OK, this is in part in response to the other reviews--which seem a bit unfair to me. Yes, the place is hard to find. Yes, they have weird hours. Yes, the owner could be friendlier and more helpful. Yes, the prices are a bit marked up. BUT, at least the place exists. If you or someone you love is in need of some of these supplies in order to stay at home after an injury or due to old age, then this place is great to have nearby. Sure, you can order most of this stuff online for cheaper, but here you can look around and actually hold the supplies before spending money on them. And you may see other things that would be helpful as well. As far as returns, I bought a basket for a walker that didn't work out and had no problem returning it (exchanged it actually). I hope this place stays in business, because caring for an elderly neighbor is going to have me coming back, I'm sure. read more

Difficult to find- there's no sign along the road and the building has no store front sign. Difficult to work with- Sales clerk was rude and seemed inconvenienced by my presence. There is no up to date Point of Sale system. They literally wrote my credit card number down on a post-it. Rental was broken- We rented a scooter for my husband who broke his foot. The scooter was broken and welded back together. The clerk didn't know how the scooter folded up (to fit in a car) and had no interest in helping me figure it out. Difficult to return equipment- Odd office hours. I was charged extra because I couldn't get by when they were open to return the scooter. When the clerk called on the last day of the rental, I told her I had tried to return it and the store was closed (during normal business hours) and I was met with attitude and additional charges. read more

This is one of the worst-run business I have ever dealt with. Not only is it in a terrible location, but the staff is rude, disagreeable, argumentative, and either incapable or unwilling to actually help sell you the supplies that you need. I would give it zero stars if I could figure out how to do so. I went in looking for a basic supply, one that I was instructed to use by my doctor and the woman working there proceeded to argue with me and tell me that I didn't need it and implied that I was an absolute idiot for not knowing that. read more

I really try to support local family owned businesses. It amazes me, however, that this place is in business considering the combativeness and lack of respect spewing from employees. My most recent visit will be my last. At this particular encounter, the employee clearly had beef with an elderly man who was inquiring about a roller chair for his wife. The employee was annoyed by a return policy question and walked away from him to attend to me. When she, who reeked of cigarettes btw, asked what I needed I told her to please continue working with the man. She ignored my politeness and said, "If you're not going to tell me what you want - leave and take this 'retard' with you." Recently my wife sprained her ankle. I was at work when we decided on a treatment plan which included crutches and an ankle immobilizer. I was working at the time, but I was sure she would be able to get appropriate medical-grade equipment. I found Tarheel Medical Supply as a local DME provider. My wife was able to find acceptable products at this store, but when she sent me a message about the price I found the prices were 50 to 100% more than comparable items on Amazon. My wife did pick up crutches, but when we got home they were not an appropriate size. We tried to return the crutches, but the owner literally yelled "no returns on opened packages!" She then berated us about understanding return policies and she pointed out the door. I asked if she knew of anyone that could use them, or if she would be interested to take them back at no cost. She again yelled an explanation that this was also impossible. I understand some medical supplies can be undesirable for return, but I was in complete shock when, even upon explaining they had never been used she would make no exception or concession. She was not in the least apologetic or empathetic to our situation. I expect more from any business and would recommend using any other supplier if at all possible. read more

So if I could give 0 Stars I would in this case. I recently rented a knee scooter from Tarheel Medical Supply. On the day I rented it the owner's mother was working and told me very little about the scooter itself. I asked her if the handlebar was collapsible and she told me that it was not. The day after I had surgery on my foot I was using the scooter and my home and the handle bar collapse causing me to fall and injure my knee and tear muscle and cartilage in my thigh. This made it impossible for me to use the knee scooter anymore. Today when I was finally released to be able to drive I brought the knee scooter back to the medical supply store and spoke with the owner about what had happened. She was less than interested in knowing that I had been injured and made the excuse that the scooter was one that they bought from someone today when I was finally released to be able to drive I brought the new scooter back to the medical supply store and spoke with the owner about what had happened. Incredibly rude staff. Horrified by the complete lack of service. As a medical professional I have worked with many medical supply stores and this is the worst by far. I will travel to Durham or Raleigh to avoid this business. read more
