Had a combined birthday party here on November 4 of this year with 38 kids including babies. (Ages…read more1-11) Pros: -They helped set up/clean up -Coaches were friendly -Up to however many kids you wanted -Reasonable price for party Cons: -No real communication between owner Jenny and coaches (coach was unaware of size of party) -Lots of waiting around for instruction -no water break -kids were told to not go in foam pit -not organized The kids were kind of kept away from the foam pit. Almost like the foam pit was sacred space. There were 3 coaches but only 1 really giving instruction. So instead of 3 groups of kids it was just 1 big group. Lots of waiting around for instruction. They played hide and seek for most of the time. I had a few kids come tell me they wanted to play in the foam pit and use the foam pads but were denied. Also, no water breaks. The older kids told me after that they were denied water and told to wait until it was time to eat which was another 30 min later. I had great communication with Jenny up until after the party when I went to give her feedback. This is the text I sent her," Good morning Jenny, thank you for letting us have my kids birthday party at your gym. Just a few things before I forget. There was a lot of waiting around and definitely not enough free play. I understand it was a large group but this should have been thought through and organized to accommodate our group size. My deciding factor to come to this gym was the gym itself and half of the time the kids were waiting around for instruction and playing hide and seek. Also, there were no water breaks. We had a few kids who asked for a water and they were told to wait until it was time to eat, which didn't happen for another 30 min. All and in all most kids had a great time. My family had experienced a couple different gyms in the Bay and when looking into an extracurricular for our kid in the Valley, we knew there were a few key things that were important to us. First, a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. Second, coaches who care for the safety of the students as much as their progress. Third, a place that treated each student equally, challenging them to be better each class. I'm happy to say that Charles Gracie Academy in Mountain House met all these expectations and more. From the first day we signed up our kid, we got a "welcome to the family" from the coaches. It felt warm and inviting, especially for a nervous kid joining the 4-6 age group. This age group is not easy to manage, but somehow at each class the coaches succeed in coaching them to listen and follow through as best they can. Watching from the sidelines, I can see how much patience, firmness, and diligence it takes to wrangle the low attention span this group has collectively. While they are teaching the fundamentals of the sport, the coaches make it fun, too. If they're not having fun, what's the point, right? In a year, I watched my kid grow and thrive thanks in part to the influence of discipline and focus from training at this jiu jitsu academy. He's developing into a kid who will have self-control, self-confidence, awareness and most of all can kick ass if an occasion calls for it. Don't hesitate on this place. Go check it out. Its a trail offer to see if you like the class or not from others I've called offer trials are for free But this one charges! I don't have any issue with this so I give it 3 stars as its just ok. 2. If you like the class and wish to proceed they charge 1 time $89.00 Enrollment fee Why ? and what's it used for is beyond me ? Most to my knowledge don't charge any Enrollment fee and since it goes to nothing and no uniform I see that as money in the facilities pockets so I give them 1 star in times with COVID AND JOB LOSSES I see this as a major negative impact on the consumer! 3. THIS ONE WAS THE MAJOR DECIDING FACTOR THAT EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE MADE AWARE OF: They will make you sign a 12 month revolving contract with a 3rd party vendor from what I have heard has poor reviews with BBB that American Top Team/Traditional Martial Arts Studio has no control over and I as well as others need to be cautious of and read the contract very carefully! I did not read this contract because I have never been to the facility but, I did ask lots of questions and offered to pay 12 months in cash in advanced but apparently that wasn't an option! Why ? Use you imagination. If I was to guess I would say someone is making money from you or I by signing those contract because this 3rd party are not processing payments for free and martial arts studio has to be making money as well for their time in explaining and having you sign those contract ! something is not right and everyone needs to be aware of that . On a personal note : I don't understand why the Studio Are unable or unwilling to process there own recurring payments because I deal with small and some large companies all the time and some have lots of customers and every one of them process their own recurring payments as its done all the time without the need for any contract to make the customer feel comfortable instead of trapped into some contract . there just has to be an easier way: so for this I give (- 1 star) Very Disappointing phone call !

My son is autistic, so we decided to start with private lessons. Following instructions can be challenging for my son, but Mr. Castro has shown incredible patience, kindness, and understanding. He truly took the time to build trust with my son, and that has made all the difference. We've seen such meaningful progress -- my son is now able to follow instructions and always tries his very best in every session. We truly appreciate the care and dedication that goes into working with him. My daughter has grown so much since joining as well. She's becoming stronger, more disciplined, and confident. Out of all the activities she's tried, martial arts is the one she loves the most. She stays focused in class and is currently enrolled in kickboxing, but she's always curious about the other martial arts programs they offer. I love seeing both of them grow stronger!
