After coming here regularly for a few years, I noticed a decline in some of the amenities. The showers don't work properly, there are a lot of complaints regarding water being too cold or too hot. The steam room has been closed for a couple of years because it doesn't work. Members are constantly slamming heavy weights on the floor which is especially annoying when there is a yoga class and stretching area next to that area. It has yet to be addressed. I do enjoy the fitness classes and the instructors are great. They have upgraded the weighted machines. read more

My sister pays for my mother's membership and they treat her really well but removed one star since when I was a member from 2012 through 2019 staff and other individuals there ignored me most of the time which I took personally. Membership is very expensive but fortunately my sister can afford it although I cannot on a job that pays $18/hr. I walk and workout in the house instead. First off, ignore the one-star "minimum" rating that Yelp requires to leave a review; in my opinion, Taylor doesn't deserve any stars. Second, when recently asked in an emailed survey from Taylor what I liked most about their Y, my comment was: "As a new member, that it didn't take me but a few weeks to see that your facility cannot maintain long-term its claim of inclusivity of beliefs, practices and faiths other than Christianity. Upon disclosure of said, the initial warmth I felt from staff and members quickly chilled to make Taylor enough of an uncomfortable environment for me to initiate the cancellation of my membership." My local 'Y'tour continues with Taylor being my gym the last 2 Saturdays for a program known as 'Starting strong'. I tried to attend the aforementioned at NW Cary but could not make it work with Football conflicts. Anyway, I am glad, because I enjoyed the program, Donovan, the facilitator, and Taylor. It is located off of Cary Parkway, appropriately on YMCA dr. There is ample parking and it is in 2 buildings. Building 1 is 2 floors, amorphous/cavernous, and houses 2 gyms, several biking/cardio, weights areas, raquetball courts, locker rooms, offices, in take desk. Building 2 is the Pool. Donovan, a 22 year employee, is a great representative, and Start strong is a worthwhile program. (Thx Donovan for the Taylor swag) Locker room is adequate but not as nice as its sister gyms. Ive been working out at Y's for close to 20 years and this is the best one. the weightlifting and powerlifting setups are wonderful, they have free weights up to 100 lbs, and have a lot of manual iso machines. Disclaimer- I actually like the concept of fitness. I LOVE our Y. First- the pools are fantastic, the classes are well priced and the instructors love what they do. They keep the facility clean and are kind and provide all necessary aids to help adults and kids succeed. Gyms- lots of working out equipment, they are constantly updating what is needed, the ladies and men's bathrooms/lounge are clean, with so many facilities in-house. Towels are included in the membership price. The staff in the main gym is phenomenal. Childcare runs about $15 a month and so well worth it. They have kid fit classes for 5 year plus, room rentals, family fitness, activities for families every month, celebrations over various festivals. It is the best, family-oriented, happy place out here. Love the Taylor Family Y! read more

