Saul greeted me right away and made me feel completely taken care of. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. But the true highlight was my exam with Dr. Avak. It's rare to meet a doctor who makes you feel like they genuinely care, but that's exactly how he made me feel. He took his time, explained everything clearly, and never made the appointment feel rushed. You can tell he's passionate about what he does and truly wants the best for his patients. Everyone I interacted with seemed committed to providing the best service possible, and it really showed. I visited Dr. Avak for the first time to get an eye exam and new glasses after mine broke. His staff was courteous, professional, and very helpful. Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Avak himself was the opposite. After completing all required forms, including disclosing that I have glaucoma and that I was declining treatment, Dr. Avak came out to the waiting area and abruptly told me he would not provide service. He stated that he "did not want to take the risk" of being blamed in the future, even though I offered to sign a written waiver acknowledging my refusal of glaucoma treatment. He refused to consider it and told me to leave. His assistant apologized and explained that it was his private practice and he could refuse service. While that may be true, the manner in which he handled the situation was unprofessional, dismissive, and unnecessarily rude. Patients deserve respect, clear communication, and reasonable accommodation -- especially when they are simply seeking a basic eye exam for glasses. My experience with Dr. Avak was deeply disappointing, and I would not recommend him based on his conduct. read more

Bad customer service, the ladies there have a huge attitude problem. When my wife called her on it they asked if she'd like someone else to help her and we agreed to come back in 15 minutes. We were helped so greatly! we walked out so happy,they told us the system was down (lie)but saw her anyways for a fitting and assured her the order will be taken care of and they will fill it. They had already decided they wouldnt fill the order. (It was a ploy to make us think everything was now good and they couldnt take a payment,because the next day they called and said they canceled the order) they lied just to get us out of there with no intention of helping my wife. They only took the workers side and didn't even ask us what had happened. We ordered a specific pair of glasses and for the fitting they wanted to use a different pair. We asked for the ones ordered so she can make sure she was satisfied with the color aspect and she refused to get them because it was more important to be "right" in the situation instead of just getting the glasses. She wanted to argue instead that it was the same model number. It's a really expensive purchase for us and we just wanted to make sure she can "live" with her decision because it would be a very long time before we could afford another pair. Disgusted. If they aren't valid for confirmation, why send them? I was so uncomfortable here I did not want to complete the visit. I made the appointment for an eye exam & dilation weeks ago. This is a lengthy review as there is a lot that isn't right with this business so sorry for the length but it is helpful and might save you the trouble. Here's what went wrong: 1.) Jessica, office staff behaves immaturely, unprofessionally, arrogantly and irrationally; devoid of logical reasoning & quality customer service. 2.) The Optometrist, Serge Avak touched as in came into unnecessary physical contact with me; at least 3 times, he reached out, and patted and touched my arms and shoulder. Saying that everything is alright; I'm alright. I don't know why he did this as I was not outwardly expressing any emotions to warrant this strange unprofessional behavior. This made me extremely uncomfortable and anxious. 3.) The Optometrist excluded symptoms I have been experiencing on the printed report. I informed him of the physical symptoms which were: Blurry Vision, Double Vision; diplopia and Nystagmus (involuntary eye movements) occurring for 10 months & counting and mentioned it may have been due to a previous medication I was taking or not. 4.) I phoned & spoke with Jessica 2 days after the visit to inform her of the excluded data listed in number 3. Her answer: You can come in and see him but it will cost you $25. This is price gauging and he made the error when omitting data while I was in his office. He put instead that I was there for an annual exam; that wasn't the reason and he was informed of why. Told him I'm seeing a neurologist for these symptoms too and that the neurologist will need to see his report. 5.) While speaking with Jessica I heard his voice in the background, $25 dollars it will be $25 dollars as I repeated he didn't do his work in full at the time of the visit therefore he should correct the error/omission; she refused to discuss it. 6.) He omitted some important findings and concerns in his report. (He said I had a bubble on my left eye but didn't document it unless it's there and I'm not seeing it) I kept asking what that meant he refused to disclose the meaning to me. I stated to him more than once during the rushed appointment scheduled close to a month earlier these concerns. He did not address them. 7.) Told him of the Nystagmus and how concerned I am about it he told me not to worry and then asked how often it occurs; I answered multiple times daily. He stopped speaking and moved on with the visit. This isn't what should have happened. He should have addressed it and questioned me but he was on some mission to hurry up and get to the next person. 8.) Quoted wrong numbers: I informed them when I made the appointment weeks earlier that I am paying by cash; do not have vision insurance & needed an exam INCLUDING dilation. I clarified this more than once when I made the appointment while inside of the Target store. At appointment date earlier this week on September 9, 2020 it was $92. As he rushed me out of the chair and out into the waiting room I asked him about the dilation. He said you want to be dilated? He said that he only dilates depending on his findings after his examination. I politely told him that with all the changes in my eyesight (which he blamed on age) over the past year I stated this when I made the appointment. I also told him my doctor insisted I have my eyes dilated, pressures checked and an exam due to the vision changes I already mentioned. He said okay and did it. He said I was disease free in my eyes. 9.) Time to pay. I tell them what I was quoted and she says its an additional $30 for dilation. I told her about that being included in the exam as I was informed when I made the appointment; she said no. I repeated myself and she adjusted to remove $8 from the bill. 10.) I asked today, Friday September 11, 2020 when speaking with the rudely behaving Jessica where to find the "PD" reading (the distance between two eyes measurement) & she said I had to let him know at the time of the appointment if I wanted that. I'd be charged $25 now to have it done. I asked where the policy is for this; she ignored me. I think having an eye person inside of a Target is a great idea however this is the wrong person and people. I took a tally of all of the people as in customers in this office and that the Optometrist took into his office and there were several in just 1 hour. No wonder he rushes people in and out so much. This is a cash-cow operation. Shame on this entire office. You should be ashamed of yourselves for your immature and nonprofessional biased behaviors. I am a person with disabilities and your inappropriate behaviors negatively impacted them. I did not see any area within this office that this is disability friendly; no blue and white signs anywhere. When I was taking pictures for this Yelp listing I was informed that isn't allowed. Wonder why? This needs to be corrected. read more

