La Familia Taqueria - What I got

The food was okay and definitely not bad, but it didn't really stand out as anything exceptional for me especially given the exceptional reviews. I am a big fan of Mexican food, so I have a high bar. The burritos were fine and filling, but the flavors didn't quite wow me the way I was hoping based on the hype. Overall, it's a decent option if you're nearby or craving some Mexican food. It's located in a parking lot of a gas station and there is another food truck next to it. Service is fairly good, they are efficient.

La Familia folks will do up all the usual, tacos, burritos etc. custom when you order. Tacos are on the small side but good. Got the al pastor and carne asada. Some sliced radish, onion, salsa and hot hot jalapeño peppers come as the sides or garnish. The fellow taking the order was helpful and nice. Another person cooks it up for customers. Service was courteous. An enclosed outdoor tent with long benches and small tables is directly next-door to the truck. Maybe this is typical? Extra star for such an accommodating pleasant set-up at a quality taqueria truck in the middle of quasi-suburbia.

I had a really nice chat with one of the owners there and they all seem like really lovely people--kind hearted with little kids around so hopefully they stay around for some time! They were still redoing the front of house so not sure when they will open fully but looking forward to trying more Azerbaijan food. Since I've never had Azerbaijan food before, I asked for a recommendation and he said all of the food is good but did say that the chicken shawarma was big and I was feeling a bit hungry so went with that. It came with fries and some peppers, which reminded me of banana peppers. Not spicy with a briney taste to it, great accompaniment. He also tossed in this yogurt drink (I didn't get the name) that was tasty. Overall, good food and will be back to try their lamb kebabs and the burger as well and interested to see what their pizzas will be like as well. Love seeing small family businesses like this and hope they do well!

This is their most recommended dish and for good reason. Side of fries were nice and crispy too: I also tried the grilled chicken plate and that was pretty good as well. Again, good portion! On my first visit, they offered a drink for free and I tasted the Ayran (yogurt based drink). Friendly people. Next time, I'll try the Baku Chicken sandwich. Btw, it's in a small parking lot next to a restaurant, and you should have parking spots at the back. There always seems to be a decent crowd occupying the tables near the food truck.

The quantities are large and can be easily shared. Now soy chaap is one of the most unhealthy foods one can consume. It's made of processed oils, all purpose flour and bit of soy. But, it's widely consumed by vegetarians these days as an alternative to meat due to its meat like texture. I had some really outstanding soy chaap from a place in Fremont and haven't been able to find anything else that comes close to it. The version here though decent fell short on the flavor. The smoky aftertaste was kind of missing. The chow mein on the other hand was beautifully done. I can see why this place is rated so high.

Portions are 5/5, big enough to share. Fresh factor is 4/5, you can tell the bhalle have been batch frozen and then used, something I completely understand and agree with, because it wouldn't make sense to make fresh bhalle everyday. Taste 10/5 , flavors are big and engage your taste buds that really get you that satisfaction of eating a chaat item. Location: right on El Camino Real in a parking lot, but I imagine you park in the lots on either side is it get busy here on weekends. There are two large tables set up but one could always eat by your car too. Guy taking orders and making them is polite and soft spoken. And it's definitely a fun experience to pull up here late at night. Gonna go back and try the momos and burgers next.

Maybe they thought we couldn't handle the heat so requesting desi spicy next time. Equally delicious is their Dahi Sev Puri w/ potatoes, tamarind + mint cilantro chutney, yogurt, sev (8 pc - $7.99): https://tinyurl.com/2rvnu4k3 The crunchy shell (semolina-based) is filled with spiced potatoes, topped with myriad of sauces, crunchy sev (fried chickpea noodles), and something tart...reminiscent of pomegranate seeds.
