Dr. Kyna Wong - I really appreciate her willingness to explain, I'm one of those patients that loves to understand what's going on, and she really took the time (time and time again) to teach and inform me as a patient about why I'm experiencing what I'm experiencing. I've had previous eye doctors brush me off and not give me the time of day, and I remember the first visit I had in 2019, she really listened and worked with me to figure my issue out. I have a low prescription but she is so patient, diligent, and cares so deeply, she took the time to figure out the little nuances with my eye. I dread going to the eye doctor but Dr. Stacie Low makes you feel so welcomed and takes her time with her patients to explain everything in details so that you feel comfortable about your health care of your vision. My daughter & I've been going here for years because we're happy with them. We like that it's mostly women doctors and staff running the place. While I like their office and selection of frames, I really do like that they don't pressure you to buy their products. They may seem a bit disappointed but it is you who has to pay the bill at the end. There's usually nearby street parking but be wary it is mostly metered. If you don't mind a short walk, there is some free parking around the corners in the residential avenues. Great place and highly recommend this place. read more

Still mad. Paid close to $400 that's including my insurance for these terrible glasses that have Coke bottle half rounds. I can go to the home shopping network for $30 buy progressives. The lenses were wrong the first time because I could not read from the bottom of them and then they said they would take them back and fix them Course I had to pay for itand what they did was put these big half round Coke bottles. Of course I need glasses to see my glasses so I didn't notice until My son pointed it out. So damn pissed about it they look like crap and I can't afford anything different read more

This review is to mainly call out the front desk service I had experienced today, but before I do that, I want to just tell you the experience with the optometrist which is probably why you guys are here in the first place to read. I have no problems with the doctor herself. She is why informative and helped me with all my questions and she prescribed lenses that really fit my needs and my eyes don't feel so tired and dry as they used to because of her. At the time, last year in maybe Aug-Sept, the staff was helpful and so friendly. I was hoping to come back to experience the same thing today. Now I'm going to just express my experience with the front desk today. I had called in yesterday about bring in frames that I need prescriptions for. The girl was nice and I told her that I get off of work late like around 5pm (an hour before they close) and she just told me to just come on in and drop them off because I still have an active prescription. Cool! I work in FiDi, so after my meetings were done, I have to rushed to the slowest transportation system (muni and I have no choice), ran home to get the frames, and immediately walk/run to the optometrist office. By this time, I'm tired and sweaty and I just need to get this done because I've been so busy that I can't even come in on the weekend. The girl at the front desk greeted me with such disgust. I understand that I came in 10-15 min before closing but I was under the impression that it would be a quick thing. The girl immediately said "um, we are closed." I just told her what happened. She just didn't really help me. She was explaining their procedures as if this is something that everyone should know like "duh why don't you know this" kind of attitude. If a patient tells you that they going to rush to your office after 5pm, maybe you should tell the patient that you need 20-30min for already prescribed prescription lens in frames you already have. This information would have been nice to know because not all optometry offices operate the same! Ugh, that attitude was just so terrible; I felt really foolish for rushing and to have someone talk down to me. Also, muni is gross so I didn't get to wash my hands and I was using their hand sanitizer and she was staring at me so hard. Every vibe from her was like "we're closed go away dumb ass and stop using our hand sanitizer you free-loader." She could have been a little sympathetic/understanding. Just because she understands it, not everyone else will - get off your high horse. Overall: 5 stars for the optometrist and 1 star for that girl....avg: 3 stars. read more

I really thought that this place would be great - but wound up very disappointed. Apparently I have a narrow head, making me hard to fit when combined with my desire for wraparound prescription sun glasses. I first stopped by and dad told they'd order some frames for me to try. It took weeks for that to happen vs days and they wound up presenting me with one pair which looked like something from a Halloween costume and a couple of others which were not even close to what I'd asked for in the first place. First visit with Dr. Mary Kwong and it was a pleasant experience. I visited for a prescription and check-up. Dr. Kwong was very patience, answering all the questions I had in terminologies that a non-optometrist would understand. She is also bilingual in Chinese, so it helped with complicated terms. The entire visit was throughout and non-rush. The staffs, from the receptionist, assistant, Dr. Kwong and the person who adjusted my glasses were very professional. I had some problems after visit, which they were all very friendly and willing to assist. Highly recommended and will return again! read more

Very friendly practice. I got here at 425 for my 430 appointment on a Monday afternoon and was seen immediately it helped that I filled out the new patient form that's available on their website before I came in. The front desk was polite and the workers were honest about what the frames looked like on my face and I wasn't pressured to buy any expensive frames. Dr. Wong was super nice and told me exactly what she was doing and what for during the exam. She even recommended more hydrating contacts. She also gave me a nice discount on my evaluation. Kate spade frames cute and purple :). Some other people came in at like 550 and they close at 6 but the workers told them to take their time. So nice. read more

I have been going to Taraval Eye Care since elementary school and I would recommend them in a heartbeat. I have a very difficult prescription because one eye is much worse than the other but the better eye has a terrible astigmatism. This means that if the prescription is not just right, I have headaches and everything is blurry. Not only that, during grad school my prescription fluctuated wildly since my eyes were much more strained with lots of intense reading. All in all, it's been super important for me to find a doctor who can accurately determine the right prescription and understand my needs. Luckily I have been seeing Dr. Wong since forever and she is able to do just that. Not only has she been great about adjusting my prescription to my needs, she is also just pleasant and wonderful to see each time. I haven't see. Dr. Low as much but she had always been great when I see her as well. Jonie is also super nice and always a pleasure to see each time. She helped me be a bit more fashionable during my awkward middle school phase and has always been a staple at Taraval Eye Care. All in all this place has some great doctors and is supported by a great staff! read more

