Tanner was our first stop on our winery tour in downtown Murphys. The first thing that strikes you about walking in is the coziness of the place. They have some comfortable chairs that you can sit at or some other seating by the bar or against the window. There is a variety of wines to taste, but they concentrate heavily on the reds here. I have a slight preference for white wines myself, so they were able to substitute some of the red-tasting wines for white, but the person pouring our tasters couldn't really give me any meaningful information about the whites I was tasting since it wasn't her personal preference. Still, we ended up buying two bottles - 1 of their Viognier and 1 of Angelo's Red to take place with us. For each bottle you buy, a taste fee is waived, so it ends up being a good deal. They can also hold the bottles for you as you finish out your tasting tour and you can come back and pick it up before close. read more

We were walking at the St Pats celebration and stopped in for wine tasting. Was $15 for 4 samples. There was barely enough wine in the glass to ascertain the quality. They poured the equivalent of maybe two table spoons of wine. When we asked why they where so small pours, she smiled and walked away. read more

Came here on recommendation of another Murphys winery after we said we liked bold reds. It did not disappoint. We were fortunate to be served by Annie Tanner and learned her family and her husband's settled in Murphy's in the 1800s. Wow! I am enjoying the Med Red tonight with BBQ chicken and it is amazing. Murphys has quickly become one of my favorite places to wine taste. I'm apprehensive to spread the word as I hate to have it become heavily touristed. On my two day wine taste trip, my group & I stopped into Tanner. Walking in you are greeted by a lovely tasting room with a large copper topped wine bar. Our host was a very sweet woman (whom I forget her name) that informed us of Tanners rich history in winemaking. It was such a treat to find out that the Tanner family began their winemaking during the mid 1800's. As we delighted in the extensive history explained to us, we were also delighted by their wines. I enjoyed both their red & white wines. Their sparkling wine & Viognier were standouts for me. Both perfect for the hot day that we were tasting. For reds, the Petite Verdot & Barbera were the winners. I can't say that all of their reds won me over, but these two hit the mark. Truly a lovely tasting room rich in family history. We loved this place and kept going back while we were on our girls trip. Luckily my friend is a member and members taste for free and can bring up to 3 people with them. The ladies there do such a good job keeping engaged with each of the parties they have and managing reservations at the same time. The sparkling wines were our favorite on the first visit and then loved a few of the reds on our second visit. Both times the ladies helping us were so so helpful and fun! Will definitely be back and would recommend to anyone making the trip to Murphys. Would recommend reservations too to make sure you can get in. read more

I tried their $5 wine tasting flight of red and white wines. The rose was refreshing. I enjoyed their moscato as well. It wasn't too sweet and was just right. Their Red wines were perfectly balanced and not overpowering. I got a bottle of their rose, $20. Overall their wine bottles ranged between $20-$45. The service here was impeccable. I had an amazing time, our server was great. They also had some bread and olive oil for tasting. You had two options for style of tasting, basically the fancier list or not as fancy list. Our group of three split, two of us did the non fancy one. There are several wines that are delicious. The one thing i would prefer is there having seats. We were at a standing table which was fine but we were there for a long while so I would have been okay with have a seat to relax in. My friends even joined the wine club. This is now one of the three places I will have to stop every time I am in Murphy. Spent a great day tasting wine in Murphys and went into Tanner Vineyards from a recommendation from a friend...we were not disappointed. First of all, Mary Tanner was not only friendly, but warm and very gracious to our tasting party....thanks Mary! Now onto drinking...coming from the wine region, we were pleasantly surprised at the wine tasting cost...quite a bargain. White flight was highlighted by their Viognier while the red was brilliant with their Cab. But the sleeper of the day came in the form of their delicious T Brut and T Rosé Sparkling Wines...nothing spoke louder about summertime wines than these beauties! We've been going to Murphy's on Halloween Party Weekend for several years now, and have had a blast. Lots of people dress up, including the people behind the wine tasting bars. This year however, my sisters and I were dressed up, and went into Tanner Vineyards, and the barista whispered to me "Why are you dressed up..the witch walk was last weekend..." Our large group on a tasting weekend stopped in the Tanner tasting room on a friends recommendation and were very glad that we did. Tasting room staff was very helpful and explained each pour very well. I liked the Mourvedre, not something you find often. This is a small and charming wine tasting room - located on the corner across from the Murphy's Hotel. They have a nice bar and lots of large, vintage photographs of the winery founders and family members. The lady who was behind the bar during my visit told us a little about the history of the winery and explained the names behind their wines, which reflected the names of family members/founders or were in honor of family members/founders. They charge $5 for a short flight of wines which includes whites, a rose, a sparkling and some reds. I chose to purchase a bottle of their 2012 Doux Rose which is a slightly sweet rose. Much like other tasting rooms, your tasting fee goes towards a bottle if you make a purchase. Tanner has some nice wines, this is a great tasting room - four stars! read more

When it comes to tasting for me, it's all about the atmosphere and the experience. This place was much less trendy and stylish than a few of the other places we went to but the experience was so much better. The gal serving was so friendly and knowledgable, and took the time to tell us about the wine and the history of the winery, etc. A very relaxed and enjoyable experience. And great wine! read more
