That was not a good feeling, but then he also did not speak English well. He messed up three of the four items we ordered and of course they all cost more than what we ordered. When we got the bill and told him, he got the cook and we were able to settle everything out easily. We were told that the owner's wife was out so he was serving. We were happy to hear that his serving was temporary :). I am not sure if we received the lunch item or dinner item because our bill was wrong, but I ordered the chile verde chimichanga which comes with rice and beans. It was hot and fresh and absolutely delicious! My partner had the bean and cheese lunch and he loved it as well. The salsa was flavorful and mild. All of the food was mild so next time I will ask for some spice! The restaurant is a good size and festive looking. It was clean and comfortable and the prices were good! We can't wait to go back!

Lastly, we ordered 2 carne asada tacos and the meat was also burnt black and dark brown bits, no lime served on the side for these. After leaving a 25% tip online we'd hoped to have an enjoyable meal but we were disappointed. Also surprised at whoever packaged the food, letting it be served in that condition was concerning. We'll try elsewhere next time we are in the mood for good Mexican food.

My wife and I were out one day, decided to try something new, and found this gem up the street from our church. One thing I always look for with cultural cuisine is who's actually eating there. When you walk into a place and see people who grew up in that culture enjoying the food, it tells you everything you need to know about authenticity. This spot checks that box. It feels like the kind of food you'd get at a friend's house, not just something made to look the part. The staff was friendly and personable, which made the experience even better. Now, let me set expectations--this isn't the kind of place where your water glass is getting refilled every five minutes. But you can grab a soda or a horchata and you're good to go. The open kitchen is a big part of the experience. You can see everything being made, and more importantly, you can smell it. You start eating with your nose before the food even hits the table. You take it in with your eyes, and then your taste buds finish the job. I've recommended this place to a few people, and they've gone back again and again. That says a lot. If you like authentic food and want something that feels real--not staged--I think this could easily become one of your new favorite spots.

The birria was so damn good. Carnitas was really good too, the meat was a bit hard at times. I came with a friend and after we ordered there was an almost 30 minute wait. I was getting a bit restless but the place was busy and the food is made fresh. We were also served tortilla chips with frijoles as a sort of appetizer while we waited. They serve beer here as well. I'm pretty sure there is one week I visited them 3 times . During the holidays they have salvadorean tamales which are also great! Recently they introduced me to pasteles de pollo salvadorenos and they were phenomenal. Seasoned super well with such good flavor. (I don't believe they have these all the time though.) I always order the revuelta pupusas and they hit every single time. They used to be in Rancho more often, but have recently been up in Auburn pretty full time. That hasn't stopped me/us from visiting though! My husband and I have made the drive up there just for pupusas and of course to say hi to our favorite food truck couple. We've come to their food truck so much in the last 3 years that we're on a first name basis . If you ever see their food truck out and about, do yourself a favor and stop! You won't regret it.