A lot has changed since the last time I came here, because I use the facility several times during construction and that created a major problem. I still have a lot of good things to say about (some of) the staff and facilities, but I also had a bad experience here. Let me tell you the story. After working out here a couple of times I regrettably Came Upon an older employee that didn't really know what she was doing. She didn't know how to check me into the facility even though I've used it twice in the last few days. They were in the middle of construction and everything was a mess. She took my keys and said she had to make a photocopy of them. Nobody had ever done that before. She's still holding my keys walking around the building asking people how to get me checked in. It was very frustrating. But it was only the start. After my workout I drove off to wherever else and then realized that my car keys that I use when backup in Buffalo or missing. The same ones that have my tag on them that I had given to the old lady. She had never given them back to me. I went back to the facility 10 minutes before closing to demand my keys. A younger woman swore that there was no way they had my keys and that I would have to look elsewhere and also that she was not willing to look around the facility for me because they were closing in 10 minutes. The janitors let me back into the facility to look for my keys later. To no avail. After giving up I searched every inch of my car for the entire night in the parking lot. It was one of the most frustrating nights I can remember, because deep down, I knew the old lady had never given me back those car keys. I had no spare copies anywhere, so it was worth a lot of money for me to find them. I didn't sleep at all. Next morning, I went in, now over 12 hours late for my scheduled departure of NC. Several employees were very nice to me, and helped me look, others were less nice, and some got visibly annoyed at how extensively we were searching the facility, and assured me "if they were here, they would have turned up by now" and "none of our staff would have kept your keys, we are professionals. Could they be in your car?" As I finally gave up, and told the cute girls in the office I was giving up - hours later - one of them said "wait a minute... let's look one more time." So we marched back inside and did just that. Looked one more time everywhere. She went to lost property, nothing. Again (tenth time we'd looked). Then she found an old box with socks and trash in it, in a corner. "Maybe she thought this was the lost property..." She started looking in the box... "no, it's just socks..." I glanced into the box... and saw something shiny. I delved into the socks maniacally... and there were my keys. The woman had put my keys in a box of old socks in a corner, thinking it was lost property. While I had still been working out in the gym. She had also taken one of my YMCA tags off the keychain - which was nowhere to be found. The person that found my keys for me gets 5 stars. Actually 500 out of 5. The facility itself is a 5 star place. A few of the other employees get 4 or 5. However, the employees that cost me a whole night of trauma because they wouldn't take my word for it, and were in too much of a rush to leave the facility at night, score 0 stars. read more

We JUST joined the Y and I wish we had sooner! Currently I am a stay at home mom of 3 kids (3.5, 2 and 2 months-old). Being home all day, every day with them... well, was making me crazy. Price-wise, I'll start out by saying that in the past (like 5 years ago), I remember the fee for a single person being around $65 (and I thought that was outrageous)... for a family, we are paying $105/mo. and an additional $15/mo to use the nursery... and under this NEW PERSPECTIVE (as a relief from being around whining and crying all day long and keeping my sanity), this is such a reasonable fee! The nursery is able to be utilized 2hrs/day (parent must remain on premises). Figure you go to the gym at minimum 3x/week for 2 hours each session. 6 hours/week or 24 hours per month... even babysitting for 3 kids would cost way more than $120/month and this is including the membership... we're only paying an additional $15/mo for nursery, sign me UP! Speaking of the nursery, the security was really reassuring! When checking your child in, a sticker is printed out for both the child and yourself. This sticker is then scanned prior to leaving. The childcare rooms are divided according to age: infant to 18mo, 2-3, 3-5. I had a child in each of these rooms. There were a LOT of kids in each room but they had an appropriate number of staff in there as well. And speaking of the staff, they all have been so wonderful! Aside from the child care aspect, the only other part I've utilized is the "wellness floor". They have a great array of weight machines, free weights and cardio equipment. The treadmills are insane! You can watch any channel of TV you want, check your Facebook, watch netflix or what I like to do, go on virtual walks all over the world! Anything to pass the time, right? Another unique piece of cardio equipment is a lateral elliptical. Takes a bit to get used to but you really feel the burn. Looking forward to checking out more of this Y. Ok. To be upfront, I'm speaking as a mom who likes to exercise. This is definitely a facility that is geared towards family. This facility does not offer any Les Mills classes. I wish they did, but they don't. They offer Mossa classes, which are fine but not for me. That said, they are highly organized, clean, and safe. There are always several adults in the game room, and I love that I can check my kiddo in and not wait in line to do so. I appreciate that they check that badge numbers match before releasing your kid. My son has some special needs and it is especially important that the child care workers are patient and capable. I have been to some facilities where I have to wait in line to be scanned in (lookin at you, Kraft YMCA), which to me is beyond stupid. Here I can scan myself in and be on my way. I like the variety of classes and the instructors are capable and friendly. With the renovations being what they are they have clearly labeled where to go, so it's not a horrible inconvenience. Since they are really close to my house it's easy to come here, and they have plenty of parking. I'm not highly involved - I come in once or twice a week during the day when my son is in school, so don't need the child care except for the summer. So for my level of activity, this works. read more

