It is Tasmania's second busiest airport (after Hobart) and is located about 15 kilometers south of the Launceston CBD. Gayle and I were her to take a Virgin Australia flight from here to Melbourne. LST is small with 4 gates downstairs, easy check-in, straightforward security, and a few interesting shops. There's really no need to get here to early.

A tidy small airport just south of Launceston…read more No need to get here too early for the short flight to Melbourne-here's the scoop: -check in desk opens 90 minutes ahead of flight departure time, although people started lining up a bit ahead -there's only a handful of flights and they arre pretty spread out so it will be just the people on your flight and maybe one other in the large common waitting area where there's plenty of seating -inside security there's one cafe for premade sandwiches, coffee and drinks -there's also a nice store with wine, souvenirs, magazines etc -that's it -wait for your plane to be called then head dowwnstairs to the gates (there are only 4) -also, if returning a rental car, you've got to go inside to the desks in baggage claim

We kayaked across Dove Lake and landed on a beach. From there we walked around the path a short way…read morebefore kayaking back. Spectacular views. Only issue was having to wait an hour before getting in as there is a limit of 50 cars in the park at a time. The alternative is a shuttle bus but you can't shuttle bus with sea kayaks. Great fun and wonderful experience. I hope to come back to walk the whole thing next time!!

You get strapped into a harness and fly between trees. Moderate amounts of adrenaline. Very safe. Not for extreme sports people who are expecting lots of adrenaline but good views.

They have all sort of old farming, mining and communication machineries from the past 150 years. Some of the machineries were still in working condition. One of the highlights was the display of the Beaconsfield mine collapse when 3 miners were trapped underground for 2 weeks. The display gave us a idea on the size of tunnel and the rescue. We ended up spending about 3 hours at the museum and really enjoyed the experience.

Tons of closet space/ a comfortable sofa/ large bathroom. Very clean as well. My only complaint is that there is no lift! The reception had offered to carry our luggage up to our room but on a day when you come back from hours of hiking, the last thing you want is the further aggravate your knees from climbing the stairs to your room.

Stayed in this beautiful heritage property for one night. Everything looked just great until we…read moreturned on the heating ... barely warm, which was not good in Launceston's very cold winter period. Reported to the front desk and although they tried everything to get some heat going, the recently installed unit was not co-operating. Extra blankets and a couple of portable fan heaters did take the edge off the chill, but we were still quite cold. They did their best and it's a shame that this rather spoilt our stay. The room itself is quite spacious and well equipped. Very comfy bed, large modern bathroom with oodles of lovely hot water and a nice quiet area of town. Let's hope this problem is sorted before the next guests arrive.

The Old Bakery Inn advertises itself as "heritage accommodation" and that's exactly what it is…read more The building is fairly old and antique-looking, and situated in a central and convenient part of Launceston. The rooms are quite spacious for the price and feature insanely comfortable four-poster beds and surprisingly modern bathroom furnishings. The owners also have an adorable small dog that sometimes hangs out in the main lobby, and is super friendly and loves cuddles! (but be aware if you're allergic!) The major downside to our stay was that the advertising and the Inn's website led us to believe that breakfast was included in the room, but it was not. The breakfast served there is quite good, but for $17 per person, I have no doubt you could find better quality and a much lower price if you ventured out to a nearby cafe or bakery. Overall, a comfortable and reasonably-priced place to stay, central location that is within walking distance of several restaurants, pubs, and bottleshops, and classic, old-fashioned decor made for a very pleasant stay.
