Nothing ever feels one-size-fits-all, which has been a very different experience from what we've encountered with other advisors. What we appreciate most is that JB explains things in a way that feels approachable and grounded, helping us make informed choices without pressure, judgment, or unnecessary complexity. We've always felt like he genuinely has our best interests in mind.

I had been investing with Schwab since 1996 after I left Fidelity for good reasons at that time…read more With a few exceptions I had been happy such as: marketing the Windhoven Fund with its 2% load (divide your return by 2% to see what the real load is); and how it treats elderly investors who get scammed because they developed a medical condition after using too many NSAIDs while under medical care. I got iNPH (so check the net). Schwab's agent decided to close my accounts without any means for me to explain myself. The agent went behind my back to contact Homeland Security and Massachusetts' elder affairs department. Yes, this agent went "by the book". The "client advocacy team" made its "business decision" without any personal input. I had a brain operation to fix the iNPH. Apparently, the "box checkers" at Schwab don't care. BTW: my other brokerage has not pursued the same procedures. So, Schwab's marketing effort to protect elder investors is just that ... a marketing gimmick. Please note: my experience is NOT with a local office although I did have 2 fewer than great experiences with a local office (but then who hasn't). My criticism (and anger) are for those at the corporate level who IMHO have added insult to injury. I can provide highly detailed information to anyone. I will be reporting Schwab to the authorities; however, I doubt much will happen because neither the FBI nor HSI has helped me recover my money.

I went to Charles Schwab in Chestnut Hill Square, not the one at 1262 Boylston Street. There were…read moretwo young women behind the counter. I talked to one of them. She was cold as ice and unwilling to answer questions. She looked at her computer and never at me when I spoke to her. It took her a while to get me an application form. I said I need to have some information. She asked brusquely: "What?" I asked her about opening a money market account and about the current interest rate. I asked her the difference between the two kinds of money market account they offered. Her answers were "I don't know. It depends." I have never met a staff of a financial institution treating customer in that manner. I did not get any answers I needed before opening an account. So I left.
