Unbelievable to witness this place rebound time and again, storm after storm, flood after flood. Not to mention the incredible amount of responsibility placed upon this family run hospitality business. Anyone looking to support a quiet waterfront community should certainly consider this gem. Parking in navigation can sometimes be tricky. So consider utilizing the paid parking and security offered by the Pineland Marina Safe Harbor next-door. The twisty windy Road past the historic post office, the Randall research center, and all the grounds of this archaeological treasure trove is worth the drive. But I would not encourage anybody to bike or walk due to limited unsafe pathways and frequent flooding. But once you find your sweet parking spot and don't have to worry about anything. Have lunch at the tarpon Lodge and then walk all through the community of pineland and gaze upon this country club-esque neighborhood that is anchored by an abandoned golf course. Local wildlife is rebounding in this potential preserve. Bird watches especially have opportunities to check rare sightings off of their ornithology list. Including spring time elusives like the Chuck Wills Widow nightjar, white pelicans, juvenile bald eagles looking for their life mates, pileated woodpeckers and so much more. And if you're lucky and you play your cards right, a local might give you a couple fishing tips and some secret spots. So always have a fishing pole and bait ready. read more

First trip to the Tarpon Lodge for dinner. We we surprised by how beautiful the location was, located on the water at the tail end of Matlacha. The dining room was lovely with comfortable chairs, white tablecloths and great views of the water. Service was outstanding from our waitress to the waitstaff, everyone was pleasant and helpful. Food: apps were good, crab and corn chowder was tasty (a bit strong on the sherry) but a cup was the perfect size. Shrimp cocktail looked great and got rave reviews at the table. Mains, hits and a miss, Filet was outstanding as was the Airline chicken and triple tail filet special ($49!). Miss, skirt steak was undercooked and tough. Ask for it med. We passed on desert. She had the best sangria she said she's ever had. My husband had the bourbon signature drink of theirs. ... Donna at the bar, knows her stuff. Because we requested the table in the corner by the fireplace, which is also in the lounge, she was actually a pleasure to have serving us as well. From the soup to the entrée to the most amazing desserts, this place will always remain our favorite - filet mignon (10 out of 10) - house made dessert - all of them were good, but the Keylime pie was off the chart (15 out of 10, if you will). Amazing bread- cranberry nut bread and a French/style bread served with peppercorn butter with olive oil Crab and corn chowder- very buttery, corn-forward with decent chunks of crab in it. Don't ruin it with the crackers they offer, it doesn't need it! Very craveable. Shrimp and grits - creamy with a great spicy andouille. Catch of the day- Triple Tail, mango salsa, coconut jasmine rice, and asparagus. Perfectly cooked, soft fish and moist rice. Great ratios of everything. Food was really good, patio is super nice. The only thing I can't stand about this place is the straws. Paper straws are something only the devil himself could have created, and anyone who sells them must worship him. Service was great as well, but the paper straws ugh. I had wanted to eat at this place the last time we stayed out in Bokeelia. On this visit I got the chance. We got here early for our 8pm reservation and grabbed some drinks at their outdoor bar and wandered out to the dock to watch the sunset. We eventually made it inside and were seated at a nice table in the covered and AC'ed patio. Our waitress was a delight. I ordered a cup of their crab and corn chowder which I liked alot. All of us ordered the red snapper special of the night. Unfortunately my fish was overcooked and dry. Very disappointing for such a nice place that should know how to cook fish. I should have sent it back especially at $40! Great setting and service but the main dish was a downer - I expected much better. read more

Tarpon Lodge on Pine Island continues to exceed every expectation. This was my second stay, and it has firmly become my go-to resort in Southwest Florida. The hospitality is truly unparalleled -- every staff member makes you feel welcomed and appreciated from the moment you arrive. Ownership (Rob) is obviously geared toward making guests feel welcome, and his staff reflects it. They all seem to really love their jobs...old school service with a smile. The property is exceptionally clean, beautifully maintained, and full of old Florida charm. The food is outstanding, and the ambience is peaceful, relaxing, and authentic. Our family had reservations here to celebrate multiple birthdays. We arrived early and were directed to the bar area to wait. We all ordered cocktails, and the bartender did not seem quite comfortable behind the bar (unsure about certain brands of liquors and wrong garnishes on drinks). We then sat inside. Our waitress was super pleasant and on top of things. Food was delicious. The deconstructed bruschetta is a must get for the table. The goat cheese was super creamy. Also, the smoked fish dip. Great flavor and good toppings. I ordered the jumbo lump crab pappardelle. Lots of crab meat and a big dish to order. Everyone at the table who ordered the catch of the day was very pleased. What a lovely place to spend our anniversary and last night on our spring break vacation in Florida! Our server was lovely and attentive. The food was delicious. We had the Bronzed Pink Gulf Shrimp appetizer - interesting and yummy! I had the Blue Crab & Corn Chowder and the catch of the day - red snapper with rice and mango salsa. The soup - perfect! The rice was a little boring, but the fish and salsa were a lovely combo. I had order envy - my husband got the scallops prepared with carrot puree and baby carrots. So delicious. Such amazing memories from my childhood this place has been around for many years. Had the privilege of taking my two adult children and son-in-law to dinner here last night. The ambience was incredible and the service was great and the food was superb. We had requested the shift to make something off the menu as my son doesn't eat certain things. The Chef did not disappoint! He made an amazing chicken dish minus the bacon. The dessert(s) were delicious. Donna served our table and she was fantastic! When we go again, I hope she's working. Highly suggest Tarpon Lodge restaurant do not go if you're in a hurry. It's just a great place to wander around before and after your meal. Prices up-quality and service down. The Tarpon Lodge and Restaurant used to be our go-to for special occasions and when we had family and friends visiting from out of town. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to the restaurant. The first thing that we noticed was that the menu prices had gone up significantly. I have always ordered the filet mignon (6oz) dinner which was always of high-quality and highly satisfying. But now the price has gone up for the dinner, and the size of the steak has diminished, and the quality of the food is not nearly as good as it was a year ago. My husband and mother-in-law ordered the special which was red snapper stuffed with crab, cheese and spinach. Both of them said that you can barely taste the crab and the red snapper was too burned on top. When I asked my mother-in-law how she liked the food her response was it was OK. Also, the service was subpar. Once again, like I said before, we have been to the restaurant many times and always had great service. Today it seemed like nobody wanted to do their job. Finally, the restaurant was nearly empty, which is the complete opposite of what it used to be. Even our server expressed to us that it has been really empty. Now we know why it's been empty. I truly hope that management will make some changes and get back to the way the restaurant used to be. read more

