I have been a Planet Fitness Cary client since 2018. I took a brief hiatus during COVID but returned once the facility reopened. I think that we have had a very good relationship. There was a time when folks at the front desk knew my name, and we exchanged pleasant salutations during check-in and check-out. Two weeks ago, I fell on the ice and broke my knee. I am having surgery next week and will not be able to work out until mid-July. I decided to pause my Blackcard Membership until July of this year. Well, that is when my road to perdition started. First, I tried to accomplish this task online. It is 2026, and most businesses allow clients to transact business online. Not Planet Fitness. The chaotic web client insisted that I call a toll-free number to accomplish this task. Ok, I contacted an individual in their offshore call center. Now, Mephistopheles was not his name, but I knew what he was up to just the same. After asking me why I wanted to modify my membership and other non-sequitur questions, he told me that he could not fulfill my request. He stated that he was not authorized for such transactions. I would have to call another toll-free number and talk to someone else who "could also not help me." Well, that made our ten minutes on the phone most worthwhile. After calling the second toll-free number and connecting with a domestic call center, the outcome was eerily similar. After discussing the issue for about 5 minutes, I was told that I would have to go to the facility, broken knee and all, and modify my membership there. So, I got a ride, broken knee and all, to the facility over the 5 kilometers. At this point in the never-ending story, my personal Dante's Inferno, my goal was to cancel the membership. So I did. The personnel at the front desk were extremely rude and showed no concern when a patron walked in with crutches and an extensive knee stabilizing unit. No "how are you today, sorry to see your misfortune," or even a hello. Just "matter of fact" if you want to cancel, cancel. OK!! My goal at the beginning of Gulliver's Travels was to suspend the membership until my knee allowed me to return. Now, my relationship with this business is over. When my recovery allows me to return to a gym, it will be to Life Time Fitness or some other quality establishment that knows how to treat clients. If I could give the Cary Planet Fitness a rating lower than one star, I would. Be very cautious of the facility! Any business that makes it this difficult to modify or cancel a membership cannot be on the up and up! Some people look at the price and ignore the value-added proposition. Not a fan of Planet Fitness's decisions when it comes to fairness. A friend of mine was working out, minding his own business, when an older man kicked his water bottle. My friend didn't react. Then the same man nearly sat on him, and when my friend moved away and asked what his problem was, the man got aggressive, invaded his personal space, and put his hands on him first. My friend defended himself, yet he was the one who got banned, while the aggressor faced no consequences. This shows a lack of fair judgment and poor handling of conflicts. Very disappointing. gym isn't boxer-friendly at all. There's no space to jump rope and no punching bags--just machines. For boxers, that's a big limitation. Adding a small open area for jump roping and at least one punching bag would be a small investment that could bring in more members and make the gym more versatile. read more

Updating my review based on new experiences here. I'm still enjoying my cardio on the elliptical and the strength training circuit in the back. I found that early mornings before 11AM and evening workouts after 7:30 are most convenient for me. I've seen a decline in my experience with the music volume here (noise levels here are dangerous to ones hearing), and it's mostly a nuance caused by the staff here. Music is motivating, but I have my own, and yours should not be as loud. Are you all under new management? The music is entirely too loud these days, and it's too warm in here. I have to use the elliptical under the fans to find comfort with the temperature. I'm not sure who's controlling the volume and the temp, but It needs to be adjusted accordingly. read more

I'm frustrated because of two things: horrible customer service from the front desk, and planet fitness policies about trying out the hydro massage don't make any sense. The person at the front desk was really rude. It's like they didn't want to work there and were annoyed if you had a question. I wanted to try the hydro massage to see if it was worth it, but they just said no, you have to be a black card member. If the hydro massage is attracting a potential customer, why not let them try it out? Now, I definitely don't want to join this place. I thought planet fitness was supposed to be a friendly place, but all I got was coldness. read more