My friends and I decided to play in the 4 on 4 6 ft & under basketball league. We each paid $70, which is pretty pricey, but figured having actual officials calling the game made the price reasonable. We've now played 2 games, here is a brief recap. Game 1: I've never been here before so I ask the front desk girl which court the league is on. She says she doesn't know, and without looking it up it turning to ask another employee 2 feet from her, she points us to a court. The court is wrong. We end up seeing a flyer that says court 1 and ask her were that court was. Lucky for us she knew where court 1 was. Anyway we see our opponents and are shocked to see that they have 1 player obviously over 6 ft ad another who is questionable. During the game the refs were horrible. One of our teammates was elbowed under eye in front of a ref and no foul called, but lucky for our friend he got to go get 7 stitches. Oh by the way YMCA, you might want to invest in a first aid kit, when people are bleeding all over your floor, please do not offer bathroom paper towels to stop the bleeding. Game 2: what do you know when we show up only to see another player obviously over 6 ft. Before the game we mention something to the league commissioner only to get it laughed off by him. Needless to say they killed us on the boards with Baby Shaq. On top of that the fouls called were somewhere around 5:1 in their favor. The refs who support the league are AWFUL. After the game, I spoke with the commissioner and complained. He basically asked me what I wanted him to do about the players over 5 ft. Here is a hint, DON'T LET THEM PLAY! The league is 6 ft and under. I will never play in this league and I hope this review keeps people from supporting the joke that is the basketball program at this YMCA. read more

After moving here we transferred to this Y from our former one. I should have went with my gut at registration when the noise was so loud the staff and I couldn't hear each other over the noise from the kids. It was Fall, and the place was a zoo. It was then I found out that schools here are year round, so there would be kids all year, all the time, no breaks. Yay. After a tour I think, well okay, the adult area is on the second floor, maybe this will work out. So the first time I get some free time I go in to work out. I love the inside walking track. Well don't you know the basketball courts are right under it, and since it was a warm day, the heat from below turned the track into a suana on its own. I decide to stop and go find a treadmill inside. Ha, they are all filled up, probably by adults wanting to get away from the heat. Second attempt to work out, checking the schedule for classes online first, I plan to attend a class, only to find it crowded beyond, since they only have one class at this level during the week, one on the weekend. Third, fourth, and finally fifth visits, always trying to find a class, they aren't that regular in the lower levels, the equipment isn't that special and not that plenty, considering that's the floor for the adults. BTW The women's bathroom smells. Everytime I would go in it reminded me of high school PE classes, and why I never showered there. I'm sure this is normal at gym's, but I hadn't had this experience at the last Y I was at. Being told by staff when asking about several machines and how they worked, to go schedule an appointment at a later date, because they expect you to sign up for one on one time, on a different date. So basically, you come in when you get some time, and you can't get help without an appointment? If I had that kind of in advance free time, I would, but I just can't. I kept paying for a gym membership that I just didn't use. This Y has large membership numbers, and yet they just raised their fees again. I decided to quit and bite the bullet, to find a private ADULT gym. I called and was told that I would need to go in person to quit as long as it was at least 10 days before my draft date. I come on the first of the month - because my automatic payment drafts on the 17th, more than 10 days ahead of time. But am told that they would still have to draft anyway, and I was still a member for 30 more days. Makes no sense. In sum: The memberships are pricey, especially for a single person. The monthly draft policy needs to be fixed. They raised their fees recently, but I didn't see that much new and inproved stuff on my last visit to merit the fees. They cater to families, plain and simple. Look, if I had little kids, I would love the place. Most of the good comments are about their day care anyway. read more

