Just waiting around for nothing when we were already shuttled to plane (already delayed)
    Eric F.

Just not worth it. Bought flight(s. I guess there weren't one way direct flights) to Florence from NYC with one connection in Lisbon and awful. Both flights were delayed for questionable/no real reasons for an hour plus each. For some reason, they also operate many flights not even from the gate so you have to shuttle from walking out the gate to where the plane actually is and that takes forever on top of the no question delay that's bound to happen (or worse, cancel). Do yourself a favor and just book any other airline/flights and save yourself the headach

Fabulously refreshing gin and tonic, squash soup and a cappuccino!

They deserve a zero. Flew business. Gate agent and flight attendants are rude. I guess they don't believe in customer service.

Comfortable flight to Lisbon…read more TAP literally provided us with a smooth transport by air to Portugal. This is a Star Alliance airline that offers direct flights to their central hub in Lisbon. Among our choice between TAP and AC, they came out on top for value of the flights. The planes were relatively new Airbus A330neo with decent entertainment and comfort. The highlight was the in-flight service. The cabin crew were consistently friendly and hospitable. For long haul, meals were served shortly after takeoff and a small breakfast was also served closer to landing in the 7-hour flight from Toronto. Premium meals were surprisingly flavourful created by local renowned chefs. Complimentary wine was served and we enjoyed the sweetest orange juice. Seafood stew included mussel, shrimp, scallop, served along with a buttery crab & shrimp salad starter. On the return flight, meagre fish fillet was flakey elevated by the sweet potato purée and the codfish salad starter was equally refreshing. The desserts featured a traditional trilogy of ice cream, fruit and cheese along with espresso and dark chocolate. Portuguese fruits tasted so ripe being sun-kissed in the region. We did carry-on only and avoided any potential with luggage issues that has been a complaint. I was initially asked to drop in the carry-on while printing the boarding pass. Everything was quite smooth otherwise. One drawback is the frequent bus gate which often took a while to depart. Skip it or hit it? We will consider TAP again if we fly to Portugal due to the good service and value.

We stopped in Lisbon on our way from the Azores to Madrid. We had to get our luggage and re check in and go through security because we switched airlines (standard)...HOWEVER there was ONE ticket counter open with more than 25 people in line. When we finally did get up to the counter (close to an hour later) we were told that our seats were not confirmed (despite what our confirmation said) and they had over booked the flight. They gave us standby tickets and told us to wait at the gate to see if we could get on. Half of our party was able to get on the flight the other half was not. The next flight available was in 5 hours. After waiting at that gate for 2 hours they gave us a voucher to get 125 Euro back, oh but you can't redeem it here because this is not a hub airport. Ok now we will let you go to the Lounge to wait for your next flight, but wait...your luggage that we made you check, is at baggage claim...now... So you have to go pick it up, but one more catch...we won't take it back for the next flight until 2 hours before the flight. So you have 2 options, let your luggage go around the carousel for 3 hours while you wait in the lounge, or leave and get your bags so they don't get stolen but we won't let you re check in for 3 hours. TOTALLY unacceptable. You don't have a system to forward our luggage to our next flight since YOU overbooked? No instead make us leave the airport and do the entire process again while waiting for 3 hours with our bags outside. Will never fly with them again.

And the layout of all the restaurants and shops is like a mall. Thankfully all the signs have an English translation underneath, which was so helpful. The majority of the employees really only speak Portuguese though. Some speak Spanish, but not many will speak English. So if you need assistance either finding the right way to go, or regarding your luggage, it will be tough to find someone who can converse without a translator. Except of course for the customs agents, they are always at least quadrilingual. There is only one area for baggage claim, so you just need to follow the signs. Although before you get there, you'll need to first go through the new EES system, which will have long lines, although it does go by somewhat quickly. If you use the app Travel To Europe, you can answer all the questions ahead of time. Although you will still need to go to the customs booth to have your photo and right hand fingerprints taken. This is now just an added security feature required for anyone visiting Europe. This new EES system was just implemented on April 9th, 2026, and in the first month, there were insane delays resulting in travelers missing their connecting flights, but they are currently allowing those with children, and with any disabled to bypass this and go straight to the custom agents. Once you go through that, then you can head to baggage claim. So you definitely should use the restroom right when you exit the plane, cuz it might be an hour or more 'til you can again. Btw you won't know which carousal has your bags until you get there. There will be screens at each one showing the different flights. Some carousels will hold multiple flights bags, and you just need to walk around the find the right one.