Just started my membership, and upon my first visit to the gym I discovered they have removed nearly ALL ab related workout machines, which is the most critical for me to use. Very, very disappointing. I was told they are going to expand in coming months, and would bring the equipment back. I have been to other planet fitness locations that are much smaller - and they had ab machines. I will revise my review once they bring the machines that are necessary for a complete workout. Also, on a side note: I hope they will move soon to or add a location at Crossroads, they were a bit overly crowded. Thought we would get a tshirt with startup too, guess not. I've been a member at both the Garner location and now this Cary one. At the end of the day, it's hard to complain about a gym that's only $10 a month, but let's do it anyway with some pros as well. Pros; -Members usually clean machines when finished -Cheap price obviously -24/7 Access -Convenient location (for me anyway?) -Almost like a 1 size fits all kind of gym - I've seen pretty bulked up guys, to slim relatively fit guys like me, to people that are just starting out in their fitness journey. What's purple and yellow and keeps you healthy? Planet Fitness! Yeah, it's an odd color scheme but it works ok. I looked around at several health clubs (Life Time, Lifestyle, Snap) and couldn't find anything I really liked. While Planet Fitness is not what I really wanted, the price is right! They've got a no contract deal where you pay $10/month with a one-time $49 start fee and a $20 yearly maintenance fee. None of this "you have to move 100 miles away from the nearest location to break the contract" garbage. Been there, done that. I'm too lazy to go to the gym if it's more than 5 miles away! So what do you get for you $10/month, you ask? It's really not bad. Besides the Planet Fitness t-shirt you get pleasant staff, clean locker rooms and a bunch of NCSU students. What don't you get? There's no towel services, no group classes and no real trainers. The staff does some group lessons if you need help. As for equipment, they have quite a bit of aerobic equipment: treadmills, bikes, ellipticals all equipped with headphone plug-ins for music and TV audio. The free weight area is small with a good selection of dumbells. There's also a line of weight machines (two of each type) for the rest of your workout. I'm not a big fan of the machines, they don't seem to fit me well but do the job. Overall it's not a bad place to break a sweat. There's a ton of NCSU students between 5-7pm so if you want to work out in peace, avoid that time slot. Planet Fitness is not quite open 24 hours a day but certainly enough to easily find a good workout time. So for now, the place works for me. I appreciate all of the measures being taken to stay clean during COVID. This gym is great for my current price budget, and I enjoy being a member here. The staff is always very kind and welcoming, and there is a good selection of machines to workout on. I dislike that it's always crowded, whether I go at 5am or 7pm because it is overstimulating, and waiting for machines is inconvenient when in a time crunch. I have been coming to this Planet Fitness location since they opened about a year ago, and this gym is well worth it for me! I got the special $99 flat rate for a whole year, that's about $0.27 per day or $8.25 per month!!! Hell, since I shower here about 24 times a month, I think my fee doesn't even cover my water usage. I believe the normal rate is $10.00 per month, which is still extremely cheap. Obviously their business model relies on most lazy folks who join a gym but never/rarely attend. The money I save is nice because I can put that towards supplements such as Whey Protein & Cheeseburgers, haha! During the week I workout here from about 5 AM to 6:30 AM and although it gets busier during the 2nd half of my workout, it still isn't too crowded. I can't really speak for the weekday evenings as I don't attend then but I have heard it is hard to find a machine at those times. During the weekend it is hit-or-miss, sometimes dead, sometimes really busy. It's a Planet Fitness, so they don't have Olympic Bar (free-weight bench press), but I have found by mixing up free weight dumbbell presses with presses on the Smith Machines, I can still get a good chest workout. The dumbbells only go up to 75 lbs, which is more than adequate for most people. There is the silly "lunk alarm", but once you get used to it, it can be actually kind of funny on the rare occasion when someone sets it off. Pros: * The morning crew, shout out to Hailey & Nick, are really great! Nice peops! * Low Cost * Good Location * Very spacious * Good equipment * Very clean * They always have hot water in the showers * Lots of TVs, if that's your thing Cons: None really..... if I had to think of some: additional drinking fountain and ceiling fans in the weight lifting area would be nice. This is the primary location I attend- location is convenient, place is clean, staff is friendly. Although, lately i have been attending other locations because it seems when there is a broken machine here it is broken for months before it is fixed. This location only has two stair steppers (the other 3 locations I've been to have all had 5-8) and one of them has been broken for over a month. The last month (so about 30 times I've been to this location) the stair stepper has not been open for more than 30 seconds for the hour i am working out. Love this gym and recommend it but I would just ask if they could fix machines quicker and add more stair steppers! read more