I had such a good experience here this afternoon. I need a new eye exam and prescription and called and they were reasonably priced (cheaper than Costco) and they were able to see me within a few days of calling. I came a few minutes early and was greeted and was seen within 5 minutes of arriving. The staff was so nice and the doctor (Avak) was extremely kind and knowledgeable. He made sure to explain what he was doing and was easy to communicate with and he was very quick as well. I made sure to ask for my PD so I could buy sunglasses online and he was very kind about it and remembered to measure that before I left. I seen a lot of luxury brand glasses as well as target brands and see they usually tend to have some sort of discount. Also if you wait and sign up for target optical you can get $25 off your glasses. I will definitely return and enjoyed my experience. I have to lower my rating. I still appreciate how kind and professional the ladies are out front. The Optometrist was also very professional. The issue is that I've had my eyes tested twice there and I still see double. Unfortunately it is past the cutoff to get another exam as I have taken so long to return them again as had an illness/death of a parent and I was hospitalized in the icu shortly after. I am lowering my rating AGAIN. After seeing an eye doctor at Target twice and still seeing double with the glasses that I bought there, I went to another Optometrist. They figured out that I was seeing double because my prescription required prism. Why couldn't Target's doctor figure that out, after seeing me twice? So now, I am out the original amount that the Target eye exam cost, a new eye exam with the other Optometrist, the cost of the lenses that I got at Target, and the cost of my new lenses. My lenses cost a lot-I REALLY can't see well. When I wrote to Target about the situation, their reply was that Optometrists working at Target are not really part of Target, so there was nothing they could do to help me. read more

The ladies and gentlemen that had helped me pick glasses were really nice too and explained to me why I should get certain lenses. I ended up getting two glasses and one pair of sunglasses. Went in for a pair of glasses. I got my prescription from them, everything went smoothly. I also have eye insurance so I was hoping to get a decent price. I found a pair of glasses I really liked, and they quoted me $280. They said my insurance doesn't work with the promotion they were offering me. $280 sounded a lot for one pair so we told them we would shop around for a better price. We were pretty clear that we were looking for the best price, & we're on a budget. I went home and did some research online. I called the target optical 1-800 number and got help from customer service. They took my insurance, and promo codes...I got the SAME PAIR of glasses for $108 over the phone!!!! The person in store acted like $280 was the best price they could offer me. I'll bet they are working off of commission. Really not cool to not offer your customer all purchasing options. They are not honest in store. I would recommend trying the glasses on in store and getting the frame number you like then buy the glasses on their website or calling customer service to complete a purchase. Do not purchase in store, they will rip you off to line their own pockets. read more

Was shopping in Target and had a problem with my glasses. One of the screws fell out and the lens came loose and almost hit the floor. So seeing as how there was an optical center in the store I asked if they could fix my little problem. I was told they have kits for sale which have some screws in them along with a little screwdriver just for fixing this sort of problem. WOW!!! I have been looking for some new glasses for weeks and weeks without any success. I have been nearly everywhere in Modesto. I decided to give Target Optical a try and I'm so glad I did! I found 2 pair of designer frames that I absolutely LOVE! Oakley's & Ray Ban's for a fraction of the cost at an optometrists office! I was greeted by Bekah who walked me through everything, helped me find the perfect frames for my face, set me up with an exam appointment and made me feel like I was the only person in her store. The service could not have been more welcoming, professional and thorough. She even replaced the nose pads on my husbands glasses and gave them a good cleaning. Came in to get information on prescription glasses, the lady working here was sitting in the middle of the room in a desk. didnt ask me if i needed help until i asked what would be a better deal and she was answering me from where she was sitting at, i had more questions and it took about 5 before she got up and come across the room to where i was. Went in to get contacts for the first time. Everyone was nice initially. Doctor is very friendly and helpful. Whole process to get an exam and buy contacts took less than 20 min. I had bought colored contacts, and they said if I didn't like them, I can return them. Didn't end up liking them and tried to swap them for clear ones. They said they couldn't return them because the box was opened. Not sure what they were expecting to happen. I'd try them without opening the box? Makes sense. I ended up wasting ~$50. read more
