Some also have water and electric hookups and/or lake access. Each is in a loop near a bathhouse with showers, toilets, and sinks, with hot water. Bathhouses were definitely wiped down every day, but not deep cleaned by any sense of the word. There are water spigots and trashcans dispersed throughout the loops as well. The campground also has a beach with a roped off swimming area and a playground. The one big downside here is you don't really know the condition of your site and the shared amenities until you get here. For instance, some sites are definitely on more of a slope than others, and I saw several when walking around that I would be upset to pitch a tent on. Also, the bathhouse closest to our site was out of commission "indefinitely" which was disappointing. There was another we could use nearby, but we specifically picked a site near the bathhouse, and it was not indicated anywhere online that this bathhouse was no longer in use. So things like this can be less than pleasant surprises. Regarding privacy and noise levels: some sites are closer to each other than others, and some have denser tree cover than others, but broadly speaking, I've never been upset about the level of privacy I get. As long as you have relatively courteous neighbors, it's not bad for a public campground. Theres at least a couple yards between each site. I didn't see a ton of camp hosts or park rangers roaming when I stayed, but I'm sure there's someone you could call if you had to make a noise complaint or something. When we stayed most recently. North Carolina was under a statewide fire ban. This includes campfires. Unfortunately, this was not enforced at all within the campground, which I found incredibly irresponsible. People weren't even trying to hide their fires, so a quick lap by a host or ranger right as it was getting dark would have been enough to spot those violating the ban and educate/warn them. You don't think of forest fires starting at lakes, but really it can happen anywhere.

Would be nice if web services were updated. My navigator had me using...pretty silly for such a well educated town. Some web sites still exist. The visitor info center and a major hotel could not explain rationale or whether expected to return. The White House and congress should take lessons in leak avoidance from Durham's leaders.

I'm pretty sure my tax…read moredollars as a resident of Durham (downtown at that) and the fact my employer contributes a major portion of BCC's operating budget so employees like me can utilize it are reasons this service is paid for and can be complained about. They've been trying to improve it by simplifying to the route to eliminate how confusing and nonsensical it was and removing the transit station stop to eliminate delays. However, it is still very delayed and the service is awful. I've tried using the bus probably a dozen times to get from Duke Hospital to downtown and I often find myself waiting 30-45 minutes. One time I literally waited so long that I started walking the two miles from the hospital to my apartment. I walked along the same path the bus takes and didn't even see a bus pass me during my walk. This wouldn't have been bad if it wasn't 98 degrees in the hot summer sun and I was in work clothes. The "average" time might be 17 minutes (doubtful), but what usually happens is the buses are so poorly planned that the two buses are literally 3 stops away from each other. So often times you're waiting a long time for the bus and another one will be right behind it. This is absolutely useless, makes no sense, and a waste of having two buses. The bus stop running at 9pm on Saturdays, which doesn't suit how much downtown Durham is growing into a cool night spot. The bus drivers are also not very helpful, they're as brusque as transit operators in a city 10x the size of Durham. Once I was walking from Sam's Quik at night and trying to catch the bus, but there is a big gap in between stops around there. A bus passed by and I had to chase it all the way to the stop across from Whole Foods on Main St before they would pick me up. Thank god for red lights! I've never seen a small city bus driver so rude that they knew you were trying to get on their bus, but tried their best not to pick you up. It was also super crappy because there's no sidewalk on that area of Main St so I was literally running in the dark through the mud to catch this bus. In summary, BCC's has bad service, the buses are poorly planned and right behind each other, and expect to wait a long time for a bus. Durham, fix this situation because it is a joke. If you need an example of what works, the R-Line in Raleigh is great and much loved.

Brought us right to the beer fest and we saved alot of money. I had a friend that tried to take uber home and it was 2 time the normal rates, because of the demand after the beer fest. So happy we took the bus! If i ever need a ride home from Durham again i will be taking this bus!

This is not your typical review…read more I (we) have been bringing our 6th or 7th Graders here for 14 of the last 18 years, for our 'end of year' field trip. There is a huge field, just right for kickball, soccer, touch football, softball, volleyball (nets provided), Frisbee, water balloon fights, kite flying, and... well, just about anything else you can think of on a wide open, cleanly mowed field. Down the lane apiece, there is a pond, and a nice hike around it. Next, there is a swimming pool. A nice one (shaped like a giant scallop, with the deep end by the hinge). They staff it with three lifeguards - one at the shallow end, two at the deep. Oh, and the lifeguards require the kids to 'prove' their swimming ability before allowing them in the deep area. Good call! There is an area under the trees with swings, a slide, and a number of other goodies - all underlain with enormous amounts of mulch. Kids have to try pretty hard to get hurt there, if they fall. Finally, there is a pavilion with perhaps a dozen or so picnic tables. At the far end is a small kitchen, with a sink, several refrigerators and a microwave. (This happens to be MY favorite space, since the weather under the roof is always AWESOME. ) The fine folks that run the camp usually show up within the first hour (or two) that you're there. They're really laid back, and always ask if there is anything that you need. They tend to come back before you leave, to hand you the billing for the day. They're happy to take PO numbers... but we've been visiting for so many years now, that I really don't remember what it was like the first year or two. It's readily apparent that they expect you to come back year after year. Yeah, it's THAT good. We've already scheduled next year's visit. Does that tell you how we feel about this place?

They have tons of information about things you'd never have guessed even existed (come here if you're bored with the local food scene and want to find something new) in an easy-to-find format. The staff isn't always the most friendly though... Sometimes they come off as kind of distant, not exactly the most welcoming.
