After much consideration we decided to keep the original flooring, and needed to fine a true expert at doing significant floor repairs, as well as sanding and staining. Our GC recommended we go with Tan's Floor Service, and we're SO GLAD we did!!! Tony and his team are incredibly kind and competent. A few areas in particular that stood out to us: 1. Repairs were done beautifully. an 1870 house has a lot of different types of floors from 150 years of repairs... Tony's team matched the flooring very well (super thoughtful in the wood they chose). 2. Midway through the project, we decided we needed to replace the stairs. A lot of them were cracking, and moving in with two kids we decided now was the time to do it. Tony's team expertly replaced the stairs, including putting in the crown molding. 3. The sanding and staining was done much more thoroughly than wha we experienced with a floor crew we used in our current home. We recommend Tony and his team very highly! My floors sound and look horrible. Crooked transitions, unlevel floors, planks buckling in places, installed over gap in subfloor so now my floors bounce in one spot. Pressures you to sign contract. We had our old flooring (mixed hardwood and tile) ripped out and replaced on the entire upper level of our raised ranch, plus the entry way stairs. Initially they were great to work with, very communicative and worked with our time frame. Unfortunately, it's looking like we will need to have it redone completely. A year in, we had cracking, splitting, separating of boards. Some spots are sinking and there are spots where the sealant pooled/color is blotchy. We were told let it sit for a year "it's settling," it's been 2 years and we have now received no communication back despite several attempts on our end regarding the terrible floors we have been left with. read more

I recently used Tan's Floor Service to refinish my first floor hardwood floors. I was able to book the week I needed to get it done and they showed up on time and were extremely professional. Their experience showed as they ad to deal with several challenging spots on the floor that were the result of owning two large dogs. Found Tan's service thru Home Advisor. On the estimate day they showed up 2 hrs late without calling (I called them after an hour). I was then told I would receive the estimate within 3 days. On the forth day I called and received a call back stating they were too busy to send my estimate to me. Then stated I would receive it by that evening. Here is my story - we purchased an 1890 condo in Back Bay which had issues with the wood floors: mismatched flooring, 4 year old flooring that flexed to the point where my foot sank a level, was not leveled with the older floor. They leveled the area, wove new floor with the older flooring, sanded, stained, and finished the floors. It is impossible to tell the old from the new. This required and enormous amount of custom cutting because the older floor, that we wanted to preserve, had varied width. Their expertise, skill, responsible, efficient, and honest work resulted in wood floors that add integrity and style to the condo. They love their work and provide an excellent service.
