    Tripa and beef tacos
    Tim N.

Everything about this taco Truck is okay, not the best or offer the best service. The food taste good but the service was horrible. When we order our food, it took them 20 minutes to get it ready, it was a slow day, the gentlemen who serve us did not speak much English, and he also "forgot" to put our order in when I pick up at the counter. The location where they located is not safe at all, got harassed by panhandler. I got a feeling someone can sneak up behind up and rob you. Just not safe. And if you're American or don't go there much, they don't give you any good sauce. Period.

Hubby and I checked this place out on the recommendation of one of his customers. I would eat here again but it's not my favorite place for tacos. The tacos were good and cheap ($.99!!) though small. They also offer a nice variety of things to eat. They weren't the friendliest bunch but they weren't rude to me either. I love that the truck listed meat in both English and Spanish though I list mine in Spanish because that's what I'm used to calling them. They also have a sign saying you can purchase beer inside the Superman store, though I'm not sure if they get any of the profits or if they have just been asked that so many times they put up a sign. Hubby got a crap ton of tacos and I got to try some but not all. He said not to both with the barbecue one (since he ate it before I got a chance to snag a bite) and since I typically don't like that either I think I'll stick with his recommendation. They have something called mulitas which my husband says are like papusas. I didn't get the chance to ask what the differences were and just got one al pastor to try it. Ohhh myyy nomalicious goodness. I loved it. Loved: - Mulita del Pastor (my fav) - Taco de Carnitas (hubby fav) - Taco del Pastor (hubby fav) - Taco de Pollo Nah: - Taco de Barbacoa

This is one of the most talked about taco trucks in Memphis. I had been getting tacos from here for 10 years but sort of stopped 3 years ago in search of other taco trucks in Memphis. In that time away from the truck they had upgraded to a new look, a different parking situation, added new items, started accepting credit cards, etc. When I used to frequent them, tacos de carne asada were $1 each, now they are $2. I ordered a couple of those tacos and one of their newer items: tacos de birria with a cup of soup. I ordered 3 of the birria tacos and the person asked if I wanted them crispy and I said yes. They all came with the same vegetables: preserved carrots, lime, onion, cucumbers, etc. I'm pretty sure they used to have chopped white onion but this time they came with chopped red onion. The lime was dry and some of the carne asada was inedible (fat, tendon, etc.). For some reason I assumed birria tacos had melted white cheese in them but these didn't. The birria tacos are on double full sized tortillas whereas the tacos de carne asada are on double stacked street taco sized tortillas. I did get quite full. The soup definitely seemed like it was made in house (or in truck) from scratch. I wished the birria tacos were fried in some spice but they were decent tacos. The meat was super tender and not like it had been blitzed up in a processor. All around decent tacos but I feel like there's room for improvement. I'd still come back here though.

    .99 cent carne asada tacos.

tl;dr - Tasty .99 cent tacos, delicious green sauce, fast service, cash only. I wanted to try something new for lunch today, so when I saw the Taqueria Express #5 food truck as I was cruising down Summer Ave. I knew it was meant to be. I eyeballed the menu for a few minutes before deciding my maiden voyage would be with some of their tacos. I order three carne asada tacos and a pineapple drink. Five minutes and $6 later I was munching on some delicious tacos. After ordering my food I discovered they don't take credit cards, but they went ahead and started preparing my food while I walked in to the gas station and withdrew a few bucks from the ATM. While the meat was pretty standard stuff, the fresh ingredients and their salsa verde green sauce were very tasty. I wish I had know to order their hot sauce as well, but I'll be sure to fix that next time I stop by. Did I mention their green sauce? It is absolutely fantastic, I covered all three of my tacos with it and it paired very nicely with all of the other ingredients. Next time I stop by I'm going to be a bit more adventurous and try some of their other meat options for their tacos and grab a couple mulitas, which I hear are great. My only gripe is that I asked for my tacos without tomatoes and they still had some. I'm not sure if they were part of a salsa or they just forgot to not add them, either way they were still very good.

