I was invited to eat here by some local friends and boy were they right! This is the best Authentic Mexican Food in town! I got the camarones rancheros (order #23). It came with refried beans, rice, and a tomatoe-based sauce with onions, avocado, and sliced jalapeños. The taste was perfect; the temperature was hot and fresh; the texture was tantalizing. Their chips and salsa were also served in generous portions. Service is great; food is great; ambiance is great! I shall return, Deo Volente!

The little big town of LaJunta "Rocky Ford" you have little to no options. The places to be seen are at Sonic Burger, Safeway, drive through liquor store and the mother of them all... Taqueria Mexico. The draw for simple LA folks like us was the cheap margaritas. I went with the locals favorite, green chili smothered burrito. Lets just say it filled the stomach atleast. What the word is around town is this place is a cover for the local Mexican mafia. The big man comes in on the weekends in his pressed suit with the cronnies and hold his top secret meetings. Isn't life Grand!!

We were driving through town and starving. We just hoped for a decent meal. It was delicious. I would definitely come here again.

Friendly counter person - offered to help if we needed it. My husband enjoyed his ground beef…read moretacos. I ordered the chicken tacos, no cheese. I felt the chicken taste was off. Old? Seasonings used? They came with mostly no cheese but a couple of bits on the plate would have put a friend in to anaphylactic shock. Dietary restrictions are awful but restaurants need to pay heed to them

Mauricio's Tacos - La Junta, Colorado…read more My family and I tried Mauricios Tacos for the first time a few months ago. We had been curious about the place for years but never had the time to stop. Then, one night we were heading home from Pueblo, they were still open, and a fresh taco sounded great. Okay, maybe two tacos each to be honest. So we grabbed tacos to go so they had plenty of time to close at their leisure. I nearly told the gal to keep the tacos when I saw the price but when you need a taco, you need a taco. We were all pleasantly surprised by the size of the tacos, presentation with extras, and the taste. This was a stop we were going to plan for in advance from then on. The next time we stopped we ate inside the no frills but exceptionally clean restaurant. We had more tacos, rice, beans, and a chili relleno. It was really good yet again. Our plates were empty and so it was easy to scrape and stack them at their trash bins. And then there was today. We left home early to hit our new favorite guilty pleasure. The three of us spent $76 and change, with tip, for three plates. We all had the same #10, rice and beans with a beef burrito and a crispy beef taco. We all agreed that the taco was good, the rice and beans were...okay, and the burrito was as dry as the Sahara and just nasty. There was only a bit of dry shredded beef and a hint of cheese in a tortilla that was so dry it was painful to try to chew. My son wouldn't even eat. My mother ate to be polite. I ate what I could because I paid too much for the disappointment we had been served. As we ate we hardly spoke because of the volume of the dueling flat screen TVs having a Fox vs CNN showdown. We DID discuss that we didn't understand why we were being asked to tip when they only handed us food. I mean, what is the point. I tipped just because anymore you just have to wonder if you are risking a return if you don't comply. But I have to get our food, get the to-go box, scrap our plates and stack them at the trash. So, I went to the restroom and I returned I stood at the end of the table in order to wait for my son and handicapped mother to be ready to stand and leave with me. I hadn't grabbed the plates yet. (Why stand there with dirty dishes in hand just to wait?) My mother and I had discussed that if you tip you shouldn't have to do the dishes but it is not my way to leave them. That is when the female employee, who was talking with another table, haulted mid conversation to scold me. Yep, you read that right. She yelled (no exaggeration) across the way to me that I needed to scrape and stack our plates before I left. She was harsh and wore an angry expression as she berated me. I should add that I have ALWAYS been polite, even kind to her. When she stopped, and mind you she went on, I calmly informed her that we hadn't left yet and her behavior was not only premature but completely uncalled for. We were the customers, not employees. We were the guests, not unwelcome strangers. I am an adult, and not a badly mannered child. I feel bad for the table the female employee was standing with. They had to have felt so neglected when she cut them off. TIP is actually an acronym. It means To Insure Proper Service. There is no reason for Mauricio's employees to receive tips when they can't even behave properly in general. To that female: Shame on you for lowering yourself to act like a rabid dog. You did yourself and the business that employs you a disservice. Moral of the story might be to take the tacos, don't tip, and leave. WE will not return.

    Daylight Donuts

Not great! Well... at least not @ 10:30am…read more I wanted to try out the ONLY donut place in town because that's how I roll! Aside from spicy, I like my food sweet too. I've been dreaming of a "chocolate cake" donut. You know, the smaller donut that's fully chocolate with chocolate glaze. It can also come with other toppings like nuts, coconut, sprinkles and all that the jazz. I was really excited because it's a franchise and Daylight Donuts general website was looking pretty solid. I knew it was late but I thought maybe they'd still have an alright selection to choose from. Their open from 6am to 12pm. We were an hour and a half shy of closing time. I really thought I did a descent job @ factoring in our timing and the small town thing, but I guess I was WAY off base here. So, upon walking in you got your three older gentlemen seated in a corner table that didn't seem too friendly. We pay them no mind and head to the empty donut case anyway. There were about 8 pieces left. Nothing fancy and seriously, they weren't appetizing to look at either. I decided to get a few anyway because my kids were looking forward to it. I got two maple bars (one Bavarian filled & one regular) and a chocolate bar also Bavarian filled. The worker didn't really understand me when I said I'll take the two Bavarian filled and an additional regular maple bar so she stuffed my bag with two and rang me up. Not realizing that happened, I was still shocked to find that my total was $2.87 for three donuts. Little did I know I only had TWO in the bag. Thinking she made a mistake I went back up and she apparently thought I said one of each. Okay, whatever. So, I bought a plain maple bar to add to the bunch which cost $1.38. SMH THE REASON for my novel is because I'm just not use to the high costing donuts. My cousin even warned me that it might be pricey because they don't have any competition. If I want a damn donut, it's gonna cost me. Shoot, if I were back @ home another dollar or two spent would have given me a DOZEN. YES, $6 gets you a dozen FABULOUS looking donuts. Now, a little note on the actual donuts themselves. As I said, they were the bottom on the barrel and it looked like it. Small with bubbles in the lack of glaze. You can't really ruin the taste and I'm glad about that. The only downer was the filling. It was WAYYY too sour. I'm familiar with Bavarian cream and that taste didn't complement my donut. It was also lacking in filling. Overall, it wasn't the best experience but I will say that I wasn't there during peak donut time hours. I'll have to come back earlier to see what this place truly is about. Until then...!!
