I will say they have had some good barbers come and sadly go. Having said that it is like playing Russian Roulette haircut style. One person cuts it great so you make sure you go back to them. Then one day they no longer work there. So, since you're already there and you need a haircut you have someone else do it. Then you go home and fix it for a half hour. They have pulled shady moves in the past. Once I realized they hadn't given me the fade I had asked for. So naturally I said something. They said "Okay we fix but we charge more now she have to do again" and added $5 to the final bill. Another time my buddy went with me and they tried charging him extra for a taper. The problem is he never asked for a taper. The lady at the register kept saying "He (the barber) said he give you taper". My buddy said "I never asked for a taper". They went back and forth until they finally took the charge off with annoyance. They also recently changed the pricing on the pricing menu so now instead of having one set price it reads Mens haircut $20-$25. Of course when it is time to pay it is always the highest cost. They would just talk amongst themselves. I didn't feel very welcomed. The actual haircut experience wasn't any better. While the guy was cutting my hair a bunch fell on to my face. Where he left it until I wiped it out of my eyes myself. Then while he was trimming my beard he clipped the edge of my nostril. Then he edged out my beard with a straight razor that had an old blade. Initially I went to a few different barbers at the Gilbert location but soon found that DJ was my guy; he has been cutting my hair since. DJ takes the time to dial in his cuts and really cares for each of his clients. He remembers what I like to talk about and always strikes up a good conversation. In the rare event I need a cut fast and he is unavailable, all other barbers are at EMG are phenomenal. The EMG family of shops is one of a kind and really a family business with DJ, his brother Tony, and the extended family running the multiple locations. When DJ said he was getting his own shop off Higley/Guadalupe in Gilbert, I was thrilled as this location is easier for me to get to give close proximity to the US 60 and my work. The new shop, EMG Higley just opened a few weeks ago. I went in right before Thanksgiving and was astonished at how beautiful the new shop was. It gives a sophisticated, high class vibe that makes you want to have a glass of whiskey and a cigar. Everything is clean, well designed and comfortable with subtle hints of Star Wars dotted throughout. Plenty of TVs and places to relax while you wait for your appointment. I always make my appointments online a few days in advanced and get to the shop a little early to hang/relax a bit. Standards are very high and prices are reasonable, especially for Gilbert. I highly recommend this barbershop and think of EMG Higley as one of the best barbers in the Valley. Give them a shot and you will not regret it.
