It first opened its gates in 1956 as Brevard County's first memorial-plan cemetery. It covers roughly 40 acres and offers traditional in-ground burial, mausoleum entombment spaces, cremation gardens, private family estates, and a serene veterans' section with avenue-style flag displays. The grounds are very pretty and meticulously maintained and give a very serene feel to the area. However, its location directly adjacent to active Florida East Coast Railway tracks can create unfortunate timing issues; freight trains pass with surprising frequency and the sound as they pass are loud enough to interrupt outdoor services at the most inopportune moments. The entrance road is narrow, and parking is limited and somewhat chaotic during larger funerals, often forcing most people to park along the shoulder. Once inside, navigating the grounds on foot can be tricky--because it is an older, full cemetery, graves are placed very close together with few defined walkways, making it easy to accidentally step over burial sites while trying to reach a tent for a service. Despite these practical challenges, this remains a wonderfully dignified, attractive final resting place with over sixty-five years of local history that is a great place to have your loved ones laid to rest.

In order for that to happen they want to charge me $5500 in addition to what I am already paying for my space. That's more than I paid 4 years ago. So basically, they want me to pay more than double to move less than 2 feet. Oh, but they offered me 10% off. I sat for over an hour sobbing at the site of where my grandmother is apologizing that there would now be a stranger between us because of greed. I tried. I'm in education and I just can't afford to pay more than double. The manager called later that day about the fiasco and misunderstanding and asked if he could call the next day. That was a week ago and crickets. It would have cost them nothing to move my space over. They still would have had my current space to sell, and, likely to a family member had they done the right thing and treated me with a little bit of humanity. The family was looking to buy 3 more spaces so the whole family was with her. After they showed that greed was the only thing that matter to them, the rest of the family is out. At this point, we may be moving her and finding a better place that cares. There has to be a place with more humanity. I am absolutely gutted and heartbroken.

The proceeds then needed to go towards a prepaid service. Funeral arrangements were one of those allowed. St Francis Hospice care recommended them. Another wonderful company and group of people. NBFH worked with me from GA to make my dads wishes a reality. By phone, email, text and more emails. When the time came, dad had passed, they showed up in the hour to pick him up. The gentleman was in a full suit, kind eyes and said all the right things. Dad was taken and covered in a quilt. This gesture, meant a lot. He was taken care of. We met with a director on the final details two days later. My brother and I were comfortable, able to express our feelings, taken care of, and listened to. Please, consider this funeral home if you are in need of those services. This local business is a shinning example of the best that humanity has to offer.

Kathleen the funeral director gave me the task of buying her hair dye as well as giving me graphic details as to why the dress I picked out for her wouldn't work because it was too low cut and the embalming marks would show. I was mortified. On the day of the viewing and service she told me to get to the church early to "set up" the sign in book and programs. Shouldn't that have been her job? Horrible, horrible experience. I will never, ever use Ammen again and will never recommend them. They should be ashamed of themselves.

The small cemetery is called the Houston Pioneer Cemetery and is the final resting place of John Caroll Houston and his wife, Mary Virginia Houston. The Houstons were one if the first families to settle in the area This is a very cool part of a very cool.part of this community. Rossetter Park is located in Eau Gallie next to the James Wadsworth Rossetter House which is now a…read moremuseum. Eau Gallie used to be its own town but in 1960 he joined with Melbourne. Angela who is the caretaker at the Rossetter House came out to speak to me and she picked up on my love of history. She recommended that I take a look at the park. According to a memorial I found, the park was dedicated in 1980 to its pioneers. It was the same year as Eau Gallies centennial. Imagine my surprise upon further exploration when I saw the park contains a small cemetery. It turns out another name for this park is the Houston Pioneer Cemetery and it contains the graves of the settlers from Eau Gallie, John Caroll Houston, III and his wife Mary Virginia Houston. Another memorial I found in the park lists the first grave as being from 1865. There is also a memorial plaque to Susan T, Edwards (1878-1972), founder of the Eau Gallie Garden Club. According to a bulletin board in the park, 12 members of the Houston family are buried here with the last burial taking place in 1910. The family includes two infant daughters whose names aren't even listed. On April 24, 2010 a study was done on the cemetery by a professor and graduate students from the department of anthropology at UCF. They were able to study the ground for all marked and unmarked graves. The cemetery map was created at UCF using the results of the ground penetrating radar. They concluded that they believed there were many unmarked graves but it can't proven unless the ground is actually dug up. How many people remain here may be up for debate but there is no denying that is a beautiful final resting place. The gate, live oaks dripping in Spanish moss, and the old fashioned grave stones give it a Haunted Mansion vibe. These old family cemeteries provide so much history on the people who came to make their fortune in Florida when it was a swamp swarming with mosquitos and there was no air conditioning. Their hard work laid the foundation for what is here today and they deserve to be remembered for their contributions.

Upon calling back to inform them what happened, June ultimately blamed us for this experience, explaining that they would never sell a damaged product and not apologizing once. On the phone, the funeral director Harvey said he witnessed the cremains being put into a sealed bag and an intact urn, and picked up yesterday. The ashes were not in a bag and were picked up days ago. I would not wish this experience on anyone, nobody should have to pick up the remains of a loved one off the floor due to somebody's negligence.

I felt they phoned it in, and were barely present during a very difficult time in our family's time of grief. The only call I received from them was to receive payment. They also had told us they would send us help for the obituary. We received nothing. They didn't bother to call to tell us that my father's ashes were ready. We ended up having to call them. They also didn't call us to let us know about his death certificates. I'm out of town and was promised that they would send the death certificates via express mail. They didn't. Again, among the many, many other things that we have to deal with, we had to follow up with them instead of getting a phone call to tell us the most basic information and the information we did get - that they'd mail the death certificates- was wrong. We did not contract with them for the funeral services, which I'm really glad at this point that we did not. However, maybe if we spent more money with them, they would've been more responsive. Overall, I would absolutely not recommend this organization and would suggest looking elsewhere when you are faced with the death of a family member.
