    Carne Asada tacos.
    Gilbert M.

Route 43/Highland Late night craving for that taco itch. It's a pretty convenient place to drive to when you feel like getting tacos late at night. They have a few taco options to choose from, and during my first visit I decided to sample the carne asada and the al pastor (pork) fillings. They are small tortilla but boy do they packed them in size. I usually get nothing but meat most of the time so if you want to make a complete meal out of them and are feeling really hungry, I would suggest getting around 3-5 tacos. I ordered them to go and they wrapped them up in foil, and the veggies/salsa are close-by to load them up however you want, as much as you want. I thought that the tacos were pretty good, but the carne asada and the al pastor didn't really taste too different in flavor for me. Both were seasoned well, but they tasted quite similar to one another. Given the size of these tacos, you can pretty much down one easily with just a couple of bites. To me this truck is better than it's competition quarter of a mile away down south of the 43/Highland not too far, I believe is called Tacos La Flor... now that place is kinda wack but more popular. Alcohol clouds judgement and impairs people's taste buds I guess. The service was also alright, and the people who work there seem friendly enough. The food did take a while to be prepared though, so if you come here, do expect to wait a bit before your order is completed. I also think that for the amount of taco you get, the price is reasonable considered how late it is. Also cash only keep that on mind when your about to come over here. Overall, not a bad place to go when you're in the mood for some tacos, so I would definitely not mind coming back here again. I rate this place 3.5

Located right off the highway, this truck provides some of the most authentic food I've ever had. Chain run Mexican restaurants should be ashamed of themselves. Imagine if this cook had a full sized kitchen. While the food rates 5 stars, the location is sorta hidden from the northbound side of the highway. And after a small rain, the parking area muddied up quickly. Will certainly be back.

    Quesadilla

The latest thing these days seems to be the replacement of small restaurants with catering trucks parked next to an easy-up. I see this all over south LA, and now I've seen it in rural Selma. The food was great! I had an excellent carnitas burrito and my wife had a stupendous carnitas quesadilla. Both were top notch and came to $11, including a small horchata for me. Moist meat. Generous servings. Good quality ingredients. Preventing a five rating is the seating. There were flies everywhere. I'm pretty much not bugged (heh) by flies, but there were dozens of them, and they were constantly landing on the food. My wife was bothered more by it, so she was waving her hand the entire time she was eating. So, if flies are a problem for you, in this neck of the woods, you're going to have to go inside and not eat next to a growing field in a rural area. It was also hot--in the 90s--so that made the fly problem worse. I think that a strong fan or two might help. Instead, they have some pathetic little fly strip/trap that was doing nothing. What self-respecting fly would go for that with all the good food being served?

Service was good, parking not that great. My tacos were salty and the guac was watery.

Even now, whenever I have a reason to pass through town, I make it a point to stop by. The food has always been consistently delicious, with generous portions and flavors that keep me coming back year after year. What makes this place special, though, is that it's a true family-owned business with deep roots in the community. In a world where so many local restaurants have come and gone, it's great to see a place with so much history continue to thrive. Sal's is one of those restaurants that feels like a part of Selma itself. Great food, great people, and decades of memories. Highly recommended.

I feel we should've been seated at a regular table since it was a little squished. There was a lot of options on the menu to choose from. The waiter asked if we wanted anything to drink. Everyone got water and one also got a diet soda. We also got complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were crunchy and the salsa was your average salsa. I decided to get 2 item combination plate. I got the tamale and the ground beef enchilada. The plate comes with Spanish rice and refried beans. The portion would fill up someone who was hungry. Some of the people at the table had taken some leftovers home. The Spanish rice had flavor. The refried beans was average. Tamale was a litte dry so decided to put some salsa or the enchilada sauce on it. The enchilada was good. If you want a filling meal for a reasonable price, then this restaurant is a good option.

Then the day comes when you say 'screw it' and finally decided to go in, only to get blown away. Yeah, that's EXACTLY what happened in my case. I finally decided to go in and check it out after hearing many good things about and it was AMAZING. The attendants behind the counter super courteous and sweet, heck, I felt like the most important person in there. A nice atmosphere despite having to remove their dinning area due to COVID, but from what I saw, it carried a good ambiance. Anyways, I got to the counter and ordered my food (shrimp fries), waited a bit and then was given it. Right away I could SMELL the shrimp and boy was my mouth watering. Ugh-- totally swooned right then and there. It was really hard to resist the urge of just sitting in my car and eating the whole thing right there. Nevertheless, I made it home in the end with my precious package intact and it was still friggin piping hot. So much shrimp was packed into along with gooey cheese and some sort of sauce. I didn't know what it was, but it was delicious. It was a massive portion too. Needless to say, I wasn't able to finish it all in one go, but that only meant I'd have more for later! All in all, l LOVED the experience and I LOVED the food. I will definitely be stopping by here again!
