A classic authentic Mexican restaurant in the heart of Selma. I have attended this restaurant for years, even before its current name. I recently returned and I fell in love all over again. This genuinely is great tasting food. The ambience is calm and welcoming, I absolutely love the hand painted murals throughout. The music played during my visit was beautiful and classic Mexican music including, Vicente Fernandez, Banda Recodo. My only complaint / concern is our table was very wobbling / unstable. Our drinks almost spilled. We physically (the customers) had to fix the table by using a napkin to enjoy our meal peacefully. One of my favorite Mexican restaurants. Their shrimp coctel is loaded with shrimp. The chicken flautas are also delicious.

I really wasn't too impressed we got seated right away once we arrived. They had a lot of different options on their menu, which was like Mari school's hamburgers, pancakes, and basic authentic Mexican food. We ordered Cam Mojo de Ajo, which was two garlic too much garlic in there there was not even any butter the rice got drenched with the garlic and the butter, so it was very oily. We ordered a steak plate which they brought last. I don't understand why they should've brought out all the food together they brought out the Menudo first, and they just took forever to bring out everything which I found very weird. I would never order my plate ever again, which was a come on Mohala. The Menudo was good. it did have flavor and it had a lot of meat in it. The steak plate or the Carne Asada plate was good, but I don't understand why it took forever to read that Play-Doh. The restaurant is kind of big it was crowded with a lot of people. There was no way to sit, but I don't think we'll ever go back. We drove about 30 to 45 minutes to try the place out since we had seen it on TikTok, but wasn't too great. read more

Me: 2 item with chicken taco and switched my taco to asada meat.(AND HOW DARE THEY MAKE IT THE SIZE OF A PERSONAL PIZZA) Granddaughter: Ordered quesadilla kids meal She couldn't eat it all but she said it's her favorite. We were starving and stopped in here to grab an order to go. It can always be a bit award making to-go orders at old-style restaurants with no app but we were not in the mood for "fast food". The parking lot is a bit small and after we parked, someone literally blocked us in (no fault of the establishment and I handled it) just be advised. I ordered a 2 chicken taco combo meal and my husband had the Mojado Burrito which came to around $35 for the both of us. I was also quite excited about the large portions. Unfortunately, we were really amazed at how bland the food was. The tacos had chicken, cold shredded cheese, lettuce and tomato and that was all, there was no sauce or flavor and the rice and beans were the same. I don't even think they used salt or pepper on anything. My husbands burrito looked a bit more promising with the sauce, but he said it was the most flavorless burrito he has ever had. That being said, if you are really hungry and you are the type to carry some siracha or tapatio in your purse, you may very well enjoy this spot more than I did. read more

Raised in Selma but my first time at La Estrella was yesterday! I have been missing out. We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in. Nice dining area, lots of booth seating. We came in right at lunch time. Ben tried a burrito and I tried their crispy tacos. All delicious! Ben said the chili verde in the burrito could have been spicier but it was perfect for me. Loved the crispy, shredded beef tacos. Stuffed! Full of beef and a ton of cheese on top. Two were more than enough. I'd like to keep trying more of their menu. We're on dry January but it looked like they had a good selection of beers and micheladas too! Great service and food. read more

Went there for my mother's birthday because she likes the menudo there. 14 of us drove up to celebrate her birthday. We just showed up and they put us all in the back room. The two young people serving were champs. The food was good and huge portions. Menudo was great and I really enjoyed my eggs and chile verde. We'll go back next time we are in town again. read more

Back in Selma and our favorite restaurant wasn't open so we decided to try "La Estrella". The restaurant was not immaculately clean but it wasn't filthy either. It could use a little a little elbow grease. The bathrooms definitely needed attention. The food was good and portions were huge. Price was great for the amount of food you get... Happy New Year! 1/01/24 I wanted menudo so I placed a Togo order. When I got home I noticed majority of menudo had fat on most of it and I ordered two! So both menudos were pretty much the same. It looked like they didn't trim it correctly and not to mention very little hominy! The flavor was good. My husband did end up eating it but, I couldn't eat it. I also ordered over easy eggs with chilaquiles with a side of rice and beans but there was NO EGGS! I did call to tell them about the eggs and they said I can go back and pick up the 2 eggs I said never mind it's okay and hung up. I definitely will not be a returning customer. read more

