Our group went to this restaurant for dinner and had an amazing time. The food, the drinks, the staff were all amazing! Everyone in our group of around 14 people seemed very happy with their meal. There truly isn't much when you're visiting Del Valle, except tacos after tacos. For a girls lunch, we selected the one taco place with a brick and mortar. Meches Mexican Restaurant (not to be confused with their taco stand a street down), has authentic Mexican food at decent prices (~$15/plate). It's definitely a hole in the wall with a somewhat uncomfortable vibe (mostly blue collar men staring at anything that looks out of place, especially young females). Meches might not be for everyone, but for the solid, authentic flavors without the usual Austin prices, it's worth a visit if you're ever in the area. We found this place a couple of years ago after the NASCAR race @COTA. After the race on 24 March, while everyone is stuck trying to leave the area we pulled into Meches for dinner. The staff is very friendly and engaging. Our waitress was on top of everything and very friendly. Everyone in the restaurant was upbeat and the food was amazing. I was camping at Cota for an event with family and decided to order food from nearby. Being from San Antonio I was already sketched about getting Mexican but that's what was close. We did have to call a few times before we got an answer so if you call and no answer I'd try again. We ordered nachos with beef and chicken and we ordered 2 chicken quesadillas. The food was okay we ordered pretty basic items so you cant really go wrong but I was really upset at the portion sizes. The nachos are for one person and also 1 quesadilla here is only a tortilla in half. This is a great place for Mexican food! I had a combo plate with a cheese enchilada, a beef taco, a chalupa, guacamole and a queso puff (which was a shell with queso in it). Delicious! My friend had carne asada with rice and beans which was also very good. Large portions! Many choices on the menu! We start with the basics...Chips, Salsa and Queso...I wish every joint served a Red and Green Salsa...Both were great...Green was additive and I couldnt get enough. Wife went with Beef Chiladas, double rice....and I went with the F1 Plate (This joint is right down the road from COTA)....One Chicken Chilada, One beef Taco, crunchy...and a small cup of Tortilla Soup..and great Charro Beans...The only thing we werent really a fan of was the rice...it was really mushy...flavor was great...just a texture thing...hoping it will be different next round...(-1 star)...other then that it was Delish!! read more

The ONLY reason I've ever traveled to Del Valle was to attend a concert and MOTO GP at COTA (Circuit Of The Americas). I mean why would anyone purposely go to Del Valle? Even more absurd to cruise 30 minutes on single lane roads through farmland and shanty's JUST to eat at a Tex Mex restaurant in the suburbs of Austin filled with 5 star Mexican food joints on every corner?!?! Well I didn't SPECIFICALLY drive 30 minutes in the middle of nowhere to dine here. Friends of mine were in town to set up a hospitality suite for the upcoming FORMULA ONE race at COTA and asked me to join them for lunch. Made sense to meet up here as they only had a 40 minute break and it's a mile from COTA. The humble interior was packed. Never been a big fan of Mexican food, Tex mex or otherwise, but the smells wafting throughout the tiny space were intoxicating.On this beautiful Sunday fall afternoon we chose to forgo the wait and opt for the stark well kept patio. Among the items ordered were the steak fajita burrito, the Crazy Plate (beef fajita tacos, beef enchiladas and cheese enchiladas) Carne Asada, chicken fingers (lol ya for the gringo) and I ordered my go to Beef Fajita's. While we waited for our entrees we munched on graceful non greasy corn chips accompanied with a red and green salsa both unassuming ;a pleasant Amuse Bouche. Pleasant waitstaff doing their best to not freak out with the constant throng of hungry regulars mixed with the European guests dressed in Pirelli, Ferrari, and Lamborghini logo polos. Little do those visiting Europeans accustomed to Michelin star fine dining understand that they have just eaten some of the finest Mexican food they will ever eat. Let me make this extremely clear.. Mexican food is not my jam...AT ALL. I've had the privilege of dining at some of the 'best' restaurants not only in the United States but throughout Europe and a few places In South Africa. Point being I've acquired an expensive pallet. When I taste good chow I know it!! What we have here ladies and gents is a Michelin star worthy casita in the middle of cow pie Texas.. who'd a thunk it?'!! Ordered to go - nachos and a fajita plate, the nachos only came with 6 chips and one DRY chicken on each chip and the to go plate was melted like if it was put into a microwave! Abstract: unique Mexican restaurant in the middle of no where We were hungry after our morning exploration of McKinney Falls so we searched up a restaurant and this place looked super yummy. About 11 mins away from the park entrance so not too far. It's a small restaurant with a ton of parking. There's some parking spots in the front then lots more in the back. Once inside we were greeted by a waitress and said we could sit anywhere we want (table of 4 at 1pm on a Saturday). She then brought some chips and salsa and took our drink orders. They didn't have aguas fresca so we ordered a large horchata and some water. The overall environment of the restaurant was nice. There were tables with people chatting and some music paying in the background. Not very loud but still fun. Food: Horchata- this recipe was off for me. It tasted like there was some powdered vanilla creamer in it and I didn't like that. I like a cleaner taste of just rice and cinnamon with maybe some almonds. Fajita a la cosme 5/5- this was really good. Nothing like I've ever tasted before. Flame kissed slices of steak smothered in a cheesy sauce with mushroom and pico de gallo. Served with rice, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, tortillas and a bacon and bean soup. The meat was tender and the sauce was very unique. Wrapped up in a tortilla, yum! Ground beef burrito 5/5- we didn't realize this was a "wet burrito" we thought it was going to be a hand held one but enjoyed it nonetheless. It came with rice, beans, and salsa. The flavors of the burrito was very nice and delicious. Enchilada Triples 4/5- classic enchilada taste but the chicken was a bit dry. Everything else was delicious though. Kids chicken Quesadilla 4/5- mid toddler enjoyed his cheesy enchilada and the rice and beans. He was a little sad it didn't come with guacamole like our usual Mexican restaurant but still devoured everything. I would definitely come back here if we go to McKinney Falls again. Nothing exceptional. The rice is well-spiced, and the salsa that comes with the chips is nice. I just wish they refilled our chips and salsa.