I've tried this gym mainly for the swimming, and have found it to be a decent place. I'm not a huge fan of the long, uncovered walk between the pool and the main gym since I like to walk back up to the gym to use the sauna and showers. I also find that lap swim is very hard to fit in at least half the weeknights, since swim team ends on (I believe) Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:15, but goes until after the pool closes (9pm) MWF. So on Tuesdays and Thursdays, lap swim in the evening is possible. On Monday, Wednesday or Friday, be prepared to be three to a lane in what, I feel, are narrower lanes than I'm used to swimming in. I wish the pool was open as late as the gym is, ten p.m. Other than that, I found that the staff was friendly, the premesis neat and tidy. I appreciated the free coffee station up by the locker rooms, and was really pleasantly surprised by the female's locker room, complete with a magazine and tv room stocked sitting room, a private mini-gym for women, a dry sauna, a wet sauna, and hair dryers (and good ones at that!) I did find the wet sauna a little disgusting because it was clear that the steam being created was from tap or some water source that I wouldn't even drink from-- very heavily chemicled, probably chlorine, and while I tried it the first time, I will stick to the dry one from now on and just come prepared with a spritzer body to mist myself down. For those who are interested in checking it out, they'll give you a short tour and several free passes. I believe the signup fee is $90, and then per month it's $32 if you're just looking to use the one YMCA, and $40 a month membership (which you can cancel with 30 days notice) if you want to use all the different YMCAs in the RTP area, of which there are many. The nice part, as explained to me when I actually took the tour of the Hillsborough Rd YMCA, is that the sign-up fee can be parceled out over the first four months you're a member; you can upgrade to use the other YMCAs at any time, as well as downgrade at any time. I personally found the Hillsborough YMCA gym to be nicer (although masseurs are only available in the men's locker room-- I get that the gym was founded for young men, but hell-- twenty-first century! Misogynistic much?) though their pool closes a half-hour or an hour earlier (but is at least inside the actual gym.) I also think that the Hillsborough YMCA has more available in terms of Yoga, but the Cary YMCA at least has a pretty impressive diversity of classes--even if there's only ever two yoga classes a day. I also felt like my questions were answered more clearly and with a much more knowledgable staff at the Hillsborough YMCA. read more

Our daughter is enrolled in aftercare at Cardinal Charter. We thought the staff was doing a pretty good job. However, when I arrived to pick up our daughter today her beautiful long hair had been cut short in two large areas. The worker who brought her to the car said I need to let my daughter know that aftercare is not a hair salon. This was very unprofessional. Really like this Y but I have to warn guys that the hot water in the locker room does NOT work - It didn't work as of late January and then it worked for a few days and now it isn't working again. Not sure why but is a major issue apparently. That said a lot of good equipment, clean facility, steam room, sauna, cardio equipment, weights, universal machines, etc. Good size gym with upper deck track - 15 laps to the mile. This place is great! Nice outdoor pool, lots of weights, machines and a ton of space. Showers could use an update, but the locker room is nice and open. Only weird quirk is that there is a separate check-in for the pool, but an outdoor pool with a bubble for winter swims is fantastic....I'm excited to swim outside in the earl morning this summer. read more

Get this!!! The Cary YMCA sets up memberships which are drafted month to month at an agreed price for a 12 months period. Therefore if you joined September 2012 your renewal with an increased fee ends September 2013. This week every member receives a letter stating that they've purchased 12 new treadmills and purchased a new sound system for the kids room and because of this they are increasing everyone's rate in April, regardless if its time for your yearly renewal. They also throw in 2 measly guest passes as if that will make members feel better about having to give them more $. What a crack pot ran type of business !!! read more

My review is mainly based on the wellness center. (cardio, track, weights) The gym is adequate in size with free weights separated from machines. There's only one of each machine which is less than what I'm used to but I found the equipment to be clean and up to date. There are plenty of staff who are very friendly and helpful. There's a small track above the gym 15 laps per mile, 3 basketball courts that have scheduled hours of pickup basketball. Generally 5:30 am, noon, and 8pm. The court is smaller than a true full court and is better utilized for 4 on 4. Pickup ball is pretty organized with people signing up on a list, 5 on 5, 12 minute timer, winner stays. I played in one of their adult men's basketball leagues a couple of years ago.(before I was a member) I'm under 6 ft and played in the general league (all heights, competitive). It was pretty well organized. There are 3 racket ball courts available. First come first serve or schedule in advance. The members so far have been pretty well mixed in age and ethnicity. There are all kinds of classes yoga, aerobics, etc that are offered one after the other. The Y is very family oriented offering kids programs and a place for toddlers to play while you work out. I haven't checked out their pool but there is an outdoor and indoor pool. The membership sign up fee is reduced by 50 or 40% depending on your income. The main 'con' for me is their hours of operation on Saturday (7:30-6pm) Sunday (1pm-6pm). It would be nice if they open earlier on Sundays. The weekday schedule is Great. Overall I recommend this Y if you're looking for a gym that offers a bit of everything. No gym is perfect, you can't judge a whole organization or gym based on one aspect or quality, you got to look at your individual fitness goals. For all the things they offer, the monthly price is well worth it. I also like that they offer volunteer opportunities and have Christian based values in running their facility. read more

