We worked with Lisa, and while she is nice, she is not a good communicator. My husband and I had a session scheduled for 1:1 prenatal birth classes, and 5 minutes before the session, she messaged and said she wasn't coming because a client was in labor. Ok, that is fine. I understand that. We rescheduled for the next night. 15 min past the hour, I messaged her and asked if she was coming since she still wasn't at our apartment. She messaged back 45 min later, "No, not tonight." What! not tonight?? What does that even mean? I have never had a professional message me something with such a laissez-faire attitude. That may not seem like a big deal by rescheduling one appointment last minute and then not showing up to another. However, I would not want that from my doula. What if I was in labor and couldn't get in touch with her, or she just dropped the ball because she was tired from previous labor and didn't attend? I think it's important to communicate and even overly communicate with prenatal and especially clients later in their pregnancy. I want to be clear that we didn't hire Lisa as a doula for labor, only for prenatal sessions. However, we strongly considered hiring her as our labor doula and are very disappointed with this outcome. Also, my feedback for the prenatal 1:1 sessions is that they are not customized for your birth. We wanted to focus on when the baby comes home, and we did two x2 hour-long sessions and never touched on that. Lisa also moves slowly through the material. There is wasted time rather than moving through the material in a structured manner. I found myself getting frustrated by the amount of time we spent on side conversations rather than the material at hand. At times it felt awkward. I wish our experience with TBC was different. read more

Lisa was an invaluable support during the first few weeks of having a newborn. She was kind, helpful, and knowledgeable about every aspect of postpartum care. After a very difficult birth, she was exactly what we needed to gain our footing as new parents. She helped with breastfeeding, bonding, and took care of the baby so we could get a few extra hours of sleep. We will be forever grateful to Lisa! read more

After reading all the positive reviews I was very excited to have Lisa as my doula. We had a phone consultation during which I expressed that I am looking to have a natural unmedicated labor and needed a doula to support me if I start o doubt myself during labor. She was receptive and friendly. She explained that her package comes with 2 two hour consultations prior to delivery, unlimited phone/email support, and actual delivery regardless of how long it takes as well as couple hours after the delivery. Everything seemed to make sense, I signed the contract and gave a deposit of $850. We went ahead and scheduled the first consultation. The same day we had the consultation scheduled for I had an appointment with my midwife who informed me that the baby was breached and if it didn't flip I would have to be scheduled for a c-section. As you can imagine I was shocked that all my plans for a natural birth were about to go down the drain. When we met with Lisa and I expressed how frustrated I am, she said she understands my frustration, but there are still things I could do in order to help the baby flip. After this, I have been trying anything in my power (exercises, moxibustion, acupuncture, pool, chiropractor) but nothing would work. Given that one hires a doula for a moral support, I was expecting that Lisa would follow up with me at least once to see how I am doing and see if I need any support or advice. But no, I didn't hear from her up until it was a time to schedule the second appointment (it seems to me that all that she cared for is that she follows her contract and not helping me or guiding me when I needed the support). When she contacted me to schedule the second consultation, I said that I would like to see the midwife first to know if the baby flipped by any chance. The same day I got the confirmation from the midwife, I contacted Lisa to inform her that they have scheduled me for a c-section. I then asked her what would that mean in terms of her services as they would not allow doula in the OR. She said that she could add a postpartum visit, so I don't feel like I am paying for nothing. I explained that I expressed from the very beginning that I need a doula for support during labor, not after (and not to mention that 2 consultations and a postpartum visit for $1700 is unreasonable). I said that it makes no sense for me to utilize her services in this case, but I do understand that she invested 2 hours of her time during the first consultation, so it would only be fair that she is compensated for it. She agreed and said she will think of a reasonable amount and refund the rest. Time went by and I haven't heard from her nor did I receive a refund. Then I texted her after giving birth and she didn't reply. I called and she wouldn't answer. Then I attempted to call and text her again and again and she is ignoring me. It is very surprising and disappointing how she handled my situation. Instead of communicating and solving the issue she took the money and disappeared. She requests payment through Venmo, so conveniently enough you cannot dispute the transaction. She might be a great doula (based on other reviews, but you need to be aware if something goes wrong you will be on your own). It is unfortunate that she chose a short-term gain over ethics and reputation. read more

