Unfortunately Techlab has gone way downhill. The java one class was deeply unrigorous and the teaching very hands off. Im trying to enroll my child in a java two class elsewhere and he is not ready to take it. They did not cover enough material in java one and it was very dumbed down. I hope u can use this info to improve your teaching. read more

Our kids (middle schoolers) had a great time at the TechLab Education Summer camp. It was a full day camp, where they learned to code with Arduino, and eventually made a very cool project - an automatic system for watering a plant. The kids had a lot of fun while learning useful skills in a friendly, easygoing, and welcoming environment. I would highly recommend this camp to anyone who likes hands-on coding and working with real electronics. read more

My son was going to Techlab in their prior location for programming classes and he enjoyed it, but they closed down last year. He was extremely thrilled when he found out that they are opening in a new location near 85 & DeAnza Blvd junction. He had learnt a lot of programming concepts when he attended during his elementary school days, now that he is in middle school he is eager to learn more and there is no better place than Techlab Education to do that. I took him to the open house at the new location and he was super excited to see the additional courses in the curriculum. I first joined Techlab through taking an Intro to Java class the summer before I started college. I enjoyed my time so much that I was motivated to continue studying computer science in college, and ended up majoring in CS - Techlab played a pivotal role in leading me to this path! After graduating, I came back to work at Techlab as a teacher - to give back and provide mentorship to students. I was especially passionate about teaching Girls' Programming classes, given my own experiences as a woman in CS, and thoroughly enjoyed working with students and watching them grow as coders over the course of just a week or two. As an APM at Google, I continue to be involved in Techlab in many ways and would recommend the classes to anyone interested in learning new programming skills - the curriculum is challenging and fun to work with, and Shalini and Raj are phenomenal leaders! read more

Keshav and his team has been working with both of our boys since elementary school days and they have been nothing but awesome! The best of learning was that it was fun: building a hardware from scratch and then programming it to make it work! We went to the 15-minute free consultation session and nobody showed up. Called the number and someone called us back in 5 minutes and told us no class today and that's why nobody is there. When we asked why you made an appointment for us in the first place, his answer is that it's a free consultation and we are currently focusing on fall sessions and have no time for such session. I just can't believee this guy 's attitude. It's so unprofessional. Thank God I didn't sign my daughter up for this place and never will. read more

We were fortunate to try a series of Java game design classes through the library. Keshav was able to make programming accessible to even a computer-phobic person like me! His passion came through which made programming fun and interesting. I enjoyed his top-down approach and focus on problem-solving and creativity. In the past, my 10 year old daughter took a class where game design through coding was taught in a dry, rote fashion which turned her off to programming. Thanks to Keshav, she is now interested in learning more! I highly recommend Keshav as an instructor. He is patient, kind, and helpful. read more

My 9yo daughter took two weeks of half-day summer camp at TechLab. She learned to code in Python and built a robot with Arduino. She really enjoyed her time there! We hope to continue with TechLab, perhaps with a weekly class once school starts. She thought the instructors were mostly very good, and she liked the format of the camps (she had adequate guidance and attention, she could get her questions answered, and she liked the challenges given. In fact, as a super bright kid, my daughter isn't normally challenged enough in the classroom, and she thought this camp was a good challenge for her -- hooray!). We are so happy we found TechLab! We were looking for a place for our son where he would be challenged in coding in Java, Python and the latest trends in software practices, and found this in TechLab. They have the people talent and drive to nurture kids who want to learn and move at their own pace. They've been great in creating unique cryptography and game-oriented projects for my son to stay engaged. They really take the time to get to know their individual students and meet them where there are, challenging them at any level. Our son loves it and we couldn't be happier! read more

We did not have a good experience with Techlab. My son attended beginner Python class, teacher was nice, however Raj was egoistic and has no empathy or compassion for students growth. With Raj recommendation, I enrolled my son in 2 week Intermediate python, on first day my son texted me that it is too advanced for him and he dislikes Python. I approached Raj and asked if he can switch to any other camp, I suggested beginner Java camp and to keep the credit so we can enroll him for fall as no other camps we like for this summer. He told me he is the youngest in this class and wants him to repeat beginner python, which he is already done and not interested. When I requested to keep the credit and enroll him in beginner Java, Raj states he doesn't fit here, he needs a customized plan and go elsewhere to find another camp. He is rude and negligent in handling situation. I am happy to move on to other camps as I clearly see this place cannot handle genuine issues arise by parents and does not support students interest. I would not recommend this place! read more

While searching for a python/java summer camp, all of which costs around $1500 per week, in 2014, I came across this TechLab. Being a highly conscientious shopper and geek mom, I tried to connect with the company over a period of a few months. It initially appeared to me that they were not too organized, which made me wary at first until I read about Keshav's educational background (University of Illinois, highly ranked for Computer Science). After checking their prices/schedule, $50 for 2 hours, I felt it was worth a try. I took my son (11 years old) there for his first workshop on Sat. Being engineers, both my husband and I stayed for a few weeks to assess the workshops. From the beginning we were impressed with Keshav's ability to make the class "fun" and educational (relating learning computer science to math and video games). I need to qualify "fun" because this Java workshop is for kids who are interested. For kids who are young (my son), Java is tough and will require time. For parents who expect immediate results (i.e. 1 week camp, a few months = an expert), my experience is that unless the kid spends a lot of time doing the programming at home, it will not happen immediately. Although we saw no progress for a few months, my son always asked to go to the workshop. I think the reason is that it provided a fun club atmosphere. My son recently did some assignments at home by himself because he was interested in developing the game, and that's where he learned the most. From this experience, I learned that for average kids who like the idea of developing games and math, the Java club is fun and interactive. I recommend it to all parents who like to cultivate an interest in programming. If your kids is not nerdy, I do recommend other classes that Techlab offers. I recommended the website development camp to my friend's son, who told me that he loved it. So there is a workshop for everyone. My son tried out few beginner java workshops and now continue to intermediate java. Teachers are good and friendly. For example, Keshav is very good at making the class fun. They use firebase so kids can make multi-player games together. Teachers really encourage questions and ideas during the class. The atmosphere is more like a computer club than a formal programming class. My son is really enjoying the lesson. He has learnt a lot of basic programming concepts from them. He can now write some games all by himself. I think this school is a very good place for your kids to explore computer programming. read more

I just went to Techlab for a week taking the Java class. For every day of the week I was always listening to the advice and instantly got into writing my own projects. In only one week of camp I learned arrays, array lists, constructers, methods, and much more. This was a very fun class and I am doing more this summer. The instructors are very helpful and patient and they help you with every problem. At Techlab we made tons of games including Frogger, Agar.io, Conway's Game of Life, Drawing games, Bouncing Ball games, and we also made our own games. I made a game with my sister called Fall Down which involves a ball that rolls side to side with the use of arrow keys and the objective is to reach the bottom of the screen. In camp they had multiple helpers with us all the time, they would help us understand anything we may of missed in the lesson and help us catch up. At Techlab they didn't just give us the answers without the students learning anything. Instead they and helped us know the answers and truly understand the class. I'm a 13 year old kid and I loved Techlab. I would recommend this camp to anyone, whether you are interested in any of the eight classes that they teach. Thanks Keshav, Alex P.S.
