I had been to the Tea Spa further south on 355, and I thought I'd try the Rockville Town Center location. Unfortunately, I paid more and got less. First, the reservation process and finding the spot were both frustrating. The person on the phone spoke in a whisper and couldn't/wouldn't speak up when asked. The "near the courthouse" was completely unhelpful, since there are FOUR courthouses in Town Center (Red Brick, Grey, District, and Circuit). The room was fine, and thankfully, the bed was toasty warm on a rainy, chilly day. Zoe wore both a mask (fine) and gloves (less fine for me). She spoke softly and with an accent that made communication impossible. She didn't tell me what she was doing to my face or what type of products she was using. The 45 minute facial was less than that, despite paying $20 more for that location. And, unlike the outlet further south, there was no relaxing tea and biscuits following the facial. From the parking lot, the place is pretty unassuming as it is wedged between The Original Pancake House and Medstar clinic. You walk up some stairs that give a "hole in the wall" feeling. Once you arrive at the suite, the decor is nice and the staff are friendly. The massage tables are warm and the masseuses are considerate in asking if you're comfortable during the massage. Knowledge on giving a Swedish combo massage. My daughter scheduled an hour appointment for a Swedish combo massage, the masseuse was Jesse. I was very disappointed in the massage that I received. He used his forearms and his elbows for majority of the massage instead of using his hands to massage I told him that he needed to massage my neck and shoulder, and he used his elbow. My arms and legs. he used his hands to press down like he was flattening a hamburger patty, not massaging. I felt like he didn't like his job as a massage therapist. Very disappointed. I walked in 20 minutes early expecting to go over the massage I was looking for and fill out paperwork, but there was none of that. I was a little skeptical because my massage therapist, Lisa, wasn't aware of the massage I even signed up for, but I let her know before we got started. Honestly, we didn't need a consult. She got all the knots out, applied the perfect amount of pressure, and focused on the areas I talked about during the massage. The techniques she used were almost like the massages you find in Asia. She also focused on the lymph nodes in my neck and armpit area and it was SERIOUSLY THE BEST! For my treatment, I chose lemongrass for aromatherapy. After searching on Yelp! I came across Tea Spa and scheduled a Swedish massage for 80 minutes. The online booking system is easy to use. I originally scheduled it for 1PM but rescheduled for 3PM. Even through you can schedule online, you must call to reschedule depending on how close your appointment is to the original time. To save yourself time, complete the intake forms online. The location itself is in the same plaza as Original Pancake House. The spa is upstairs. Be sure to pay attention to parking spaces. Most are labeled for the other businesses. Once upstairs, the spa is next door to the salon. Once I arrived, I was greeted my the hostess. Check in was quick and easy. Now to the massage itself... PROs: my massage was great. The therapist used the right about of pressure and targeted all pain points. She was super sweet! CONs: Noise. There is no separation from the front waiting area and the rooms. You hear everything. The staff should be more conscious about noise when massages are underway. This was annoying. Overall, I had a good visit. The verdict is still out if I'll come back. I had the pleasure of having a couple's massage here during father's day weekend. It was a treat I planned for my husband. I had a Groupon voucher and called to schedule. It was easy! I like how they called in advance to confirm that we were still coming. I know that should be common practice, but I feel like I've booked massages at other places where I was not given a reminder. The massage was good, I have no complaints. My masseuse was attentive and checked in multiple times to ensure that the pressure was good and that I was comfortable. The size of the room was decent. Music was relaxing. It's unfortunate that sometimes you can hear what was going on in the lobby though. I was not offered any membership plan, but they did text me a deal some time after my massage which seemed reasonable. I was very surprised to see their tipping policy posted EVERYWHERE (literally everywhere, even in the bathroom). That was offputting. And I also did not like how they want you to tip $20-25 per masseuse. Our massage was $109 w/ the groupon, $170 full price... 20% of $170 is $34 (or $17 each). A $20 tip per masseuse would be almost 24%... Nah, not worth that. It's not even a full hour, just 50 minutes. I was given a gift certificate to Tea Spa by my son and daughter-in-law for Christmas 2022, and experienced my first combined Swedish and deep-tissue massage today. My therapist was Lisa, who was very skilled and attentive to special areas of focus as well as amount of pressure applied. In addition to being a seasoned therapist, she has a gentle and friendly disposition. I'm grateful to my daughter-in-law for the research she did finding a spa, as the positive reviews she found were born out by my experience. The one-hour combined massage is a great value ($119); a standard massage is $109. It all comes down to quality of service, however, which I found to be excellent. A small but relevant example of the quality of service offered here: I received a phone call 30 minutes prior to my appointment alerting me to a minor delay (15 minutes) on the part of the therapist I had made my appointment with. When I asked whether I could keep my original appointment time, the receptionist offered to schedule me with Lisa at the original time. As my review proves, it all worked out very well from my end. It was most considerate of the spa to alert me to the minor delay, and even better that they could accommodate my wish to keep my original time. read more

