The owner responded to this review. He falsely claimed:…read more 1). That I was made aware that if my primary home was not insured, that Mathes Inusrance could not insure the vacant property. 2). The $1000 extra cost is exactly what was quoted to me. I even asked the agent a follow-up that restated the extra cost as, "So hypothetically, if I live in the house and my premium per month is roughly $100, what you are saying is that if the house is vacant the premium per month would be $185?" The response I got was that that was correct. The agent even said that coverage on a vacant home is more of a risk because they are viewed as targets for crime. 3). My review never claimed that I didn't understand that canceling policies would mean losing a bundling discount. That is easily understandable. I simply said that the agent I spoke with did not tell me that the vacant home policy would be canceled. He even made a point of telling me that Mathes would have to re-write my the policy on the vacant home, to which I replied that I was aware of that. My issue is that the agent first said Mathes would raise the price, and when that did scare me away the agent then said Mathes would cancel the policy, which seemed like an attempt to scare me and prevent me from canceling my policy. And, after all that, the agent then finally said that Mathes would have to re-write the policy. Again, I told him that I was fine with that. Feeling held hostage is just how I felt. Given this back and forth - we'll raise prices, we'll cancel, we'll re-write - I submit that my feelings are reasonable. Furthermore, the name of a reviewer is irrelevant. Pretending that it matters is just a way for a business that gets a bad review to attempt to discredit the review. Perhaps this business follows the insurance industry guidelines. That doesn't mean that they always tell the truth to their customers or that they conduct their business clearly and transparently. Throughout the cancellation process Mathes Insurance has provided me with poor customer service. The owner's reply, filled with false statements, is just another example.
