I've been a patient here since 2012. Dr. Go (junior and senior) are like iron man and superman and the front office staff are like the avengers. They're respectful and most importantly, they just do right by their patients. Last year, one son caught pink eye, the other son had stye eye that turned into an infection. I've been wearing the same prescription glasses for over 4 years. I have a lazy eye on my left and my right eye is so strained and tired. I didn't know why my head hurts so much from reading. Dr. Douglas Go gave me a summary about lazy eye, and how it affects the good eye. My new prescription is perfect. Although it's bi-focal my reading is so much better. Less tense on the right eye. I didn't know much a new pair of right glasses will affect your daily life. The staff is not so pleasant. One of them went out of her way to get me a mask while everyone around me wasn't wearing one. It seems kinda odd. I kinda wish they were more inviting. A few occasions, I felt like I'm bothering them for asking them a question. I have been getting my eye examined here ever since the 8th grade, which means I have been a client for nearly twenty years. In a city that is constantly changing, how many business can say they've had the run this shop has had? Not many. How does this happen you may ask? Well, it goes without saying that this exemplary father son duo knows their craft. In my twenty years as a client, I've never had any complications with my eyes and they've always been very collaborative on how strong to make my contact lens and glasses prescriptions. I think my starting place is as a person who worked for years in public health. I understand it can be stressful but starting from the heart and being conscience of people's ethnic and economic backgrounds is important. It's also important to simply meet everyone where they are and move forward. We met Doctor Go and since my husband was a young child he didn't have great vision. He grew up in rural Mexico, it was an appointment he was putting off because (in medicine we should understand this) some people grow anxiety around their health when not taken care of immediately. My husband had zero resources to take care of this until we met, then we had a series of life events that put his blurred vision on the back burner, none of which were the doctors business. When I came to sit with my husband he rolled his eyes in a complete and obvious teenage fashion. It's my husband, he wanted me there and barely speaks English. Condescending is an understatement The first thing he asked us was why we hadn't come in earlier. I tried to explain this awkward question and was told it wasn't an excuse, and life is hard. Yeah ok thanks doctor My husband is tough but left in tears. I do NOT recommend this doctor at all. My husband and I are both kind and collected people. I can't think of a nicer man than my husband. I am very patient and nice particularly in medical settings. We did not deserve his obvious distain. He spoke in a tone meant for a child, well more barked. Try somewhere else. I really liked this place and had a great experience. So nice to find a doctor who takes my limited insurance. I had such a professional experience from the moment I walked in I was greeted and the people at the front desk quickly answered any questions I had. They even resolved an issue with my insurance. The appointment was quick and I liked that I did not have to do the eye puff with air instead they used a different machine. I also got my eyes dilated and chose a pair of glasses. My glasses will be ready sometime this month because they told me it would be a few weeks. So glad to find a good eye doctor. read more

I've been going to Dr. Go for the past two years or so and the service has always been excellent. He and his staff are very friendly and polite. The office is not super big, but they have a great selection of frames to try on. I've bought frames from them, but I've also brought my own. I have to start the review off right away with 3 things: -this office thankfully takes medi-cal patients -Dr. Go was very kind and informative. -with the chaos of covid, the office did a great job with taking on sanitary measures for the most part. I came here on a Friday morning for a 10:00AM appointment and it was not busy yet. Yay! Right when you walk in which by the way, the office is located inside on what seems to be a ground level Suite building, but is few steps to the right near the entrance of the building. I made an appointment for an annual eye exam to update my prescription, and also get back-up glasses as I am switching over to contacts. It was nice because instead of choosing a new pair of free glasses depending on your insurance, I was able to turn in my Ray Ban glasses for them to input new lens with the updated prescription. IF you decide to do this option, you have to sign a contract agreeing that it is not the lab's responsibility if something unintentionally goes wrong with your glasses. It took 3-4 weeks for my glasses to be ready for pick up at the office. I appreciated how the front desk took sanitary measures in having the plastic window barriers, and was fully suited with face shields and body suits. However, something I did notice which I hope changed by now after my appointment is pens. Maybe I should not assume, but I noticed the pen I was given was not sanitized...unless they sanitize the pens prior..not sure. It would be nice to do what some places are catching on to which is have a labeled jar of sanitized pens and then another labeled jar for used pens. Dr. Go was very very nice and carried on good small conversations on what seemed to get to know the patients a bit. He did a good job at sanitizing the machines as patients are to place their forehead and chin on the machines. I definitely would come back here again. read more

