The atmosphere and wait staff are pleasant and welcoming, but the food is very poor quality. It is obvious they use frozen, pre-prepared foods and microwaves to heat, even "steam" it - nothing tasted fresh. For example, my "fried" tofu was not at all crispy as one would imagine, and it was room-temperature on the outside, piping hot on the inside! All of the vegetables tasted exactly like those horrible frozen veggies Mom used for hurried dinners - bland, soggy, and void of any nutrition. Tea Cafe is me and my Norman friends' meet up spot for food every time I'm in town. I'm a sucker for Chinese food, especially when it's cold (I don't really know why). This place was highly disappointing. First, our table was sticky from the quick wipe down it received as we waited to be seated. We sat and ordered the following, special milk tea (cold), vietnamese coffee (cold), chicken friend rice, and crispy chicken nuggets. They were all disappointments. The vietnamese coffee tasted like instant coffee and watered down at that. Instead of the rich strong bold coffee taste it tasted watered down like a Mcdonalds iced coffee. Instead of the sweet thick condensed milk you can tell this was not part of the ingredients. The coffee barely tasted sweet and sugar sweet rather than condensed milk sweet. For the fried rice, you know its bad when the rice comes out a dark brown rather than a light golden brown. This dark color indicates that they only used soy sauce, and too much at that. Then there was the simplicity of the dish, soy sauce, rice, chicken, and egg. I expected more from a restaurant fried rice such as having peas, corns, onions, etc. The taste is nothing better than something I can throw together at home, with lots of oil. The cripsy chicken nuggets tasted very salty, like it was marinated in soy sauce and fried. Lastly, the special milk tea tasted like a watered down lychee fruit drink. I did get the lychee jelly but this should not have overpowered the milk tea. It tasted like a carbonated lychee drink with a splash of milk tea. The Tea Cafe has gone downhill over the last year. Service and portion sizes are going in the porcelain throne. I've eaten from here many times. Mostly take-out and a couple of dine-in. The people behind the counter seems to be clueless anymore. Got home with my take-out last week and my soup cup was only half-full and my Kung Pao chicken had about four pieces in it, burnt wonton always. No hot mustard? I've probably been more than ten times over the last 4-5 years. They have great fresh juice; melon is seasonal and the orange juice is superb. The steamed dumplings are great. Wanted some good hot tea so I decided to check this place out. Got the ginger tea with honey, it was a bit to sweet but was good; the temperature of the tea was luke warm not hot at all!! Second tea we had was the jasmine green tea had to tell the waiter to make sure it was a HOT TEA, he got it right this time, tea was delicious! I decided to order some spicy steamed dumplings, the picture had them in a chill oil looked delicious. Took about 20min to get about 6 steamed dumplings. I should've known they would've not been like the picture; not in chili oil and weren't that great. If you've ever had chili oil you'll know that the "chili oil" served with it was anything but that! It tasted more like soy sauce. Won't be coming here ever, if I want good tea I'll go to the gray owl. Restaurant was not clean at all I think mold was or grime was growing behind the cushions. Mirrors they had up on the wall had so much dust!!!! The waiter was nice but he really didn't know how to service his guest when he brought us our dumplings he didn't bring napkins or utensils, we asked for utensils but we decided we would just get up and get them ourselves since they were across from us, he went to the front of the place and I wasn't going to wait. You know when you mess up cooking noodles and it becomes one with its brothers, that's what happened here. The food and tea are excellent. I usually get the General Tso's chicken with brown rice. There is nowhere better in town for that specific meal. It's been hit or miss with other things such as the Bento box and noodle bowls. The coconut milk tea is fantastic as well. The boba has also been hit or miss. Sometimes it's too chewy - like it's expired. The service has also been troublesome as of late. It used to be great, but it's pretty obvious that they're understaffed and the staff that they have are overworked. It took 15 minutes for someone to bring me water, another 15 for someone to take my food order, and then an abysmal 45 minutes to receive my food last time I went. I love Tea Cafe, it's a Norman speciality and for a long time has been great. I don't know if it's new management or new policies, but their customer service and quality of food has been subpar for a while now. When you're notified of an item not being available about 5 minutes before your party's food is ready, that's a problem. The alternative they offered, the special soup, was like trying to eat spaghetti with a tomato based soup. They say it includes crab and shrimp, but there was no sign of it anywhere. So when a customer is dissatisfied with their food, it makes sense to offer some sort of discount. The best they could do was 10% off the soup ONLY! Terrible customer service that will eventually catch up to them. It would be a shame to see this place go to waste. read more

I really used to love this place when it was on the East side and I hadn't eaten here in years. Honestly, I was disappointed. The food was okay, not bad. My son said he thought the sweet and sour chicken at the Asian buffet was better. The water they delivered to the table was warm and not iced. I had Singapore noodles because it was one of the four gluten free options. If you need to avoid gluten, don't make any assumptions here, even the egg drop soup has gluten in it. My friends and I decided to go to Tea Cafe because we were in the mood for some good food. We were excited because it was lunch time and we were able to order lo mein and rice for the lunch price. Saving money is always great, right? So we each order and make it clear that we want the lunch portion. The waiter even repeats the words "lunch portion" for each of us. We had only been there for tea previously and were not aware of what a lunch portion or dinner portion entailed. When we get our food, we eat it...like most normal people would. After we are finished, a different waitress brings us our check and we notice that we have been charged the dinner price. After waiting for about twenty minutes, the manager comes to our table and says that because we ate all the food, we had to be charged the dinner price. She says we should have known that lunch portions are not that big. When I asked to talk to the waiter who took our order, she replied with "I'm the manager, you can talk to me". Even though it wasn't our fault that our waiter put the wrong order in to the cooks, we were penalized for it. The manager was extremely rude and kept insisting that it was our fault because we ate all the food...the food that was given to us after we had ordered the lunch. read more
