We showed up here in the middle of the flooding to get to higher ground for a while. There are about 25 of us. I'm sure it was very overwhelming for the sweet lady who was working that day. Not sure if we caught this business on a bad day or other reviewers caught them on a good day. Based on our experience, others caught them on a singular good day. There were three of us on a motorcycle ride and decided to pull in for breakfast this past weekend. Place was dark inside and what appears to be the owner, was frustrated a waitress about something and they were making faces at each other. Service was horrible and when I asked for the check, the waitress took her pencil and started scribbling and then said "how about $53". I was shocked. We had four breakfast tacos, one migas place, 3 cups of coffee and 2 OJ's. I said "What?" and she walked off and came back and said $47. I still was shocked at the price but more disgusted with the personnel and the dark dingy inside. One of my buds said look at their A/C unit. Appears they put in one of the self contained all in one trailer A/C unit on the back side of the building, knocked a hole through the wall, placed two chairs against the inside wall and then placed a chair upside down on the other two and used the back rest as an air deflector on the inside. Of course, no filter was seen. I've been to some bad restaurants over my years, but this by far ranks number one in the bad category of worst places to eat. Totally forgot to take a photo of my food but I ordered a pancake and eggs plate and it came with 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and a meat choice (sausage, ham, or bacon). The pancakes were fluffy and light. The ham was a nice thick cut that they seared well. I also requested sugar-free syrup and they had some available. My husband ordered Lala's Sampler and it included a little bit of everything. A small cup of menudo, barbacoa, huevos rancheros, a side of bacon, and potatoes. My husband said it was delicious. So why am I not giving it 5 stars? I'm very selective and it's not the best I've ever had. However, it was delicious and if you're in the small town of Leakey and want something satisfying, don't overlook this place. Lala's is a little hole in the wall restaurant. We decided to try it because usually those places have the best food. Service was okay. Waitress was really nice. I tried their carne guisada plate. The carne guisada looked a little dried out. The rice looked old, mushy and overcooked. The refried beans were okay. My husband tried their barbacoa plate. The barbacoa was really dried out. His food didn't look appetizing at all. I ended up getting food poisoning. read more

I ate here a couple of weeks back. My barbacoa was a plate of grease. The refried beans were odd too. I wanted to like this place, but between the heat inside, there was very little AC and the lax cleanliness... I won't be back. Additionally, my debit card was compromised the following day after dining here. While I have no proof of any wrongdoing, I did call the establishment just as an FYI to the potential issue. I came for breakfast. The chorizo and egg soft taco was perfect... Maybe the best I ever had. It is also a full but light breakfast with just one... But I also got a French toast, and that was also good. My wife also enjoyed her eggs, bacon, and pancakes. The service was friendly. read more

Loved the green salsa, they should sell bottles to go. Had the potato & egg taco with flour tortilla, liked it very much. The jalapeño peppers are very hot, but I like hot. Also had the Barbacoa taco. That was very good. Would suggest that they remove more of the oil/grease from the meat before placing on the tortilla. Still, very good barbacoa! We've been coming to Leakey, TX since the 80's when my folks got land on the Frio. Usually don't eat in town but we got in late so skipped grocery run and wanted to grab a breakfast. Lala's has been around forever as a local favorite but can't tell you why. The server was rude, rolled her eyes for simple questions. Our order came out incomplete and the food was mediocre. Delicious!! Wish this place was open for dinner!!! Food is fresh, not too greasy! Tortillas were thin and light, with the perfect char. Ranchero sauce was probably among the best we've ever had, and refried beans were tasty and rich...not soupy at all!! We tried this place today. The food was mediocre and the place was filthy. Gnats flying around our table, bugs running around in the restroom that barely had a floor in it, food being made right next to a big container of dirty dishes and water. If you happen to be in Leakey. This place is worth the stop! We unfortunately were in Lakey during the Corona Virus out break so it was to go only. Despite this, the lady behind the counter ANDREA was very welcoming and cheerful. I told her this was my first time to Lakey and I would like some recommendations, she was more than eager to help! My wife is Vegan and I told her so. So I ordered bean and potato tacos on corn tortillas for her. The awesome ANDREA immediately recommended to order them "A la Mexicana" which added roasted onions and tomatoes. The end result was amazingly delicious! I ordered Potato and Chorizo on their homemade flour tortillas again a la Mexicana. The Tacos made my mouth very happy! The meal was delicious and the staff was very cheerful and enthusiastic. The only downside is they do not do dinner otherwise we would be there for dinner too! The entire menu looks delicious and will definitely be a regular stop when we come back to the area! read more

The frozen reheated food at the Grill by the Stripes is decent for being reheated Sysco food but this is the real deal here in the north end of Leakey. The owner, Lala, might be an actual saint. Great place to stop and grub if you're driving through Leakey. At first glance from the outside it looked more like an authentic Mexican restaurant, but the menu says otherwise; they served everything from menudo to bacon burgers, breakfast to dinner! Wait time for the food was very short and the staff was nice and as attentive as you'd want in a place like this. Only downside is a tid-bit, but the booth I was sitting in was very uncomfortable, but I'll definitely be back regardless! read more
