Inside is super cool and funky with lots of eclectic decor and good music being played. We were seated outside immediately and placed orders for wine, beer, oysters on the half shell and bruschetta. They ask what you like and don't like, then craft a cocktail specifically for you. The pours are generous and the bar is stocked with top-shelf liquor. About a drink and a half in, I realized I needed actual food immediately and had to leave. The staff was friendly, personable, and chatty, and because the space is so intimate, you naturally end up talking with the people around you. It just so happened that it was a short walk from my hotel, so we decided to check it out one night before heading to dinner. The Cloakroom is a speakeasy, nestled behind a hidden door in a men's clothing shop. In the line of being a speakeasy, the space is small - there are only 24 seats but since we got there right at opening we were seated right away. The space is dark and intimate, with the bottles of liquor lit up behind the bar providing an attractive focal point. One of the more unique features of the bar is that there's no menu; we told our server the types of liquors we wanted along with the flavor notes and they crafted a cocktail based on our tastes. We ultimately had two rounds; my first drink was vodka-based and fruity, while I went with something gin-based and dryer. Both were very good - there's little fanfare with presentation; the bartenders let the drinks speak for themselves. Service was great; due to the setup, each patron is given extra attention which really highlighted the experience. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at The Cloakroom Bar. We were greeted by the barman as we entered, who seated us and explained their cocktails and the menu. He was very friendly. I normally don't go for cocktails cause I feel that it's all ice and juice, but these were incredible! I had the Mexito, which I highly recommend and it's not too sweet and my friends had the Berry Nice and Peach Plz which they equally loved. We started with their variety plate that included their famous guacamole (it's famous for a reason), quesadillas, bacon wrapped jalapeno peppers and stuffed croquettes (my personal favorite). We had beer battered fish tacos (they've won best Montreal tacos in the past), Jack Daniels marinated beef tacos (my favorite), chicken and pineapple tacos and their homemade chorizo tacos.