It took me a while to write this since Ive been busy with my newborn baby but I wanted to take the time to thank the tapestry team for all the support during my late pregnancy / labor. lisa and Marci were extremely supportive of my all natural labor / delivery choice and helped me stay on that path during early labor! My labor was about 25 hrs Marci showed up at my apartment extremely early in the morning and did not leave our side until we had our baby in my arms. As a new mom labor is THE most painful experience ever and at times i felt like giving up on my labor plans. Marci helped with my contraction pains and helped my husband survive the labor process/ stress. She went to the pharmacy for us and actively assisted us the entire day!! We were rejected from getting admitted multiple times from NYU Langone Hospital since i was not in "active" labor which was awful! We even had to check in to a hotel in Manhattan!! I had the pleasure of working with Kim and Lisa at Tapestry Birth. I met with both oh them and can say they are both incredibly knowledgeable and caring. I had interviewed many doulas prior to calling on TBC, and while I liked a lot of them as people, I wasnt sure they were going to bring much to the table. After meeting with Lisa and Kim I knew they would be able to help me carry out my birthing plan. It was Kim who ended up attending the birth of my daughter. I really mean it when I say I don't think I could have it done it without her. I relied so heavily on her. She helped me with my breathing, helped me with pain management, she helped me maneuver the hospital setting and all the people in the room. She gave me encouragement and love and I felt incredible safe with her. When it was all said and done, I couldnt believe that I hadnt know Kim for a majortity of my life. She felt like a life long friend. Both her and Lisa remained available to me and checked in on me post birth. It made me feel confident and like I had a good network of women I could rely on. I highly highly recommend choosing Tapestry for your doula team. We worked with Cara and Lisa, and it was Cara who was with us for the birth of our son. She was an absolutely invaluable part of our labour and delivery experience, which in the end was very positive and empowering, although an endurance test (36+ hours). Her support was unwavering and so reassuring - first of all from our preparatory chats and meetings before the day, and then from her calm advice and powerful words of encouragement during L&D itself, not to mention the very soothing and pain-relieving massage and pressure point techniques she used. She really went above and beyond the call of duty without hesitation, staying with us for more than 24 hours. My husband also found her presence incredibly helpful and reassuring, not least because it meant he could take a few quick naps! I don't know if we could have done it without her - or at least, it might have turned out very differently. Tthe Tapestry system of matching you with a team of 2 doulas is really smart - you meet with them both beforehand, so you won't end up with a back-up doula that you've never met, as is always a risk with a solo doula. In this modern world where we may not have our  friends and family around the corner, hiring an extra set of hands is of necessity. Lisa provides a service that I wish every mom knew about and used. Lisa's skills go above and beyond what a normal doula would provide. My husband and I hired her before delivery and used her as well postpartum. Lisa's experience is instrumental. She knew everything I would need for the "fourth trimester" which no one talks about for myself and baby. You think you know everything or that you are so prepared, but there is nothing like an experienced doula. Lisa helped us prepare for doctor appointments, she helped organize our house after moving and provided us with referrals for other services she thought we would need. Her list of contacts is endless, but most importantly they are professional and A+ referrals. Just like Lisa! Lisa was instrumental in my postpartum emotionally. Her gentle care for a new mom is exactly what you're looking for as well as for your husband. I've been meaning to post this review for you guys for ages now but with my son's first birthday coming up, I have been thinking a lot about the day he was born and the help we got from Lisa. I was on the fence about having a doula at first, and in the end, despite an induction and an epidural snafu (at the time my feelings were a little more strongly worded than "snafu") that led to a slightly unintended experience of natural childbirth, my son's birth was pretty straight forward and didn't require a lot of negotiating or translating of medical jargon. But the reassurance and support that our awesome doula Lisa (and Cara) gave us, not just in those 18 hours at the hospital but in the days and weeks leading up to it, were invaluable. It was Lisa's calm assurance that I would be able to deliver my behemoth baby and that I shouldn't stress about it in the meantime that helped get me through those final weeks in a mostly calm state. There are few times in your life when you are looking to someone for answers and assistance. Seldom does that someone(s) comes through for you so completely and even goes above and beyond what is expected. For my wife and I, that is what Cara and the women at the Tapestry Birth Collective did for us. From the moment we met them, these women put us at ease with our pregnancy and walked us through how our birth might and should go. They also communicated with us different options we would have during and right after birth and gave us perspective the birth process using their collective 100s of hours of birthing experience. The day of was a stressful experience, with two separate trips through the Holland tunnel. Cara was there from the early stages of labor, from North Jersey to Manhattan twice over, in the room for all stages of the birth until we were greeted by little man in the early morning hours. Throughout the experience, Cara was calm, knowledgeable and was quick to give advice and a massage to my wife. It was like having a member of the family there with us.