I love the child care. It is terrific -- careful, structured, and fun. (I switched to this gym in part because I like the child care.) The gym is fine for my needs (which are not complex at all -- just cardio equipment and free weights), and the pool area is great. for little kids. It includes a big splash area and a toddler pool with a lifeguard, not to mention a big waterslide. I have done lap swimming here and it has also gone well. Terrific place! read more

I just wanted to let you know what a fantastic job your staff is doing. The Cary YMCA is truly a top notch facility. I moved out the area this past summer. I miss my Cary YMCA greatly! My new YMCA does not compare in terms of facility, instructors, class quality/formats/types! And child care you provided while I was working out was out of this world! It was pre-school quality. I can't believe the dedication of those staff members! They always remembered my daughter's name, helped with potty training, taught her songs! At our new Y it is just a room where children play unstructured...no potty training assistance and high staff turnover I tell my husband everyday that I wish I could uproot your entire facility and drop it down near our new house! The cool part is they allow my son as a member to sign out with my permission once he has finished his homework. Cary Family YMCA is the place to be if you want to work out and feel like you really belong. Their equipment is current and well maintained, their staff is friendly and knows how to expertly advise, and the facility is beautiful. My workout there tonight was amazing, as usual. It occurred to me, as a long-time member, that I had never publicly reviewed the Y - so tonight I am remedying that. I have been a member for 18 years. I go at least 5 days a week. I feel like the Y staff is family. Great family place, great workout location. I wholeheartedly recommend the Cary Family YMCA. read more

We have been members of the YMCA for a year now. Out of all the YMCA's in Wake county we prefer the Taylor Family YMCA. The staff is really helpful, family friendly and the pools are basically hair free which is really nice (compared to other public pools) The pool is also indoors in the winter time which means you can swim all year round. The kids really enjoy it here. With the toddler pool and slide too. The only thing I have to mention is that the changing rooms are not hygienic at all (expecially now in Covid times) since we became members I can honestly say I do not think it was cleaned once (and we visit different times of the day, basically every day) It smells like urine (even the ladies room) and lots of hair everywhere. You never see a cleaner and no smell of cleaning products ever. No mops ect in sight. I feel this is of utmost importance- this is probably why many moms do not let their children have a shower in the showers- too dirty. Please can you clean the changing fasilities, showers and toilets at YMCA Taylor Family. read more

In town for work. I'm a member in Nashville, TN. This Y is like most Y's. The staff were helpful and friendly. Very accommodating for me as a visitor. The wellness areas are clean and have enough equipment to get a good work out. Didn't use the pool but the area looks nice. I would recommend it if you like a family atmosphere. read more