I almost gave this 0 stars or 1 star, but I couldn't get myself to do it. For such a beautiful…read morecountry, it's a shame that the airport gives such a bad first impression of the country. Sadly, with the new EES system taking effect in Lisbon, it's made the notoriously long immigration queues even worse and almost downright embarrassing. People have seen the articles of travelers missing flights. It's not good. Anyhow, I'll break this down based on my experience arriving and departing: Arrivals: First off, this is the oddest way I've ever arrived into a European nation, much less an international country. I actually exited out into the non-Schengen N gates. This is the weirdest thing because you're now commingled with all the people leaving Portugal. I've never seen that. Also, these waiting areas are CROWDED with people departing. So navigating through this doesn't really help. The second step is the one the EU wants to instill, EES. In theory, you're supposed to scan your passport at one of the 30 something kiosks that are there. Unfortunately, a handful of those kiosks don't work and my passport (which has a chip) didn't both scanning. So we were forced to go into the manual line. That line in itself took way more than 90 mins to go through. Only 2 booths open in the AM for non-EU passport holders, which was brutal. It was super slow and a very confusing process with no staff to guide anyone. I heard that they moved everyone to the manual process after we departed, but still brutal. We finally exited and got scared seeing the brutally long line in the post-security duty free area for passport control. We knew that we'd be in for a journey on our return. Welp. Once we got to baggage claim, all of our bags were already lined up because we were waiting nearly 2 hours to exit immigration. Thankfully, the metro station wasn't far away from the airport so we exited off to our further travels. Departures: Because of our horrific arrival experience, we got to the airport super early (like 4 hours early) to be safe just in case. To add injury to insult, we found out on our Uber to the airport that the flight was delayed almost 2 hours because the incoming aircraft was reaching late (United had some silly sink issue on their Dreamliners smh). But anyhow, luckily my fiancée and I did a divide and conquer approach when we got to the airport. She went through security to deal with the VAT and Customs part and I went to handle the bag drop. Problem with reaching super early is that bag drop doesn't open until 3 hours before the originally scheduled flight. But if there are horror stories of people waiting 3 hours to finish passport control, then you are in a lose-lose situation. I waited almost 45 mins or so until the United bag drop opened. That process was quick once opened. My fiancée got thru her security in like 15 minutes. Problem was the VAT refund kiosks and customs lines were brutally long. So once I got through my part of the exercise, I had to wait for her to get through the VAT refund process. Of course, instructions are never clear and thus travelers are mad at everyone and anyone in line. So that process in itself took around an hour or so. Good luck trying to enjoy any duty free, food, shopping, or non-Tap Air lounges in the post security concourse if you're traveling outside the EU. You'll need to immediately wait in the very long line for passport control. I think we spent around 75 mins in this line too. They moved everyone to manual processing and thankfully there were more officers this time around. The line was moving after a certain point and that process became simple once we got close to the front of the line. But still brutally long. Once you are in the N gates, you realize this is the neglected wing of Terminal 1. Just a small duty free section (with limited selection) and a few shops and cafes which get quite congested because of all the travelers waiting here. Also, this is an aging wing clearly because it's super narrow and cannot handle all the international travelers heading home on the wide body jets. Oh and if you actually want to find a seat near your gate, good luck. I guess they want you to sit before passport control, which is ironic because..... of the long lines. Such an oxymoron. Note that if you do try to sit near the gate, they will eventually kick you out of that section before boarding. So all in all, even though we got to the airport nearly 6 hours early, we probably still only had about 2 hours of wiggle room at best, which meant that the typical 3 hours of room is NOT enough. This is embarrassing. Oh, we ended up having to take a bus to our plane instead of the standard gate. Wasn't just us either. That's a bit embarrassing too. Summary: This airport CANNOT handle the volume of international travelers it receives on a daily basis. I know Lisbon is slated for a new airport next decade, but changes need to happen sooner rather than later.
