The best tacos in East Texas, hands down! The service is pretty fast even during lunch hours. The Staff are always friendly.

#14 fried flautas were decent, salsa was so watered down and bland, re-fried beans were super light and transparent and tasted like sweet potato and don't even get me started with the rice. The first taste that came to me was box rice with chicken pollo powder bouillon, even so far as a bad saffron. Been coming here for years and since moving away 13 years ago I still make at least 1 stop there when I come back for a visit! Their beef is so flavorful and I could drink their green sauce even though it causes a 5 alarm fire in my mouth! Best tacos on the planet and still the best prices ever! We always come to This location of El Lugar at least 2x while back in Tyler. The food is simple and fast and delicious. My husband gets the #7 and smothers it in red and verde sauce. I change it up each time - working my way through the menu. Love that you can have so much choices, such as type of meat or flour vs corn. Only item I'd didn't enjoy as much as others was the cheese only quesadilla but that's because it was too much cheese for me personally. My family loves it so there you go! The sauces are HOT Price is beyond reasonable. The folks have been working the kitchen for years and I am beyond impressed by their hustle. At lunch time it's busy but they move so fast! Went to try out since my wife was in the hospital. As I walked in the person preparing the food was like what do you want . Like trying to rush me. The place was empty except for two people eating. I told him it was my first time. So I was looking at the menu . I asked if the carried a particular Mexican food dish almost everyone does . He responded like we don't carry that shit . Like with an attitude. So I let it go and I told him I'm ready to order and he responded go ahead I'm not deaf I can hear you from here.. once I got my food meat was fatty chunks and more salty than the person preparing it . The El Lugar's are a Tyler staple. This location is on 5th street. The food seems to be about the same as the other locations, although my personal favorite is the original on Gentry. The menu is not large. Go for a #7 with everything. Add both green and red sauce. Trust me. read more

Great food, I've been coming here for years and I absolutely love this place. The prices are great as well. The only negative I have to say is the last time I came in about a month ago, I ended up with food poisoning. I don't know happened but within 20 mins of eating I felt like death, it could've been a simple mistake in preparation or hand hygiene, something I'm not super upset about it, it can happen at any resturant and to any customer. This place always has a clean kitchen and great food! The chicken #7 is addicting so be careful you will keep coming back for more! The chicken #6 is smaller if you just want a snack. Haven't tried the rest of the menu because they have never done me wrong in the past 10 years. I like a lot of hot sauce and to find the hottest is hit or miss so I get both. Amazing tacos, amazing super quesadilla, and great soda selection. The pace isn't super clean but I usually just get stuff to-go.

They have attitudes so I won't be back. My sister called me while she was taking my our mom to the doctor... she asked me to call in our usual order so I did. I called and said I would like to make a to go order and immediately he said we close at five... we had thirty minutes... I said she will be there before then. So I placed the order and he said it will be ready in 10 minutes. She got there and the guy immediately ran his mouth saying "I said 10 minutes not 2" I don't understand why people in this type of business have attitudes like this. You chose your job not me. They won't have to worry about me at this one again. Go to the one on 271... it's has way better food and service. Cash only is the only down side to going to the original one but I'd rather deal with that than someone who acts like this. I LOVE Taqueria El Lugar on Gentry and Troup. My wife accidentally called in an order to El Lugar III located on 5th street. The #7 Super Quesadillas (normally my all-time favorite) were dry and bland. The tortillas they were wrapped in were not warm and browned like at the other locations. In fact the tortillas were quite dry like they'd been sitting exposed to open air all morning. I live about 2 minutes from el Lugar III(5th street) but was reminded why I avoid it.