Physician and lawyer parents: We sent our child here and he came home repeating this, "Does your mommy or daddy hit you?" Our 3 year old asked us what this meant over and over. It was difficult to hide the alarmed looks that washed over our faces at dinner time after the second day of Kinder Camp. We asked our son who said that to him and he told us his teacher with the red hair. We were left with no choice but to explain the topic of abuse to our innocent little one since brushing the matter off at that point would have eroded trust. It scared our son badly that such a thing as abuse exists. He should not have had to learn that it does at such a young age. Parents should get to decide when THEIR kids are taught such. In our opinion ignorant teenagers hired to go around trying to get very young children to accuse good protective warm loving & involved parents of abuse...just outraging. Also that 2nd day of camp, my son's book bag label was peeled off and stuck to his bare back. He cried when I later had to slowly peel it off, and his fine back hairs got pulled out along with it. I asked my son who did this to him. He said his teacher. I asked which one and he said he didn't know. He added it happened in the boys locker room. We are contacting national YMCA organization leaders if they have any such figure heads to file specific complaints with. Upon letting a YMCA Kinder Camp and Youth program adult directors know that our son had been interrogated behind closed boys locker room doors at camp by a teenaged camp helper, they refused to remove the teenager involved even after they confirmed what had taken place & instead called in risk management. We were told that it was OUR problem if we could not trust them after they broke the parental trust placed in them, and we were told it was our son's last day at camp. Not to worry. After the strange way they re-acted & terrible treatment, and after I'd already said I must keep eyes on my child from a distance and not have him taken to the boys bathroom with teenaged camp helpers, I trusted them even less. They said they refunded a week of camp paid for. Thanks for the generosity. We paid for 2 weeks & got 3 days. We were also told it is their new policy that parents cannot watch their kids from the hall because it makes the staff uncomfortable...at least not if that parent is a lawyer wanting to see what was going on for herself to insure staff did not further traumatize her son. Our entire family is better off not being subjected to YMCA children's programs since our entire family was distressed by what they did to our 3 year old. I attempted to be forgiving, just not blind, deaf, and dumb as required. The Cary YMCA very obviously do not know that trust is earned, not owed. Look up news articles online. Staff at this Cary YMCA have been convicted of child sexual predator related crimes...oh, but they trust their staff blindly and all parents should too! If a parent does not blindly trust them, then get out & don't bring your child back. I'll post audio of staffers recorded on my phone and come back to reviews to post the site to find it on. I can do better by my child than to try to send him here unmonitored. What are they hiding that they don't want parents to see? Sky's the limit apparently. We strongly recommend sending your children elsewhere. Our son has no familiar faces should we send him to a new camp for the last few weeks of summer, and he lived through a week of diarrhea after his experience with this terrible venue with staffers without remorse who thanks to abuse prevention training, are apparently quick to interrogate kids as to whether they are abused. Parents ask your kids if they were interrogated. Our almost 4 year said camp counselors asked lots of kids. Our mistake to bring our child here. We won't make it again. Given all that they verbally had the gaul to say to me thinking me too stupid not to record them with my nice new phone, I should file suit for the tort of intentional inflictions of emotional distress so that they can no longer afford to treat other children and parents in this way. Strongly considering it. The Cary YMCA staffers have disrespected every member of our family with their injurious actions, and even more so with the manner in which they chose to handle the cruelty they inflicted. We are amazed this place is somehow still open to the unsuspecting public given all they fail to disclose and the hide your skeletons instead of warning parents routine. Horrific treatment of our child and us as parents at this YMCA staff...truly a nightmare. Moving to Cary, a place so full of hateful people, has indeed turned out to be a terrible choice! If about to move here for work, my advice (take it or leave it) is don't. Appearances are deceiving when visiting. I sent my 5 year old (Kindergarten) to the Cary YMCA aftercare. During her first week, they left her outside alone on accident (she paused to tie her shoe, and the group went on without her). She was left outside scared for 15 minutes before anyone realized she was missing! Luckily, she is a smart kid who follows directions (she is NOT a wanderer), so she stayed in one place for someone to find her. She was scared out of her wits for those 15 minutes. My daughter is now at a daycare where the counselors go through the door AFTER they ensure that all the kids (checked off by name) go through the door first. If you don't want members to use the pool like a community/neighborhood pool... build a legit indoor pool for the swim team and fitness activities and close the outdoor pool. The pool staff has created a set of rules and policies that have effectively legislated fun out of going to the pool. Today's fiasco? Our family was turned away from the pool because we had a NON-SWIMMING guest that was just going to sit on the pool deck and visit. Ridiculous! The staff was also pretty rude in enforcing this "policy" that ensures the enjoyment of their members. read more

There membership prices are exorbitant i thought this was a non-profit organization. You cannot even bring kids here to swim in the summer if you are not a member? if this is a community organization how can they make this statement. The old buzzard at the swimming center when giving us this information treated us like 2nd class citizens and behaved as this was a exclusive country club. read more