My wife booked a couples massage for us that included 100 minutes of massages, dessert, and wine. Parking can be a bit tough since it's a small parking lot. The spa is located upstairs, above the urgent care. The lobby area is clean and there are promotional products to look at. We arrived five minutes before our 3:00 pm appointment, but didn't get into our room until closer to 3:10 pm (it would have nice to know what was going on instead of sitting there waiting). The massage itself was amazing. It was the perfect amount of pressure and I could tell that the masseuse read my intake form (which I filled out online beforehand). The 100 minutes consisted of back massage, scalp, and foot massage. The scalp and foot massage add-ons were sooo great. For the dessert portion, we had to leave the spa, and walk down the hall to another room that was set up for us. It's an okay add-on, I wouldn't add it again. It felt strange to walk from the spa room to the other room with a robe on (especially because Tea Spa shares a second floor with a barber shop). I booked an appointment for me and a visiting friend (who doesn't reside in Rockville and drove for an hour to get there) but lo and behold, when we got there, the lady/receptionist said we don't have an appointment. But the lady/receptionist (I assume the owner) vehemently denied getting my phone call. I asked her who was the receptionist who answered my call and supposedly booked my appointment (I showed her my phone record with duration and specific time) but she evaded my question. She was NEVER apologetic but very defensive! No apology to our wasted time and very unprofessional behavior - NOT acceptable especially in a place where you're supposed to be relaxed and stressed-free. I received my first ever professional massage so I do not have much of a frame of reference when it comes to those things. Nonetheless, I greatly enjoyed the experience. I went there as part of a Groupon for a couple massage and didn't really know what to expect. The place was clean and my masseuse(Michelle) was pretty friendly confirming my preferences before the massage started. The darkened room, soothing music, and warm table combination made me relaxed to the point of starting to fall asleep. As for the massage itself, all the muscles were worked on and the back soreness I received from having a desk job was gone when it was all said and done so definitely good job there. I even got a complimentary cup of tea as we were leaving so all in all I am pretty happy and so was my girlfriend. I treated my daughter to celebrate her birthday and new job. I'd had a so so experience a few years ago at the Tea Spa in Silver Spring, but this place seemed to offer something a tad bit more. Maybe it was the name addition. We arrived 15 minutes before our appointment, completed the intake forms, and were ushered into our sauna area on time. I should say that the reason I chose this place was because they feature a mother daughter spa experience which includes Swedish massage, facials and refreshments. But because of a scheduling issue, where there supposedly wasn't going to be enough room for us to have facials ( apparently there was a full day of facials on the books), we couldn't have the mother/daughter. We ended up doing something modified. And less expensive (although I wasn't concerned about cost for this outing). The sauna was 30 minutes, and did the job. Thoroughly enjoyed. Then we were ushered into a curtained off area- attached to the sauna area where Linda and Ann provided firm and effective manipulation of our muscles. Thoroughly enjoyed! The ONLY negative thing was...that particular room in the parlor shares a wall with the hair salon/barber shop next door. And the boisterous conversations and laughter were VERY distracting, rendering the dim lighting and calming sound effects of no effect whatsoever. I spent most of my time on the table trying not to tense up whenever the laughter would swell on the other side of the wall. That, and trying to figure out what Tea Spa could do to eliminate the noise...maybe by never using that space for massages? Barber shops and beauty parlors are meant for the kinds of fun and free socializing I heard going on. But it's a horrible pairing being next door to a place meant for relaxation. Another thing. My daughter and I were there for nearly 2 hours and there weren't any customers when we arrived or when we left. So. I had to wonder what really happened to the booked room where we couldn't have our facials. All in all, my daughter did enjoy her experience and wasn't as bothered about the noise as I was. Also, kudos to them for not pushing membership. I think they have some good fees and benefits, and excellent ginger tea! Probably won't go back to this one. There's another location in Gaithersburg.
