Only when I asked and said I thought I was going to see Dr Joseph Dehyar, then the son said that he was going to see me instead but that they'd bill under his father's name. That sounded very strange to me, and even weirder that no one, not the receptionist nor the dentist said anything about how they decided to give me a different dentist that day. The exam and cleaning happened, they told me there were many things wrong with my teeth and pushed me to get surgery. When I went to check out the receptionist said, "so what time next week do you want to come in for surgery?" just assuming I was going to get surgery. In my past few years of regular checkups no dentist has said I needed surgery, my last visit being just 6 months before. It all seemed sketchy. I'm going back to my other dentist.

On the one hand I always had a good experience with the hygienists and there have been few issues with insurance. I used to see Dr. Bunin who I thought was great but he left to go to another firm. Initially, I did find Dr. Argentieri to be somewhat abrasive, however, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, and I have always gotten along with him just fine. Both my husband and I have had extensive work done there and would get my teeth cleaned twice a year. They always took the time to take my blood pressure and it always felt like they cared about their patients. Until recently. I had an appointment for a regular cleaning but I had to cancel it because I had to work at the last minute. I am a real estate agent and I was called to show a house about an hour away the same morning of my appointment. I was not going to be able to get back in time for my appointment. It was an impossible situation because my client works at night so she was not going to be able to view the home in the evening and she couldn't schedule it for another day. I tried. Karen, whom I had never met before, was rude to me over the phone. She told me that since it was inside 24 hours (it was about 20 hours), I would be charged a missed appointment fee. In six years I was NEVER charged a missed appointment fee. NEVER. I'm sure it must have happened at least once due to the nature of my job, but I had never been charged for it. I was stunned. She would not talk to me, she just kept repeating the same thing over and over again. I live about 5 minutes away so I drove over there to speak to her directly. I could not believe I was being treated that way after being a patient for so long. She showed ZERO understanding about my job and could not answer why, after six years I was suddenly being charged this fee. I wasn't even aware that there WAS a missed appointment fee because I had never been charged one before. I tried to be reasonable with her. TBH, I just wanted her to tell me that they would not charge me this time, since there was no warning, but with the understanding that going forward, I would be charged, but no. She just kept repeating that it was policy and insisted that I would be charged for it. She had no regard for how long I'd been a customer nor how much $ we'd spent there over the years. It was really disgusting the way she treated me. THEN, to make matters worse, she told me that she was cancelling all my future cleaning appointments and that the only way they would see me again is if I came in as a walk in. (This woman does not know the meaning of negotiation nor goodwill.) This happened several months ago but I was prompted to write this review because my husband (we are separated) recently had work done there and the bills still come to the house. I noticed that the $110 charge is still on the bill, so it reminded me of what happened and that there has obviously been no resolution. I was very comfortable and happy going there for over six years, happy with Drs. A and C and the two hygienists that I have seen over the years. But Karen ruined everything for me.

BAD BILLING PRACTICE!!! There is only one side to this story. Let me begin. I went to see Dr…read more Jelinek for TMJ pain, which is covered by my insurance BCBS, and it was verified that he is in network. It was understood by the office that my treatment would be covered by insurance when using the proper codes for claims. Imagine my surprise when I received a massive bill because the claim was DENIED. To get to the bottom of this, I had BCBS do a 3 way call with Patricia from billing to ensure their office adhered to proper protocol (using proper coding and timely submission). The wonderful BCBS insurance rep walked her through on what codes to use. Despite this, Patricia still submitted the wrong codes (not even TMJ codes, but instead for snoring- a problem I do not have). This obviously resulted in the claims getting denied, leaving me responsible for the full balance. This is best case careless and worst case, fraudulent. She didn't have the decency to inform me that the claims were denied and instead sent the bill straight to a collections agency. Imagine my surprise when I received a notice from COLLECTIONS!! Of course the letter from collections is when I learned something was clearly going wrong. I reached out to BCBS and I called Patricia immediately and she claimed she sent a bill 7 times to my confirmed home address, but I never received any bills. I spent hours on the phone with BCBS trying to figure out what went wrong only to learn that ALL the fault was on the office's end. If Patricia had filed the codes correctly like she was told, I wouldn't be hung with a full bill. Collections was actually lovely, and gave me time to figure things out. In the midst of this, I had one appointment with Dr. Jelinek and during that appointment, he rudely tried to get me to pay the bill in full, complaining he hasn't gotten paid in months and he has to pay his rent and staff. I told him the new corrected claims haven't finished processing and he needs to wait for that to go through. He has a contract with BCBS in which he has to respect the agreed rate and write off the rest, but instead he balance billed me (charging a patient more than the allowed amount) hoping to get paid in full, which is illegal in the state of VA. Balance billing is unethical. He eventually got paid by insurance and I was ready to move forward with treatment. At my next appointment, he told me he will no longer deal with insurance and I would be responsible for paying each visit in full. He said dealing with insurance is a waste of his time, even though I was the one doing all the work. He told me he is not a bank and cannot wait months to get paid as he has to pay his staff. I had to remind him that the reason was Patricia and her negligence with the codes. He said he did not want to talk about it. I wish someone had told me of his new payment policy before the appointment because I would have canceled. He waited for me to arrive to tell me this, wasting both his time and mine. He has zero regards for his patients, scamming them hoping to get maximum payment. Patricia is a nightmare to work with, an absolute royal pain- so rude even the insurance rep was shocked the way she spoke to her and Dr. Jelinek is just outright unprofessional. Lastly, the office could use an update as the decor is stuck in the 1970's.

He also hums along with the music sometimes, which gave me warm recollections of Jeff Almo when I saw him in the Broadmoor at Porter and Connecticut.