This is the onion with specks of cilantro that came in the birria taco plate

I came here for the birria tacos as the other taco truck down the road was packed and boy did I regret it. They said it would be a 20 minute wait for my order to be ready and I waited almost an hour. They gave me a hard burnt sope as small as the palm of my hand. The sope was so hard I could not even take a bite out of it when I tried to. Ordered the birria tacos and they were good but they would have been better with cilantro. They only put onion with tiny specks of cilantro on my plate. Paid to get extra meat on a torta and got less than half a handful of meat. Asked for a quesadilla and did not get it. Ordered some tacos al pastor with everything as well and they also had only onion with specks of cilantro. The only thing I really like and would come back for is the tacos al pastor as they did taste really good. I am not giving them 1 Star just because the al pastor tacos were really good and the consommé for the birria tacos was really good too. Everything else was a miss though. There were literally only 4 orders in front of us and they were small orders and they also had to wait almost the same amount as us. When people started saying something about it they ignored them and closed all of their windows so nobody would go up to them and even left a line of people waiting to place their order. I would understand if they messed up because they were short staffed but they literally had 4 men and the cashier in that food truck and not many customer so there really was no reason.

While driving on Summer my boyfriend noticed this food truck and wanted to try it out, which I'm glad we did. We both ordered tacos which are just .99 each. I had one barbacoa, pastor, lengua, and tripa taco. All four where good, but the tripa taco was my favorite. My least favorite was the barbacoa, it was lacking in flavor. Overall, I will be coming back to try more things from the menu. Plus the canned drinks are free, I think it's a promotional thing since they're just starting out.

Ok, now these are the kind of tacos I'm talking about. .99 cent just like in Cali. Why pay $2.19 down the road for a tablespoon of meat when you can pay .99 cent for two tablespoons and be able to order morethan just a few since prices are so reasonable. You leave this truck a happy eater. The prices on everything is reasonable. There's always a line buy that should say it all, they're worth it. The horchata is very good too. Looking forward to trying more than just the tacos and will return.

You can't beat 99 cents tacos! Thanks to Daniel, I learned about this place during Memphis Taco Tour. I order a steak and chicken taco and they were good, not the best of the tour but good. The place was pretty busy but they were quick getting out the orders. Also be sure to bring cash as it is a cash only food truck.

I tried two tacos and a torta. I didn't get sick as someone else mentioned but I didn't love this food. Memphis has some fabulous taquerias and I just wasn't sold here. It didn't seem overly clean. It didn't seem overly fresh. I'm giving it three stars because it was average Memphis tacos. Extra points for being convenient to my home, in a truck, and cheap. If I try it again I would ask about putting some hot sauce on the tacos as the beef tacos were a bit bland.

The food was excellent and we had a great server (Maggie) who helped us navigate the menu and the array of complimentary sauces. We ordered chips and dip (homemade) and this is not the standard bagged chips with salsa bottle. Crisp and substantial chips with fresh, flavorful, slightly spicy salsa. Really good! Maggie recommended the Birria Burrito with consume for my husband. Wow!!! Loaded with tender and flavorful shredded beef, whole beans, rice, and cheese in a grilled tortillia wrapper with a rich and hearty consume. He has a healthy appetite and still took some home. I got 2 alpastor tacos, which were excellent. Tender and flavorful pork with just enough pineapple. I alsi had a grilled chicken taco that was good, but not as luscious as the pastor. We LOVED the sauces. Yes, you got some mighty heat with a few of these, but they never sacrificed flavor for the sake of heat. Great pickled onion and habenaros, fresh crisp radish and cucumber, smokey, spicy dips. What is not to love!! Churos for desert, sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Clean, well lit reasurant. Casual. Torta Villa Carbon (4/5; marinated grilled chicken topped with grilled onions, grilled pineapple, melted cheese, jalapeños, and avocado): This was huge. I ended up saving half for lunch the next day. The combination of sweet and savory flavors worked really well together. 2. Campechano Burrito (4/5; steak strips and chorizo with rice, beans, lettuce, onion, tomato, and jalapeño): Steak and chorizo are always a winning combination, and this burrito did not disappoint. 3. Chirucas Chimichanga (4/5; two medium chimichangas stuffed with rice, beans, cheese dip, and your choice of meat, served with lettuce, pico de gallo, and sour cream): I chose the grilled marinated pork (al pastor), which was flavorful and satisfying. The server mentioned that the chicken version is their favorite. The service was decent overall, though it could be slow at times. I noticed a few tables waiting a while before servers came to take orders or refill drinks, and my drink was empty for a bit before getting a refill. Dinner service can get very busy, as every table was once full in one of my visits. Would I come back? Absolutely.