Here is my experience with Tarpon Lodge. I did a mapquest to get directions, and found that it was 18 miles and 45 minutes away. I noticed that there were quite a few turns after leaving Stringfellow Road. I called, and asked if I could drop by and see what the ambience was like, as we will be dining out for our 27th anniversary. I asked if it would n easy to find, from Stringfellow. The woman said, don't worry, just look for the signs. I started driving, and driving, until I reached the end of Stringfellow, on the Pine Island Sound. There never was a single sign. I found a woman who had just pulled up by the beach. She told me that I had to go back about 5 miles to find my turn off. I eventually found the road, and proceeded through some old sketchy neighborhoods, eventually seeing some decrepit white buildings. I pulled into a parking lot, where I saw a white haired geezer (I say that as a senior citizen) sitting in a white wooden chair. He asked if I had reservations (this was 4:45 on a Saturday afternoon, hardly prime time(. I said no, I was just there to look around, regarding a possibility for our anniversary celebration. He then told me that I could not park in the gravel parking lot, and would have to park across the street, hundreds of yards away. (there is nothing but bushes on the other side of the street, with a small clearing. This place was really in the boonies.) I then said that I would only be about 10 minutes, or so, He was adamant that I could not park there. Of course the lot was nearly empty, but he wanted to be a PiITA. I pulled out of the lot and never looked back. read more

My Dad took my wife and I there for our Anniversary. Beautiful location, the inside was lovely with the setting sun coming in through the many windows facing the water. My second time here because the food was so delicious the first time! This time we decided to actually stay here for the weekend as well. We chose the Cottage, one of two quaint waterfront houses they have on the property in addition to their standard lodge rooms. HIGHLY recommend if you're looking for a place to stay in Pine Island with gorgeous sunset views and you're own space. The Cottage is spacious and just walking distance to the dock and the restaurant. Must haves on the menu are definitely the Burrata cheese which has a tomato foam and white balsamic caviar on top! Probably one of my all time favorite cheese dishes ever! Also the blue crab and roasted corn chowder is delicious and a house specialty! The staff went above and beyond for our stay and I would highly recommend this lodge for a peaceful weekend getaway. read more

Gorgeous view and quiet location are a great start to the Tarpon Lodge experience. The service and food were excellent and I'd love to come back. I came here with a group for lunch and was able to sit on the beautiful patio. All meals were excellent and the restaurant feels like old school Florida at its best. If you are looking for an upscale restaurant with a casual and comfortable atmosphere I highly recommend. The corn chowder app is hard to beat and they have a variety of dishes that include local Gulf shrimp and lots of fresh veggie options, including the farmers market salad. read more

Lovely venue and the food is delicious. Accommodations available and a very nice location for weddings/showers or birthday parties. Live music on various days, and dockage for your boat if you travel over water to visit. It feels remote, but the drive is pleasant. Service is attentive, and the decor is charming. Today was our first visit since Ian, and it's heartbreaking to see the destruction on Matlacha. But rebuilding is coming along, so I highly recommend the drive and patronage to the shops that are reopened along the way. I doubt you can go wrong with anything on their menu. The Tarpon Lodge is a beautiful setting, our group arrived just in time to witness another dazzling Pine Island sunset. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. The dining room we were in was crowded and noisy making conversations somewhat hard to hear. It took a while for our dinners to arrive, all dishes were beautifully plated. I ordered the Shrimp and grits with Chorizo and bacon. The reason for the 3 stars is this particular dish was not even close to what you might expect for $32. There were 5 overcooked tasteless shrimp. They were cooked elsewhere and placed on top of the sauce, about as many thinly sliced pieces of Chorizo that were also overcooked elsewhere, again not in the sauce, I couldn't eat the Chorizo it was that bad. The 1/3 cup of red grits were unfamiliar to me, and I didn't care for them either. I also never saw any bacon, so I'm not sure where in the dish it was. After dinner we caught the last few songs from the Jug Creek Band outside, which was very nice. Love the Tarpon Lodge, love the location, but I would definitely not recommend the Shrimp and Grits. read more
