Fully recounting my story would take far too much time and space. The largest picture is that getting the branch manager only got on the phone after I spent three hours seeking aid from other branches and the corporate office. Even then, she clearly strongly resisted speaking with me. This conversation occurred after she knew that two of her employees had given me scads of incorrect information and had shown a complete lack of understanding of banking by using terms such as "I think" and "probadly." By this time, I had been materially disadvantaged due to an error by the second employee. Rather then offering an easy operations solution, the manager provided a solution that required me to undergo the inconvenience of a trip o another branch solely due to the error regarding which I was entirely blameless. This is during a Covid uptick while I have an underlying condition. The manager very quickly told me that she does not speak to customers, that "too many customers want to speak to me," and that she "only works by appointment." She added that her employees are qualified to handle customer. She did not respond when I replied that that obviously was not the case. The manager further stated that she knew that I had been irate for 2.5 hours and made it cLear that she never intended to speak to me. The added injury to all these injuries is that I very justifiably spoke to the manager in an angry but not at all obscene or threatening tone. Her response was that she was going to hang up if I continued to speak to her like that. A small branch like Newburyport that has a smaller staff needs a better person at the helm. The larger and sadder truth is that this manager clearly lacks the the proper attitude to occupy the corner office at any branch but almost definitely will continue doing so either in Newburyport or another location that will need to suffer under her "leadership." read more

It's Saturday, October 12, 2019. TD Bank in Newburyport was the only bank open at 1:15 PM. We're from out of town and in our area there are no TD Banks so obviously I don't and wouldn't have an account with them especially after what happened today. We own a small catering business and were hired to be at an event for a local animal rescue group today. Prior to leaving our town we had a change order for $200 in small bills but ended up using it all giving change for people who bought food from us at the event. I needed to make a quick run to any bank open for a change order of $100. The closest bank to us, and the only one open at 1:15 PM, was the TD Bank in Newburyport. I walked in and asked if I could get a change order for $100 and was told "sure" but then was asked if I had an account with them. I told the teller, "No, there are no TD Banks in my area. I'm from out of town working a dog charity event and you're the only bank open." The teller then rudely states, "Then I can't give you a change order." I stared at him for a moment and said, "I'm from out of town and you're the only bank open. I need to get small bills. Can't you make an exception?" He and the other teller both told me no because I wasn't a customer of theirs. Another customer, who is a member of their bank, said she'd do it for me but the tellers told her she couldn't do that either. I left upset and angry because they were the ONLY bank open, I'm not from the area so I had no idea where to go, I drove 20 minutes to get to them which wasted my gas at $2.99 a gallon in that town. I went outside for a few minutes to try to Google search where I could go but again, by this time it was close to 1:30 PM. I went back inside to ask the helpful customer if there was a nearby grocery store or another bank open. The second teller then tells me they will make an exception this time to do a change order, I said, "no thank you because obviously exchanging money for like money isn't something you're going to make money off of with fees. Just so you know I am contacting your corporate bank and manager on Monday." The customer tells me there is a Market Basket three miles away and I went there for a change order. Thankfully, Market Basket was able to give me small bills but only $20 in ones so I had to go next to Shaw's (next door to Market Basket) and get another $30 in ones from them. Needless to say, if there was a TD Bank in my area I definitely wouldn't switch from my bank to them nor take my business accounts to them. The way to win a person into becoming a customer is to provide them with service. I could understand if I was trying to a cash a check and they said no but this was exchanging $100 (in twenties) for $50 in ones and the rest in fives and tens. I have had our business account at this bank for almost 9 years. I've had some issues with them over the years. There was the time that a manager told one of my customer's that a repair we performed was very expensive and that she shouldn't come back (which is interesting, because when I confronted the manager about why she did this, she admitted that she had never seen the invoice for the repair and had no idea of the scope of the work performed). The customer by the way has never been back. Then there was the time that they switched our accounts. They claimed it would be seamless. Then one of my employees failed to make one of our multi-day deposits when he should have. As a result we had a check that required overdraft protection. The result was a fee of over $900! It took many months working with the toll free customer service and the local branch manager (a different manager) and we received about half of the fee back. Toward the end of the ordeal, they stopped returning calls all together. Even they themselves could not explain the fees or the fee structure. Many fees have been moving up steadily over the years as well. But here is the FINAL straw ... Starting this year, TD Banknorth is starting to charge a fee for .... get this ... CASH deposits over a certain amount. Really? ... So we have been hesitant to switch banks since we are set up with their on-line payment system and it will take hours upon hours to make a transition to another bank ... but I am done. D.O.N.E.!! Several years ago I wrote a good review about the Institution for Savings in Newburyport ... I wish I had taken my own advise and switched my business accounts when I switched my personal accounts all those years ago. I'm so done with big national/international banks. read more

I have been banking with TD Bank in Boston for 10 years but because of this branch's mismanagement I will cancel all my 3 accounts with TD Bank. They couldn't do anything right... They messed up my check order, wire transfer and their ATM never gave me money, simply went out of service. When I asked them to give me money from the counter that the ATM didn't give they said they can't do it and that I have to notify my bank myself to inform them that the money never came out. My other bank told me that it will take a month for them to investigate the withdrawal and that my money will not be available until the investigation was complete. The assistant manager was extremely rude and belligerent and even threatened to call the police when I complained that it's their ATM's fault and not mine that my money will be unavailable for a month. Even the district manager refused to help me so I decided to take my business elsewhere. Horrible experience... read more