Furthermore, his warm appearance cultivated a sense of security and peace throughout the appointment. Always warm and welcoming and providing me clear options for glasses, contact lenses and general optical hygiene. Dr. Doug Go has also taken great care of me as well. Some optometrists that I've had in the past were not personable, but he is far from that. He has a sense of genuinely caring for their patients which creates a better therapeutic alliance and trust. While Dr. Go, is fine, the experience I had at this place leaves my blood boiling. Especially if you are a Medi-Cal patient; don't go here. Not only did it take almost two months to receive the glasses, when they told me they were ready I trekked the 30 minutes across town to get there and was told JUST KIDDING they aren't ready and asked me to wait at least another week. Why they called me multiple times to tell me they were ready?? No idea but I didn't appreciate the waste of my time or the rude office staff. Nevertheless, I got the glasses delivered after many issues there over a week later. Tried them on and they were definitely not the right glasses. They originally were meant for only blue light and were so magnified it caused nausea immediately. Texted Dr. Go right away, he said not to wear them. This is THANKSGIVING at this point, ordered the glasses in September. After another week, another optometrist emailed and said to just wear them to get used to them??? The other Dr. literally said not to. At this point I'm frustrated beyond belief, annoyed, irritated at the immense waste of time and money, and still without glasses. As I'm writing this, two weeks before Christmas, I am without glasses, without a proper eye prescription, and just angry that I ever patronized this establishment. Don't go here. read more

He explained everything thoroughly and would make professional recommendations, but not be pushy about what I wasn't comfortable with. Came here multiple times to get service done, first impression wasn't so great, but everything came together in the end. Dr Go is real professional & helpful. He is there to make everything work out for you, so if you are not satisfied, just let him know. My glasses didn't seem to work well the first time after testing for 1-2 weeks, I couldn't adapt to it, the vision on one side just did not balance with the other. One side was blurry. I notified him & he immediately gave me a thorough reexamination for a good fit, & now my glasses are fixed & perfect for my driving needs. I went in on a saturday afternoon for my new patient appointment. The elderly lady who checks in patients had a attitude, I dont know if its cause she doesnt like kids or what but she was looking at my daughter like she was carrying some kind of plague. My daughter is teething and I get it she was cranky (both of the my daughter and the receptionist.) She was telling me that my insurance was not going through I was telling her that I had just used it the day before shes like thats not true it doesnt work. I didn't see Dr. Go, I saw Dr. Service, who was extremely friendly, personable, funny, and thorough. Since I have a family history with certain eye conditions, he made sure that I had an eye dilation test (which I've never had in my life, but it's something I actually need), which is important because it allowed him to look inside to fully examine the health of my eyes. He also answered the many questions I had and he gave great relatable examples. Also, he was wearing a Mickey Mouse tie! Although I didn't see Dr. Go, he still greeted me and made sure that I had great service here. Honestly, you wouldn't get this experience at a big box or larger chain. Overall, I am very impressed by how personable and enjoyable my experience was. Another huge plus is that they accept Medi-cal. This is a rather rude place. I stopped by today to ask for their different service rates. I guess they didn't notice me standing there for over 15 minutes, asking for help and asking for information. There were two women SO BUSY gossiping with each other about someone else who works there but is stupid because she won't leave the guy she's with because she needs his money. SIGH, THE THINGS THAT MAKE THE WORLD GO ROUND! OMG! Who cares?!? After 15 minutes of awkwardly standing there, not being acknowledged or being skipped over, i left. Having been myopic since my tender years, and having visited many optometrists for everything from eyeglasses to contacts to laser eye surgery, I feel qualified to recommend this doctor. I'm going to give you three compelling reasons to visit Dr Go. 1. He is a nice guy. Why should this compel you? Because visiting a doctor is a very personal experience and doctors can often be stiff and opaque. Dr Go is patient and expository. He's succinct and he knows his subject matter so well that he sometimes sounds like a professor, explaining what you need to know in a clear way without bogging you down in medical jargon or talking over your head. He has never rushed me, nor been impatient with my questions, nor made me feel dumb in any way. 2. He is a good doctor. I went in recently with a strange fuzziness in one of my eyes. He ran a few tests and said that he thought I had an uncommon but non-serious condition concerning my retina. But to be safe he sent me to another doctor with more advanced diagnostic equipment for testing. That doctor (who bedside manner left much to be desired) ran me through two hours of computerized tests and fancy digital cameras and injections and multiple visits to tell me that Dr Go was right in the first place. 3. He cares about his patients. After many visits to him I genuinely feel that he cares about me. He sent me to another doctor for corrective laser surgery and lost a steady stream of income from me (no more contacts, no more bi-annual check-ups, no more back-up glasses, etc). His office in the mission and I've overheard him giving some of his poverty-stricken patients free services. I'm not suggesting that you should visit him because he'll give you a deal, but rather that he's an old-school kind of doctor in the sense that he actually cares about his patients and his community. If you're looking for the hottest, most stylish eye-glasses, you won't find them at Dr Go's office. But if you care about your eyes, want a doctor you can trust, and don't want a doc-in-the-box experience, you should definitely go to Go for your prescription and your eye-care. read more

I made my appointment for a Saturday two weeks out, and they gave me a friendly reminder phone call the day before.
