Highly Suggest! We snagged a reservation a week and a half ago and are certain this is our favorite restaurant in Porto. During our stay, we tried many, but this was by far the best. The service was perfect, we were accepted as soon as they opened (Which is when we had our reservation), and we had a bottle of wine shortly after (which ended up being our favorite of our trip overall). Had this restaurant recommended from a local, and what a nice place. Just located next to the São Bento Railway Station not far from the busy tourist area - this restaurant is a pearl. Having tried quite a few restaurants in Porto, this one seems very authentic. We were placed at 1st floor - decorated in a somewhat hipster style - but very tasteful and almost like you were home by the owner. We ordered 2-3 dishes each to share - and could empty our plates. The sizes for the portions are hughes - so for a reasonable price you'll be filled with tasty and colourful food. The staff is ever so kind and speak English fluently. My partner Mason and I had the most amazing meal we have ever had at this gem of a restaurant. From our initial greeting with the warm and lovely owner Isabel to the top notch service from we received from Ines through out our meal, every detail (and of course every bite) of our experience here was pure perfection. The only sad part was that our meal was on our last evening in Porto but we are already planning a return visit if for no other reason than to have this fine dining experience again. This place is off the charts outstanding! Everything is perfect from the "rustica" environment to the outstanding, friendly service. We recently went vegan and had no problem fulfilling our needs off the menu. Hummus, tapenade, bruschetta, green salad and the vegetarian wild rice main...one dish was better than the next. The kicker, however, was the brownie for dessert...I can only describe it as "an experience". I don't want to ruin it by describing it in detail but take my advice...DON'T MISS IT! Bravo! read more

Let's start with dessert! The Peanut Foam is hands-down the best dessert I've had in years - airy peanut creme foam with tiny caramel crystals and cocoa powder covering some "ice cream" that feels almost like a soaked cookie and packs an amazing salty-sweet punch. If that doesn't grab you, blame it on my poor writing, and order it anyway - you'll be so happy! I also love their tomato bruschetta (a thin spread of pesto beneath the tomatoes and sweet balsamic above - a tiny treat! And their potato tortilla - a generous slice of a potato-y torte that looks a little like quiche and tastes a lot like hash browns in egg yolk - decadent! And the mixed seafood pot - an outstanding bouillabaisse with a rich clear broth and, among many kinds of seafood, the most succulent razor and little round clams I've found outside Rhode Island. We came in for an early dinner and the owner was able to squeeze us in without a reservation. (Be aware that dinner plates are only served after 7pm, but the tapas are generous portions.) Every single thing we ordered was delicious: olive and cheese plate, vegetable cream soup, bruschetta, roastbeef, and the peanut dessert. The owner and staff are extremely accommodating. As good as it gets. Really. Nestled in a not so nice lttle section of a street but right in the center of the town, this place swarms with people. Lots of tourists and locals? at the same time. Perfect friendly service, and perfect food. Honestly, a little upset we were so full that day when we went because the food is beyond. really. First, as always nice wine, so cheap, crazyy. Then carpaccio tomato, perfect, divine. Then avocado toast and tuna, ouch so nice. then razor clams, even better and something else which i have forgotten. point being, everything is good, so well served. it gets quite big on the place, and service goes on perfectly. beware there s no room for you if you dont reserve in advance, this place is SO popular. Tapabento is great! The restaurant is very close to the central station, small but very comfy. We were there quite early and without reservation, so we luckily got a table. I would recommend to make a reservation though. Very friendly service staff there. The food was delicious, we tried different tapas and had desert, everything was absolutely great. We spent 8 days in Portugal, traveling from Tavira to Porto, and while we had some wonderful food along the way, this was hands down the best meal of our entire trip. Every dish was so well thought out, from texture to flavors, that I struggled to find any critique at all. Typically, I'm scolded at the table by others for pointing out ways each dish could be just a little better, but the balance of acid, sweet, and salty just left you wanting more after each and every bite. My only regret is that we didn't eat here our first night in Porto so that we could try their other restaurant, Tapabento Trinidade. The service, ohhhh the service.... I don't think I have had such wonderful people serve me food in my entire life. After being greeted by the most genuinely sweet woman in all of Portugal I am sure, we managed to find a seat at the bar after just a short wait. From there we were given the most wonderful recommendations on dishes as we asked for the favorites of our server. That said, I have a sneaking suspicion that you truly cannot go wrong, and each dish is just as good as every other. To cap off our visit, we were visited by the Chef, who thanked us for our compliments and proceeded to chat with us extensively about multiple dishes in more detail and answered every question we could throw his way! He was amazing and seemed genuinely humbled by our words of admiration. Words cannot describe what a wonderful way to spend our last night in Portugal this was, but please do yourself a favor, and visit Tapabento, you don't know what you're missing if you skip this. read more