The more we go to this place, the more we like it. Customer service is always solid and several items are ready good. Wait times might be slower than pre-pandemic times. But almost everyone is short on workers. Started coming for the delicious menudo and pozole. My mom mentioned how good it was and we stopped by to confirm. Very tasty and chunky. We have also tried a bunch of other items too. The ceviche is pretty good. The coctel campechana was solid. All kinds of shrimp and octopus with alot of flavor. A couple days ago, we went for breakfast. The wife had huevos rancheros verdes and my son had the chilaquiles verdes. They have huge serving sizes and it was pretty tasty. I had the machaca plate. The picture shows it with hash browns for some reason. But it comes with beans and potatoes. I asked them to leave out the potatoes. The machaca is a shredded beef mixed with onions, bell peppers, and eggs. I forgot to ask them to cook some jalapeño in it. But the server hooked me up with a grilled jalapeño on the side when I asked about it. Next time, I'll be sure to ask BEFORE they cook everything. This was a delicious choice! I've passed by this place for so many years it's hard to believe I never tried it sooner. Inside the restaurant is a bit compact, but the food is worth it. I think they serve man sized burritos. I've tried the Asada burrito and Wet Chile Verde burrito. Damn, I mean it in a good way. Pictured is the Chile Verde burrito and it was a medium size pie. I did cut it up so that's why it looks the way it does. I wasn't able to finish in one sitting. I was literally stuffed! Had me some leftovers and it held up well. It's perfectly spicy and has flavor to it. Placed an order to go and was done in 10mins. Can't complain about the service. For the price I paid it was well worth it! Our original plans were to go to Sal's for Saturday dinner. My wife remembered La Estrella was a favorite of one of her aunts, so we stopped there for dinner. I ordered menudo and my wife ordered a chili verde burrito. She said her burrito was ok, it was mostly filled with rice. When the waitress brought the menudo, I could smell the tripe. It didn't appear to be washed properly before they cooked it. Also, the broth had a strange taste; not sure what it was. Left a strong after-taste in my month. The girl that sat us and brought our drinks had good customer service. There was another girl that checked on us a couple of times and always had a smile on her face. I've tried to eat here twice. First time they were supposed to be open until 9pm. I showed up around 8.15pm and they were closing up (sweeping the floors and stuff). So I got turned away. No big deal, sometimes places close early I guess. Then I tried another time. Called ahead this time and was told that they were open until 9pm. I drove over and arrived at 7pm. My Chile verde was not good at all the Chile verde was dry the rice was dry also. They brought me tortillas they were hard as a rock. My husband burrito was very dry also he was hungry so he suffered through . I mentioned to the waitress that I was unhappy with the food and the tortillas were hard . I called earlier tonight to order some Asada fries and asked what was on them and I was told a side of guacamole and sour cream and only meat cheese beans and the fries came with the order. Now when the order was to be picked up, it had tomatoes on it and I would've ordered it without tomatoes. The women that work here are soooo rude and unfriendly. Didn't feel welcomed at all. First thing that happened was the waitress (a thick girl with tattoos and big lashes) dropped the drink on the table, not a big deal, it happens; but she took a very long time to clean it up. It spilled on us and and all over the table. Didn't even dry it right and took off with out taking our order. A young man (tall slim) passed by and we asked for a wet towel to clean the stickiness off. He actually went back and brought a clean wet towel and cleaned our table. I asked him for a different waitress and a petite blonde hair lady came, took our order with an attitude. She was such in a bad mood. The only person to come up and ask if we needed anything else was the young man. Very friendly, respectful, kept asking if we needed anything else. Towards the end we asked for a drink and the blonde hair waitress set the drink down still with an attitude. The drink splashed with the force she used to put the drink down.