How do you publicize these ridiculous short hours on holidays ? I arrived at 4:15pm, figuring that you would be having weekend hours, closing at 7 pm. Can't tell you how disappointed I was to find the empty parking lot and locked doors and piece of paper on the door saying you had closed at 1pm. This piece of paper was not posted when I was there last week. The hours are not listed on your website. Being an evening exerciser, I depend on your late hours. The first Planet Fitness I was a member of was open 24 hours 7 days a week. This is where I formed my very favorable opinion of Planet Fitness While the facilities at this Planet Fitness are in excellent repair and very clean, it doesn't do much good if the place is closed. Please consider being open until midnight on weekends and holidays. 9pm closing on Friday is marginal, 7 pm closing on weekends makes it virtually unusable without extreme planning but 1 pm closing without any notice is beyond belief. It's that time again. The time when I picture myself in a bathing suit and shudder. So, I started going to the Western Blvd. Planet Fitness. It's about 2 minutes from my job, so no excuses this time! I like this one better than the Atlantic Avenue PF, but it still has some downsides, so it, too, gets three stars. I like that they have the elliptical machines that I prefer, but everything just seems cramped. While the locker room on the other hand is huge! I'm not into tanning, so I can't give you anything on that. I don't like that the girly free weights are mixed into the beefcake area, so I tend to avoid that. And, again, can a girl get a scale? Good Lord. They do have a friendly staff, though. All in all, a no-frills, bare bones sort of place, but it gets the job done. read more

This gym is extremely clean and well kept. They recently added new machines. The staff are always friendly, welcoming and very helpful. Nick and Talia greet us every weekday with a smile and encouragement. Erik, the Trainer is amazing! I've been taking his classes for 16 weeks now and can't believe my progress! My brother is a member here and for his $20 membership fee, he can bring a guest for free. I walked in and the place was beautiful! Lots of machines in great condition. Love the color scheme. Several of the same machines so no waiting on a machine! Wasn't crowded on a Monday morning. I love the Lunk alarm that goes off when someone drops weights loudly or judges others or grunts. I wish my gym had that feature!! There are some sections in the back specifically for circuit training and abs. There are tanning beds, tables and chairs and Aqua massage for members. Several hanging TVs by the cardio area. Very comfortable gym with a variety of customers. Showers were large with large shower heads. Nice locker rooms and small hair dryers. Very clean. The only limitation I saw was there are no classes offered like yoga or Zumba or body pump. read more

When I went to this Planet fitness location I expected the worst. I had been a member in New york and most the time the gym was extremely crowded and had mediocre equipment at best. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into this location. First of the gym wasn't as overcrowded as it usually was in new york or other locations. Yes, there were a lot of people but not to the point where you couldn't get anything done. Another thing I liked was the cleanliness of the gym. Perhaps is because this location is pretty new but all the equipment was brand new, and the entire place looked flawless. Something new that I had not seen at a planet fitness was the addition of Training ropes, TRX ropes, and a few other training tools that you usually find at higher end gyms. Now some people have complained about the service but I thought it was great. Alec gave us a tour of the facility and was very nice and pleasant. Now its unfortunate to hear that some people have had their things stolen, but I don't think you should bring expensive things to the gym anyways. I think it can happen at any gym. Overall, for the price I think you cannot get any better. You have great equipment, great service, what else could you want. read more

I can see how See how some people would find the space a bit uncomfortable being that its compact; however, I'm here to take care of myself and stay well. There are more than enough machines and weights for me to utilize what I need to, when I need to; which, for the price, is phenomenal. No matter what time of day Or night, I get what I need. They post a statistically accurate chart of what times of day people are populating the gym weekly, so avoiding crowds is easier if that's your thing. I don't intend to expose my skin to tanning lights, but they so have those for free, too. I haven't gone to a gym in a very long time and to be honest never one this big, I'm from a small town where gyms are few and far between. The staff is really friendly, and the facility is VERY clean. You will almost always see a staff member cleaning something. The locker room (mens), is also very very clean, I'm impressed. This is a basic gym, don't expect yoga or zumba, that's not what you are paying for here. I am amazed at how affordable this place is, and even their no contract plan is quite cheap! So far this place fits me perfectly, I can get all of the exercise that I need, in a friendly clean environment, that is also on my way home from work. I don't have the membership that includes tanning, I don't tan, but there are days that I'd enjoy the massage chairs, if they were available. They aren't trying to sell you anything, they are just glad that you are there. read more