This is a love letter of Shakespearean tragedy proportions. Tragic because I'd like my last meal on earth to be here, but chances are, I won't be in the vicinity when it happens. We visited the restaurant thrice over a period of 10 days, trying a total of 11 dishes. Every single one of them was good. Nothing was over fussy. Freshest seafood, top notch execution, plating that showcased the ingredients as they were meant to be eaten. Service was amazing. While the crew and owners constantly ran a full house, everyone was still warm and cheerful for the most part. You can tell when people take pride in their work and this lot most certainly did. I am not kidding with the five stars. My wife Phoebe and I found this amazing place on the internet during a recent visit to Porto. It is not something we would have stumbled into so we are deeply grateful to the folks who wrote reviews elsewhere which led us to this gem. The setting is perfect once in the door, the owner (Isabel) is gracious, warm and clearly committed to making this a wonderful experience. Ditto the rest of the staff who all seem to like each other and the fact that you came to their place. But it is the food that is so unforgettable. The first night we were there we both had the best meals we have ever had in any restaurant! And the prices were incredibly fair. The boyfriend and I stumbled upon this gem on our first night in Porto and it does not disappoint! The owner and servers are so sweet and friendly that I felt compelled to write my first Yelp review after using it as a reference for years. We came in around 8p on a Wednesday and by the time we left around 10p it was happening (as it should!). Great local ambience and so charming and romantic. We didn't have a reservation and got lucky they were able to accommodate us last minute. We live in New York and eat tapas often so we were excited to see what was here. We would only caveat that the portions are pretty healthy (they did warn us we may have ordered a bit much...) So we were only able to eat about half of everything we ordered but it was all superb! The service was amazing - they even asked if they food was not to our liking since we couldn't finish it all and checked in on whether we still wanted the rest of our order to come out (2 starters, 5 tapas). Wow the food is outstanding! It isn't terribly small plates (compared to tapas in the US near me anyway) which is good! But watch out if you're trying to eat lighter for dinner. We got the mussels to start. Wow! Really interesting wonderful flavor and they were huge! Then the melted provolone with tomatoes and peppers and spinach I think.. goooood! Very bad for you though lol basically a huge melted cheese dip. For the main (stuffed note already) Spanish steak with port wine sauce with grilled mushroom and banana chips. Perfect! This is a unique and brilliant restaurant! The food is wonderful! I would describe it as Portuguese, but with an adventurous twist. And they put a lot of effort into getting good raw ingredients, so everything tastes just that little bit better! The space is very nice, clean, high ceilings - in a word, homey. Not at all the kind of tight, damp cavern you may encounter around here. The staff... What is there to say? It's like being a welcome guest in somebody's home!! Yesterday we had a fantastic tapa dinner. Grilled peppers, grilled tomato (fabulous!), mushrooms, pasta negra, fish curry: all very nice. We also tasted a nice rose wine. The lady manager was very friendly and helpful - she speaks very good French and English. Our son ended with an ice cream while we had a nice port wine. And the best of all: we only had to pay 77euro for this nice evening and fantastic food. We can absolutely recommend this nice restaurant. read more

This was one of the best meals we have had traveling Europe. We tried three nights to get in - the first night they were fully booked, the second night they were closed, and the third night the lovey owner remembered us and made sure to get us a table. We were not disappointed. The fish soup was unbelievably good and the organic mushrooms were the best I've ever eaten. Then came the mussels... wow. They were incredible and I would have never thought to put fresh mint in a dish like that.
