This truck has always caught my eye. Made a mental note to check it out when I'm coming back to…read moreHOU from AUS and it was a great decision! Located just about a mile before Bu-cees in Bastrop, you'll find this right off of Rt 21 near the Ally Medical Emergency stop. Stopping here on my way back from AUS on a Sunday in early September, it was about 830AM, just in time for breakfast. So breakfast tacos were the order with a chorizo & egg plus a sausage & egg. After about 4-5 minutes, my order was finished. Digging in, the flavors are straight up fresh and tasty with the warm tortillas fresh off the grill and the eggs mixed in nicely with the other proteins. The tacos are quite large so two were enough for me. Price-wise, they are very affordable and they take credit cards too. Do not miss this when you're on 21; definitely one of the best-kept secrets in Bastrop and I look forward to returning for more when I venture out to AUS... or coming back from there!

After trying out this place a few months ago, my husband and I have kept coming back for more!…read more We like to order the Al pastor tacos with everything on it. We always take them home and they remain super hot still! The ingredients are fresh, they make em so fast and have great customer service, normally I'm waiting with my daughters and they bring it right out to us!! The green salsa is so good with the perfect amount of spice! I'd recommend this place!

Decided to see if there were any Mexican food restaurants in town that we hadn't tried yet. I…read moreimmediately saw that this Taqueria has excellent reviews. It was only five minutes from our house so we took off. I judge a place almost immediately on their chips and salsa. They passed the test with delicious homemade tortilla chips and salsa that wasn't too spicy. We decided to try some of our normal dishes that we would order at any Mexican food restaurant like the combo plate with enchiladas and a crispy taco as well as their fajita plate. They make their tortillas in house and they were delicious as we were both of the dishes we ordered. The service was amazing - attentive but not overbearing. The restaurant itself is clean and had a lot of space. at first I thought it was just the front room, but there's a big room to the back right past the register. We will be back next to try out their breakfast, which looked delicious!

This joint is definitely older and I would call it a dive joint for sure, but if you follow along...that's usually a good thing. Service started of slow, but finished up nicely...Queso, Salsa and Chips to start....Queso was good, better with some salsa added...The plates of food came out piping hot and fresh...Wife went with the beef Chiladas with a red sauce...had a touch of heat behind it....beef alone had flavor...I went with the Suzia plate with chicken...excellent sauce, chicken alone tender and flavorful...made for a great bite. Beans were legit and we both enjoyed the rice. Overall a solid visit...We have several other joints booked marked in the LH area, but we will keep this on the back burner.

Came here for lunch around 3pm on a Saturday and were surprised this place was empty…read more We were greeted and seated right away. Server asked if we knew what we wanted but since it was our first time we asked for the menu & ordered 3 drinks: Mexican bottled coke, jarritos (pineapple) and Sangria (soda non alcoholic) We ordered 18 mini tacos and 2 cheese quesadillas. Total was: $57 (cash ONLY) - Al pastor: 5/5 for taste, flavor, presentation and amount of meat to taco ratio. Only thing sadly missing was fresh pineapple for topping. - Suadero (fajita): 2/5 it was nicely packed but sadly missed the mark on flavor and it was very dry. - Cabeza: 2/5 the cut of meat was good but missing flavor. - Chorizo: 3/5 the flavor was good but not great. - Cheese quesadillas: 4/5 the cheese was quality cheese but didn't actually melt at all. Once the food came out (10min) we were given 2 types of salsas: green guacamole and red with chile de arbol. I was only able to add a few drops of the red salsa so beware. Overall we really enjoyed the food, service and mainly the al pastor tacos. We'd come here again if we're ever in Kyle.

Route 71 between Bergstrom Airport and Bastrop is kind of a food desert…read more But they are just now starting to get food trucks. However, there is one food truck that has been in Cedar Creek forever. Mi Barrio at 71 and Pope Bend. This is an absolutely superlative food truck. If you needed one and only one place to eat along Route 71, This is the one you would want. * * * Tex-Mex is the order of the day here. The menu is very traditional. They are unapologetic about offering "alternative parts of the animal" such as tripas. The food is firey hot but hot with magnificent flavor. I never understood why people told me that Tex-Mex food is spicy. It isn't spicy in most places. It IS spicy at Mi Barrio. And this is fire you could learn to love. * * * Four notes of interest. a) I had the chicken fajitas. At bad Mexican food trucks, they use cheap chicken, Chicken that leaves a bad taste in your mouth. They use high integrity high quality ingredients at Mi Barrio. You could serve this chicken to your mother. b) Even though Mi Barrio is right next to Cedar Creek High School, I have never once seen a Cedar Creek High School student there. You go to the fast food restaurants near Westwood High in Austin, and they are packed with Westwood High students. I suspect the principal at Cedar Creek is stricter than the principal at Westwood High about letting students off school grounds. c) Most of the customers do not eat at the food truck. All of the customers I saw were working class Mexican. A few ordered for themselves and went off to eat someplace. A few others came in to get large orders that I presume were taken back to some work crew. The location is not wonderful. They are in the parking lot of a fairly cruddy Exxon convenience store. Highway 71 scenery is not magnificent. d) This place opens early and closes early. They will be there for breakfast. They will be there for lunch even if you wander in around 1-ish. I am a late afternoon kind of a guy which generally means I found them closed. * * * It would be snarky for me to say this is the best eating on Route 71, given the nearly total lack of competition. But it is more meaningful to say this place can stand up with The best of the Mexican/Central American food trucks on North Lamar in Austin AND The best of the Mexican/Central American food trucks on Route 812 in Del Valle. These are concentrations of really excellent Mexican food. You might not want to drive 35 miles to eat here. The location is ugly. This ain't no picture postcard. But if you DO stop and eat here, ignoring the view, You will eat very well indeed.
