My boyfriend's brother and I have been trying to look for a good boba place in Raleigh that has a good variety of drinks at a good quality. This is the first time that he's genuinely liked a boba place in Raleigh and thought the drinks were good. We're spoiled by the sheer number of good boba cafes in OC, CA. I got the black sugar hojicha and added crème brûlée to mine. I think the crème brûlée made it a bit too sweet at first (until I cleaned up the crème brûlée and there was just hojicha left), but the drink itself was solid. My boyfriend's brother got the mango slushie and it was bomb! It's the first time I've 100% loved a fruit slushie at a boba place, from taste to texture. It was smooth, sweet, and had such a strong taste of mango that it didn't feel watered down or artificial. He didn't realize it had cheese foam and wasn't sure how he felt about it (he just doesn't like cheese foam as a concept), but I thought it was perfect. In addition to quality drinks, I loved the cafe's decorations! They were so simple but very aesthetically appealing, and there were plenty of indoor seats. The staff was very friendly and kind, and worked fast. The drinks are a bit pricey but for the quality and quantity, it wasn't too bad (my drink was $7.58 total and was a 24oz drink). My only issue was with getting there because we had to make about a 270-degree angle turn in a minivan to get onto the street and park there, but that's not the business's fault -- just be warned if you're trying to drop by LOL Overall, this is a great boba and will probably be our go-to place whenever we go on this annual east coast vacation! read more

Love this new boba place in Raleigh! The interior is really cute & well thought out, and everything was really clean. The tables weren't sticky at all, which sometimes happens in boba shops. The owner there was really nice - he was attentive and I could tell he was putting a lot of work and detail into the drink. The cups are adorable too! Hawthorn was my favorite candy growing up, and this is the first place I've seen with a hawthorn flavored drink. I got it 25% sweet, which was perfect for me. Will def be back!! read more

Both of our drinks met our expectations when it came to the sweetness level, which we appreciated. The Brulee Milk Tea was made with heavy cream added to the milk tea, which provided a richer component to the drink. The Black Boba Milk Tea was classic and did not disappoint us. The decor is very eye catching when you first walk into the shop. It wasn't busy when we went which was nice ave quiet. The drinks in the photo are jasmine matcha latte, mango pamelo and strawberry milk. They were all delicious and refreshing to drink. This 5 star review is partly solely for the fact that they have Mochi topping for their drinks, or at least for a selected number of drinks. The only other time I've tried Mochi in a boba drink was by The Alley for a limited time strawberry drink they had, and I've been wanting Mochi in my boba drink for so long now!! This is the only place I've found that does it. So if you're familiar with Mochi pieces in general, in a drink they make it more drinkable and less thick, so that when you drink through the straw it comes up as "strings" of Mochi. The drink I got was their strawberry milk but I'm not a fan of milk so I changed it for coconut milk. I've tried it with oat milk but coconut is better IMO. I would recommend getting it with agar boba which is crunchy for some contrast to the Mochi. The rooibos milk tea is very interesting, I would probably not get it again but it might not be something I'm used to. I wish their cute cups came in the bigger size, because that's originally why I went. But I will return for the Mochi drinks anyway! read more

What a cute spot! We parked on the street and walked into the bright blue store. I got the coffee jelly milk tea with cheese foam half sweet and my partner got passionfruit mango fruit tea which comes with little mango pieces. The coffee jelly had a rich depth of flavor and milk tea was milk-y and tea-y. He liked the passionfruit base but the mango pieces were a bit stringy for our liking- I think because it was real mango instead of mango jelly. I'd like if they had more floral tea options but they had a good variety like Oreo tea and coconut jelly tea. Tao has been open 2 weeks now and will continue having their soft opening (BOGO 50% off) for a few more weeks. The owner was helpful and kind, and the inside was bright with plenty of seating. Mind you you these customers didn't advance forward when I stepped aside earlier. I was visiting the area and I saw all of the great reviews about Tao so I drove down for a visit. It was about four or five staff members busily moving around. I presumed that they were slammed, which is completely understandable. What is not understandable is that after 10 minutes of waiting at the counter to be spoken to, the only interaction I had with staff was one person telling me that they weren't taking orders for 20 minutes. She was smiling, so at least she was polite, right? Lol As a former restaurant manager myself, I'm of the mindset that you don't turn down business...unless you don't want their business ever again. Because that's a possibility. I can see if they said it would be a 20 minute wait but to just say that there's no orders being taken at all show that Tao is comfortable with their current clientele and doesn't care to grow it any further. There was a man and his daughter behind me so I'm assuming that if I was denied service, that it was consistent across the board. If not, that speaks to an even bigger issue of selective denial of service. Waiting 10 minutes to just be told that you will not be able to get your order taken is terrible service. The place was so pretty. The ambience is outstanding this spot is so clean and quiet. The customer service was great. The drink ingredients tasted quite natural compared to many other well known boba spots I've been too. I got the large strawberry matcha latte and the strawberry purée you could taste like actual fresh strawberries which I loved it didn't taste like plain old artificial strawberry syrup. If your a matcha fan like me you should definitely try it!! The matcha and milk ratio was great as well and was too my liking.
