Dr. Thigpen, Dr. Long, and Dr. Smith are the most compassionate and knowledgeable vet for dogs/cats around. The staff are true animal lovers and won't over handle your animal or sedate them unless it's necessary. They don't do horses but do many exotics. Veterinary services are so expensive these days and they will work with you to find the best method of treatment for your animal and checkbook. Now this is NOT your fancy white walled vet building. It's a renovated barn with plenty of farm animals around. It doesn't smell like a vet office either which puts many animals at ease. I've been using Dr. Thigpen since before her barn was renovated into a vet office- back when it was just a goat milking parlor which was over 12 years ago- I highly recommend them.

She recently had a tooth infection and we almost lost her. She was at risk of not making it through the cleaning procedure due to her diabetes, age, and the anesthesia, along with the fact that she wasn't able to eat with her insulin. The doctor gave her some antibiotics and painkillers to help with the infection and make her feel better. This gave her the chance to regain her strength and be able to start eating moist food again. Then I had to make the tough call to proceed with the surgery. She was strong and she was brave. I made the right choice and thanks to the skill of the doctor and his caring staff, my Angel made it through the tooth extraction sugary and cleaning with flying colors. Dr Offutt approaches each of our pets individually. He is careful to treat the older ones minimally unless aggressive medication is necessary, and the are great to have our dogs' records and vaccinations up to date every year. Dr Offutt doesn't push the food or vaccinations of the month like some vets do. I appreciate that, not judging the others. He's given us lots of good advice and recommendations for the dogs individual quirks and health conditions. They saved Enzo's life from a bad bout of pancreatitis here and have helped him have such a higher quality of life that I feel a loyalty to them. We moved from across the state where we enjoyed a great relationship with the vet and it's been a real relief to find Dr Offutt. All I hear from other customers and patients is respect and gratitude. We were confused and said oh, we called previously and were quoted $300, they asked if we had a written statement and of course no, we just called. At this point, our dog was already at the vet and had medication to prepare for the surgery, so we felt like we had to move forward. Well, when we picked him up, we were charged $530 for the procedure. Once we asked why it raised, they knocked off $40 for a shot they didn't even give him. If we hadn't asked, we would've paid for something that he didn't even receive. Again, I'm not posting this to be ridiculous or rude, I genuinely have enjoyed our experience with Applebrook. But this instance left us super frustrated and disappointed. I'm only posting a review because we had told them multiple times we were initially quoted $300, and left paying over $500. Just do better about transparent pricing please! On the plus side, the vet techs are very kind and love our dog. Their puppy package has been great for his first year, and I generally would recommend them! The staff is always smiling and friendly. I was really impressed with how high tech this clinic is. They were able to take x rays and tests with immediate results. This was really helpful due to the severe chronic problems we're having with our 12-year-old pug. We were able to get her health back up to prolong her life by a few more months. Eventually, after doing everything we could, she reached a point where her quality of life declined to a level that the only humane thing to do was to have her put to sleep. After 12 years with a pet, they are like family. This clinic understands that and that's why they set up a really nice private room in the back with separate entrance for these procedures. Within a few days, we received a card in the mail signed from everyone at the clinic sending their condolences. It'll probably be a while before we get another pet, but if we do, the only place we'll take it is to Bluegrass Veterinary Clinic, LLC. He was losing weight (not that he has much to lose) and his hair was falling out. He was taking his maximum dose of medication orally without much affectivness.
