The best food. The price is a little high but the food is wonderful. I will be visiting the place soon.

And as the craft beer industry is very noticeable in it's shrinkage in size from the past year or so distilleries, meaderies and wineries may be something we will need to explore more frequently as well. Hidden Legend was a winery or meadery that I haven't tried before and I was instantly drawn in to it. Discovering new places to me is always exciting and keeps thing interesting for me. For Hidden Legend, Steve and I had their Apple Mead Cyser which was an apple mead as indicated in the title and in flavor it had a very noticeable presence of that fruit. It was almost like a cider as we kept it chilled like a dry cider but had the thickness of a mead which put a fun spin to the flavor profile. And of course the presence of honey was detected also like you should expect with a mead giving this particular mead a pleasant and natural sweetness. A very nice change of pace was achieved here and feel like a revisit of their other mead options should be in order.

Full disclosure - we did not visit. I did not plan ahead - so please do so! They are only open on…read moreweekends by appointment. Seppi (owns an amazing nearby deli) guided us to the Super One nearby where they carry the Montana honey mead. It was such a treat! Honeysuckle and thyme notes. Perfectly pairs with Seppi's meat and cheese box for a picnic at nearby Lake Como.

However, it was a Saturday, Father's Day weekend, busy in the village and absolutely dead at the winery. I know why. The lady, she never introduced herself, came over agitated at the interuption of whatever she was doing in her house. The tasting room is very nice but she never asked us to have a seat and relax as that was clearly what she was hoping to avoid. We stood for our 4 wine, 3 minutes tasting. No small talk, no explanation of the wines, nada. I was extremely uncomfortable, it was weird. Against my best desires, the Cab and Merlot were good, The Reisling was good as well. I really can't remember what the fourth white wine was, but, and this just slipped out in the awkward silence of the tasting room, but I actually said "It certainly tastes better than it smells." Well it did! I'm not a wine afficianado but it had a metalic smell. Anyway, we bought 2 bottles of wine, like I said the Cab and the Reisling were good and bolted for the door. $18 for the Cab, and $14 for the Reisling. The whole experience last 5 minutes, about 5 minutes shorter than the drive up the main road to get there. EEEEEEEEk. If you want to try the wine, they sell it in town. But frankly, its good, but not great. And there are much better wines for $18. P.S., they import their grapes from Washington State.

In addition to knowing all things (and i do mean all) about the local birds, including their sounds and habitats, she could also share information perfectly about the bison, the antelopes (that we saw that day) and the native grizzlies. The local donuts were amazing as well as our lunch out with some local Montana fare. All in all a superb day, chock full of information that will have your feeling like an expert too! Don't miss this opportunity!

Our focus was photography, and our route did not disappoint on that score. We also stopped for fresh baked goods and coffee on our way out of Missoula which made the ride that much more pleasant. We are generally outdoor people but we chose to use a tour company because we were traveling with a baby and didn't know how to find routes that would be child friendly and not overly demanding. We would definitely recommend Wenfei's guiding services and have referred several friends to her Big Sky Safaris for Montana travel. In particular her being a biologist makes an outstanding enhancement to hiking - we are not very knowledgeable about birds and animal droppings, and Wenfei pointed out all sorts of interesting things for us as well as small details worth photographing that we wouldn't have noticed on our own. Wenfei made us very comfortable, gave us excellent gear advice, and spared us many hours of poring over maps to identify good areas to visit. She also was really knowledgeable about the local plants and birds during our early autumn MT trip. This was a great splurge during our MT trip and one we'd do again in a heart beat.