When I came here 2-3 years ago, they were very nice. I came here to find a pair of glasses, my first pair actually. It's kind of hard for me to rate this place because when I came here, I had no idea what to expect out of glasses or what I was looking for. I was only instructed to wear them for school and for the movies, which I took to meant didn't really matter what I was about to purchase because I wasn't going to be wearing it often. I only dealt with one of the opticians (Elise, i think). She was very nice though. She didn't rush me but she did try to help me pick out a pair. Her taste, well, let's just say they did not match mine. I'm not exactly sure whether it was cause I didn't know what to expect but the glasses all felt kind of the same and nothing really wowed me. I ended up picking a pair of coach glasses that were just whatever on me. My insurance barely covered anything and I ended up having to pay i think about 300-400 bucks out of my own pocket. I recently lost my pair of glasses. I don't even know how it happened. I've been trying to find cheap places, and lenscrafters only charges 100 for a comprehensive exam but the reviews on here about their service scares the living daylights out of me, so i may just come back here to do the exam for 15 dollars more. or 55 more since they don't offer a prescription only exam. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, because I need these glasses for driving and to see in class. So i need something quick, but at the same time i want to get good prices because i no longer have insurance. I may end up purchasing my glasses from here again or i may shop around. We'll see. All in all, this place has great customer service. I may come back here to get my glasses just because of that. My prescription worked out great. Everything was on time. I HEART Dr. Stacie Lo, who has been my optometrist for many years. Aside from being smart and really thorough, she's a total sweetheart. She recommended that I get lasik and it turned out great... But beforehand I was so nervous and called her to vent about the consultation experience; she was so great about chatting with me and setting my fears to rest. Then the night before my surgery she called me to check up on how I was doing, if I was nervous, etc.! It's amazing that a doctor would do that. That's how it should be. read more

I've been told since I first got glasses (about 22 years ago) that i have astigmatism so I would have to wear hard contacts in order to help shape my eye. since that first time, i've been going to various lens crafters and costco optometry to get my contacts/glasses. I just went to taraval eye care since it was so close to my home based on the good reviews. They were so friendly! Such a difference in service compared to costco. Dr. Elena was the one that helped me and my husband. She did a very thorough eye exam and told me I barely have astigmatism. I could definitely wear soft contacts. Hooray! Hard contacts would always get so uncomfortable especially when something like an eyelash got underneath the lens. No more! My eyes now feel like they are getting a hug. Dr Elena made sure that the contacts fit correctly and weren't too small for my eye. Incredible thorough and very friendly service and staff. HIghly recommended. read more

I've been coming here since elementary school. The doctors have been around for ages, so there is a lot of continuity and familiarity. They know my entire family. They remember my past history better than I do, and they keep better track of my eyes and glasses and contacts. The location is on a busy street, but there is usually free street parking within a block or two. Only drawbacks: there is occasionally a long wait, even if you have an appointment; and the staff at the front desk seems to have high turnover. read more

This place is the best. In concurrence with Eric G., I would have never been able to wear contacts if somebody did not spend two days training (read: putting up with) me. This was amazing because I was really afraid of "touching" my eye. Now I can put my contacts on in about 2 minutes. read more

Just got a new prescription from Stacie...it took us a bit to get things right because my eyes were acting weird. She was not content to settle for good enough...she called me each time after a couple of days of getting used to the new contacts. After several tries we got it so right....I love working with her. This is an update on my original posting when I lived in the outer sunset...and I said I would still come to Taravel Eye Care if I moved. I chose Taraval Eye Care because of their location. They are within walking distance to my place which was very convenient. The staff were very helpful and professional.The optometrist I saw did an excellent job explaining everything to me and didnt seem to be in a rush like other places Ive been. It isnt the most up to date practice as far as technology. The last optometrist I had seemed to have the latest equipment and techniques for exam. The selection of frames could also be better. That is probably a reflection of the population it serves though. Not the trendiest of neighborhoods. read more

Two days after my last visit, they called me and apologized for being unable to help me the other day and actually said they will let me make an appointment to pick up my glasses. So at least they are really trying to satisfy their customer. When I went there to pick up my glasses, I was pretty happy with the service. They even decided to order me a new frame because the one I got was slightly stretched out from the lenses being put in. So they let me take it for now, but in a few weeks they will call me to come in to replace it. read more

I had a wonderful experience with Taraval Eye Care, specifically with Dr. Wong. I came after having an ODD that I did not enjoy last year, and since the reviews are mostly good I wanted to give this place a try. Dr. Wong is wonderful, she is very knowledgeable and helped me alleviate some headaches I was having from my previous optometrist making my prescription too strong. She met with me several times over a period of weeks to make sure I got the contacts that were the right strength and that helped correct my chronic dry-eye. She gave me several tips and tricks to stop the dry eye as well as trying several brands of contacts to find what works for me! I really appreciate her dedication to me as a patient and would highly recommend. The front desk secretarial staff has been easy and pleasant to work with as well! read more

I came to this Taraval Eye Care because it was extremely close to my house, so I don't need to go all the way across the city to the Kaiser Optometry Building. The staff and optometrists here are extremely kind and helpful, and each appointment is personalized. My glasses broke because of a weak frame, and I was so glad when Taraval Eye Care let me have a new frame for free! No copays or processing fees! This place is great! The staff is also very friendly and will tackle any problems or questions you may have regarding your insurance or coverage.
