dogs and people. I love that it's fenced and off leash so the dogs can explore but stay close. The two water areas were so fun for the dogs. Everyone we met was nice and friendly and kept their dogs contained if they were more nervous/ aggressive. It was also very clean and seemed like everyone cleans up after their dogs. Highly recommend! I wish I lived closer so we could come all the time.

I was visitor if Utah and could not find a better place to take the dogs!! I mow want to move to Utah because of how great this park is, it really gave you a sense of how cool salt lake is and what Utah has to offer

Wild flowers in May. Lots of streams so your dog will get wet if you let him

Socialize your dog here! I keep mine on a leash since he will run away- not fenced. Water streams and paths through some trees. Every dog seemed friendly. Parking easy and walk at the end needed a little effort, other than that, I really like this place. It has a urine odor... for obvious reasons... but the place is close to my house and I go there for a quick jaunt. If I had 2-3 H, I'd probably hit Millcreek or cottonwood.

    Max in the water!

This spot is a fun easy little hike for dogs and kids. There are two water spots to let the dogs cool off. I did slip today through and skinned my hands and elbow! It is slick even without snow and ice. The water is really cold but still fun!

One of the few places in SLC that your dogs can play off leash. Great water access for dogs to play. Enjoyable, friendly place!

There are several paths you can take, most of them are pretty clearly marked but I could see how people could get lost if they venture off the path. The leaves in the fall were breathtaking with the sun sneaking through the trees as if to spotlight them on the world's stage. Yes, I wax poetic when it comes to nature. I can't help myself. Go see for yourself and you'll do the same. Along with the spectacular array of colors, there's a nice rope swing that someone put up for people to enjoy (thank you to whomever did that!) and a few random forts made out of fallen trees and branches. My inner nine year old was loving every moment of it! The map showed us that we were near a cave, but we struggled to find it. We eventually found one (I think?) but the entrance was cemented over. Maybe there were others, but we gave up and vowed to return again to find them.

Yuck. - It's a 10-20min walk from parking to the water. Coarse sand. May wanna wear shoes. Little rocks will sneak into your sandals. - The sight of dead birds and millions of flies, dead and alive, throughout the beach and the stench of what I thought was ubiquitous decomposed bison dung but likely was actually the sulfurous odor of detritus (still revolting though) discouraged me from fulfilling the bucket list goal I came here for: to prove the rumor that the human body really is unsinkable in the hypersaline water of the Great Salt Lake. I couldn't bring myself to lie down. Only let the water up to my calves. Ain't no way I'm risking full skin infection within the 1st day of my vacation. Still had 7 days to go. Begrudgingly, I simply took a picture from where I stood, then slowly backed away from the omnipresent death around me. . On my way driving out I asked the lady at the entrance booth about the water quality. She said the sight of those many flies and the dead animals is normal around the super salty water and that it's still safe to float in it. She may be right (as the Internet also agrees), but I couldn't bring myself to go through with it, especially since there weren't many other people there doing the same thing to help me feel reassured. + Glad the showers by the parking lot are fully functional though. + And a hose next to the restrooms next to the showers. . Just gotta bring your own soap. + Sources say pronghorns live on this island. * Fun fact: Pronghorns are the 2nd fastest land animal on Earth, just after the cheetah! - Didn't see any pronghorns or bison during my visit though. Granted, I didn't visit as far deep in as Fielding Garr Ranch. You might have better luck. . $15/car. A bit expensive for me since as you can see, my experience came up short. And as it's a state park, it's not covered by the $80 America the Beautiful annual pass. . Only a few people were at this State Park when I visited early Saturday evening. - VC still under maintenance.
