My decision to purchase home and auto insurance was based on the fact that as a Dalhousie Alumni I received a discount off my insurance, and by purchasing house and auto insurance together, I would save an extra 5% off my car insurance. Since that time, I have been greatly questioning this decision. It seems I get a call from Meloche nearly every week. They keep calling me over and over for the same things. There have been 3 separate incidents where they continued to call and leave messages after I had already spoke with them and advised them accordingly, but for whatever reason the communications kept getting lost. Overall, I've been quite dissatisfied with Meloche's level of customer service and don't intend to renew my insurance with them once it is up. read more

Meloche Monnex is part of the TD Insurance system. They wrote my car insurance policy 10 years ago. I no longer need this insurance policy and getting it cancelled is nothing short of a nightmare. Every attempt I have made through internet and phone leads to failure. To make matters worse, TD Ins, has in its policy management service an internet service called My Insurance which is foisted on policy holders. Only because I am not given any realistic means of establishing contact with an agent by phone, I have attempted, unsuccessfully to use this service. I do not have any record of user name or password for My Insurance and their web page will not allow me to register. Obviously they have some data on me and the policy because the site tells me to update my profile, and tells me to contact TD by phone. The number given is always busy and I've waited as long as 80 minutes for an answer only to give up in frustration. I can't close my account and am still being billed monthly. I can't stop paying them through my bank through a preauthorized monthly payment system, and even if I could I wouldn't do it because as the policy is still active I have to pay it. The only option I can see now is to go to a lawyer. read more

I was a loyal customer and TD Meloche Monnex's #1 fan. I bought all of their coverage, even extra to ensure that I was well insured. I have never had an at fault accident and I've been a customer for more than 5 years. I also have been driving for 14 years and never with an at fault accident. I do drive 100 km to and from work. Twice, I got nailed for going 10-15 over the speed limit. Another time, I got a failure to obey a traffic sign (because I wasn't even speeding enough to give me a ticket). This is in the past three years. Once, I mistakenly thought I was in a 110 zone but it was 100. Innocent mistake. Because of these three speeding tickets, TD just cancelled my insurance. They cancelled my motorcycle insurance and then just called and said they wont be renewing my car insurance. Note, I was not stunting, or dangerous driving in any form and have never had a claim. (I know, I should get a car with cruise control). I also have a house policy with TD. Not anymore. Never again. One of the tickets on my record expires on August 14th. Just once month after my coverage cancellation date. Which means, that as of August 14th, I qualify to be insured again. They could have charged me a premium and saved their relationships with a valuable customer for the sake of one month. I would have happily paid extra to prevent the hassle. Now, I have had to do the legwork and go to regular market insurance to pay double for my motorcycle until August. And, again, go to another insurer and pay double for my car for one month until my ticket expires in August. What good is customer service when it means you can't do the right thing by your customer for the sake of a month. Not only am I frustrated by having to go find new insurance and pay through the nose on initiations and cancellations, I have been made to feel like a criminal. Meanwhile, there are drunk drivers out there with convictions who seem to be able to get insurance easier than me. No insurance companies are nice but for christ sakes, find one who is willing to work with you to find a solution. Not one who will drop you and say too bad. read more

We've been clients of TD Insurance/Meloche Monnex for over 10 years. They gave pretty good rates and everything was always smooth. Until we had a water leak and did a claim. They refused to cover the damage, and that's not the worst part - after second assessor came 5 months ago they completely disappeared, never informed us about their final decision. For the last 2 months they never responded to any of my emails. Very unsatisfied. read more

I recently cancelled my insurance with the Halifax office as I moved provinces. You would not believe how difficult it is to be insured with the SAME company in a different province. Once I moved, I called to update my address, and I was informed I had to cancel my "Nova Scotia" insurance, and open a new policy with the "Alberta" insurance. Fine. After hours on the phone and transfererd between offices multiple times, this appeared to be sorted out. After receiving a ridiculous amount of mail from both offices, I received a letter from Nova Scotia saying they would be crediting my account with $200. Great. 3 months later, I still do not have this money. I have called multiple times only to get bizarre responses like "your bank account changed when you moved, so the payment has been delayed 10 business days". My bank account information did NOT change at all - I had direct deposit to TD for years and they never had any problem with the bank account information then, suddenly now there is a problem when they have to pay me. I called today and was told the payment is delayed 10 business days and the customer service agent took the approach of nonchalance and indifference to how long I've waited. Instead of saying that something screwed up with my bank account information, she blamed the bank. If you are interested in terrible customer service, several pieces of mail per week, and unspecific answers to why any payments are delayed, TD Insurance is for you! read more

AVOID. AT ALL COSTS.....The absolute worst customer service experience I have ever encountered. Different answers to the same questions from different people. They do not care in the least about your interests. Next to impossible to communicate with. Extreme lack of knowledge pertaining to their industry. As you can see by their overall rating on many review sites, am I not alone in my judgement. You get the idea. Do yourself a favour and don't waste your valuable time on this company. read more

I absolutely agree with the previous writer. The left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand is doing. And the staff don't seem to be on top of how to provide direction to allow the folks they want to talk to succeed in getting back to them - I try return messages based on the contact info that iscontained in the many messages that are left with me, but the information doesn't allow me to get through, etc. Also very frustrating is the policy against email communication. They seem to want to avoid a paper trail. read more

I think my comments are probably for all insurance companies. I had been a loyal client of Monnex for over 25 years for both home and auto insurance. I have had no claims until a few years back; I had some plumbing issues that resulted in some costly damage - my plumber was on hand when the Insurance Assessor came by - he called the probelm a "latent defeat" that was not insurable even though the plumber certified that was not the case. A couple years later, I had a roofing issue from snow weight which is included in my policy - the Assessor said the wood used on the roof was not "code" (its not wirtten that its not, but not wrtten that it is) and thus not insurable. They then sent me a letter indicating that unless I had the roof repaired in 3 months, they would cancel my policy! I did repair it of course. When my policy was up for renewal, believe it or not, they INCREASED my premium by $144.00 simply because I had submitted a claim! They paid out nothing, lost nothing, my home is improved with the repairs I made -and they INCREASE my policy. If there is another insurance company out there that actually protects their clients after they have paid thousands of dollars to them over the years, I sure would like to know who they are. read more
