    Potato Chorizo Taco
    Eva M.

Taco-bout a great local spot. San Juan is family owned in the small town of Leakey, TX. There aren't many choices to choose in town but I can assure you won't be disappointed if this is the place you choose to eat at if the other places in town are packed from the summer tourists. Everything you order is cooked fresh to order and they can sometimes get busy in the later morning hours but if you have time on your hands stop by. We got some of our usuals we like to get here, the bean and cheese tacos, carne asada tacos, and potato chorizo tacos. We ended up getting 3 tacos each and with their being 3 of us this was quite a lot of tacos but let me tell you the portion size for what you get fills you up and we each had to take a taco home to eat later on in the day. If you like spicy salsa make sure to ask so you can put it on your taco for an extra kick. They offer other items like burgers, and different meal options I've previously ordered the burrito and my goodness it's delicious. Whatever you order here you won't be disappointed. This is one place where I feel great eating at and supporting a local family owned establishment. Keep up the friendly service and fresh food. I'll be back when I'm in Texas again.

If your in the mood for outside seating in downtown Leakey they have breakfast food that is perfect to start your day.

Great breakfast tacos, salsa (both red and green were good, better mixed) and tortillas were solid which is key. Would go again

The chicken was crispy, the bacon was cooked just right, and everything came out hot and fresh. The fried pickle spears were crispy on the outside and went great with the ranch. We also had a root beer and a whiskey/Diet Coke to go with everything. Really good little stop after a day at the river--casual, filling, and tasty. We'd definitely stop at Bent Rim Grill again next time we're out that way.

When the guy behind the register read back the order to me, just from that, I absolutely knew I created a masterpiece. Luckily, the guy in the kitchen brought it life just as I imagined it! Absolute must: the sourdough jalapeno cheese bun. Really, every bite I thought, oh this really is a tasty bun. Two, count 'em two, patties, American cheese, bacon, and their own sauce. Man, so freaking good. Call this burger The Beast and get it on the board, baby! Had the sweet potato waffle fries, the onion rings, and the tots, and I would rate them just in that order. For a July day in TX we got super lucky and it was 80° so we sat outside (which I normally despise) and it was perfect. Could have spent the whole afternoon there!

So as I looked around it had that country cabin feel to it with the patio overlooking the frio river.Well went thought about eating outside but the sun was starting to come out and it was getting hot so my wife wanted to eat inside. So we sat down and looked at the menu I was very underwhelmed with the selection.very limited. Also someone told us they had chicken fried steak and eggs which they didn't.They have chicken fried steak but it's just for lunch and dinner. So I decided to get the rooster which is three eggs, bacon, home fries, toast and pancakes. My wife got the simple plate which was two eggs, bacon, toast and home fries.Overall I would say this place is mid.The best part of my plate was the pancakes.Which I thought were pretty good. The home fries were bland and had no flavor to them. Not to mention the bacon wasn't very crispy.I guess that was my fault for not telling them to make it crispy.I just thought this place would be better considering how long this place had been around and everyone telling us to go here.Maybe it's just a place for the locals and they are helping to support them.I will say this their prices are pretty reasonable. But then they make you pay extra if you use your card.So if you can bring cash. All in all the place is just ok but it gets the job done.

It wasn't particularly busy when we arrived, and we were seated quickly. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a cool, relaxed vibe that immediately made a good first impression. For breakfast, I ordered the eggs Benedict, my wife chose a vegetarian scrambled egg dish, our kids split pancakes, and my oldest son ordered the steak and eggs. We also added two sides of sausage patties. Unfortunately, the kitchen was very slow considering the restaurant wasn't especially busy. Service also wasn't particularly attentive during the wait, and we were left wanting drink refills for quite a while. Once the food arrived, there were some definite highlights. My eggs Benedict were good, with perfectly runny yolks. My wife enjoyed her entrée, and the kids liked the pancakes. The standout was actually my son's steak. The ribeye served over potatoes was very good, perfectly cooked, and had excellent flavor. Unfortunately, the scrambled eggs alongside it weren't nearly as successful. They came out more like a uniform yellow mass rather than the light, fluffy scrambled eggs you'd expect. The sausage was another example of the inconsistent execution. We ordered two sides: one was noticeably overcooked while the other seemed slightly undercooked. Overall, The Local Fix has a great atmosphere and the kitchen is clearly capable of putting out some very good food--the ribeye in particular was impressive. Our experience was just inconsistent. Better attention to cooking consistency, faster kitchen times, and more attentive service would have made this a much stronger meal. I'd be willing to give them another try based on the dishes they did well.
