The reviews mentioning the rude staff appear to be true, based on my experience. I called about asking for a console cleaning and trouble shoot for a console not receiving power, likely a very simple fix. They wouldn't accept the job since the console had been opened in the past citing 'liability' concerns. The receptionist was rude and condescending during the encounter. This was a trial run as I planned on giving them a lot of console work in the future but I will be going elsewhere. I called another repair shop shortly after and they said they would take the job no problem and were able to essentially diagnose the problem over the phone (a solution consistent with that I explained over the phone). Perhaps Replay'd should adjust their policies and their attitude towards potential customers as they never know what opportunities may be lying on the other line. read more

Replay'd was on my list of spots I wanted to check out in Allston during my visit to the Boston area. Even though it's a small shop, there is a great selection of retro and current-gen games, at reasonable prices. There were a lot of cool display cases that had vintage hardware and games, which is always neat to see in retro game stores. I was particularly interested in PS2 games, and they did not disappoint. I picked up a handful of pretty well-priced PS2 games and saw a lot of other games that caught my interest, too. Another cool thing about this store is that they have a stack of old strategy guides. I saw the Donkey Kong 64 guide calling out to me, as it's one of my all-time favorite games. That was so neat to find! All-in-all, this is a great shop. We should try and support more of these stores if we can, while they're still around. I'm glad Allston has a solid store that seems to serve its community of gamers well. read more

We have been going here for years and I can say with confidence that they are the best in our area if you are having gaming issues. We recently took a repair to them. They do not charge you just for looking at the equipment and they will tell you if (1) they can repair it, (2) how much it will cost, and (3) if it is worth the repair. They fixed it within the week and the price was not terrible or unreasonable. This is not the first time we took something to be repaired and considering all the retro systems we have it will not be the last. My kids also like the retro games and this is the local place that will hook you up with what you want. Again, the price point is not horrendous for what you get. read more

I went in there and was greeted by some guy who kept interrupting me when I was trying to give him background information about the N64 games I had brought in to sell (one had peripherals). He manhandled my N64, was condescending, and refused to transact with me at the end. But one thing bothered me more than that. A Latin man with a backpack came in while he was in the middle of...I dunno what he was doing, and he said aloud "buying or selling?" to himself, as to suggest the Latin man would never be buying at this store. That didn't sit well with me, and it literally kept me up at night. I left a Google review, only discussing the first part of my experience. The owner replied, calling me a bully. I just wanna listen to my music the way I want to and the way it was created by the artists. That's why I was so broken-hearted when my CD player (300-CD changer) broke. Mystified about why these magic machines are no longer for sale, I went looking for someone willing to figure out how to fix it. The good folks at Replay'd took good care of me and my machine. They spent time researching and tinkering with my beloved dinosaur, called me with updates, and found a creative solution. When I went to pick it up on a Saturday, the place was bustling. The employees took in broken iPads, sold replacement cables, and located vintage games with efficiency & a smile. Now I'm back in action with a treasure trove of my old tunes. If I could give this place no stars I would. I walk in there about 15 minutes before closing time to sell a few phones I had lying around the house and to purchase a new one. They decide they can only take one phone, which was fine. I pocketed the ones they weren't going to take and the clerk proceeds to run a 'check' on the one that they are going to sell. She takes the phone behind the counter and proceeds to go through her checklist, which she never shared with me, despite me asking what she was checking for. About 5-10 minutes later she comes back and tell me they can't take the phone because it's faulty and it won't turn on. This is where things took a turn for the worse.... When the clerk gave me my phone back saying it didn't work, I remained as calm as possible. Imagine walking into a store with a working piece of equipment, only to be told 10 minutes later that it's broken. I didn't raise my voice and I calmly asked the clerk what she did to cause the phone to not turn on. She said "I didn't do anything. All I did was put the phone through a reset and it didn't turn on. We are not responsible for faulty equipment." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I had run a hard reset on the phone not 3 hours prior to walking into the store and it ran the reset fine. At this point a large gentleman walks over to the counter and begins telling me that his store isn't responsible for faulty equipment. He then tells me that I 'saw' her run the reset. At that point I informed him that from where I was standing (about 8 feet from her workstation) I could not have possibly seen anything that she was doing to the phone. So at this point, the guy gets sarcastic and berating and ultimately tells me to leave the store. I told him I wasn't leaving until they fixed my phone. He grabs the phone and takes it back to the same workstation where the girl was working and starts clicking away at the computer, presumably looking for a way to fix the phone. He walks over to me not a minute later and says my phone turned on and now I would have to leave the store. Essentially the reset worked. The phone needed time to go through the process. At this point, I am thoroughly disgusted because I came here to support this guy's business and he's done nothing but make me feel like I was trying to cheat his business out of money. As I am walking out of the store I hear him call me a 'douche bag.' Very unprofessional company. The owner can be assured that my Chamber of Commerce buddies will hear about this awful business. read more

jailbreak w/ cydia and unlock of post-contract iphone 3GS running iOS 4.1 in ~10 mins for $15. Seamlessly switched to T-mobile. Replay'd was great. I personally like the idea of a store that focuses on recycling consumer electronics -- through upgrades, re-sales and re-purchasing. It is environmentally and consumer conscious. Customer service: They were very friendly and the service was very fast. It was ~6pm and they close ~7pm, so it wasn't a super-busy time, but they immediately asked if I needed help. They were fast and knowledgeable (i.e. I asked about upgrading my old macbook and got quick and experienced answers). Selection: A small-ish selection of used/refurbished consumer electronics -- ~10 cameras, ~50 phones (locked and unlocked), ~30 ipods DVD/music players, video games, ~4 computers. I can't comment on their computer/video game selection because I don't play, but they had a selection of computer/video games and game-play manuals. They had some re-sales at great prices ex: Macbook 10.6, 4G ram, 260G hard drive ~2.6 Ghz chip for $600, or 1G iPod shuffle 2nd gen for $15. Service/Parts: Their charge for labor is very, very low. I've priced upgrades on my computer at several places and this was to date the lowest price. I haven't taken my computer there yet, but I will soon and will report back with an update. In the meantime, I urge others to check them out. They seem like a gem in the making. read more

I've been going to Replay'd for the last few years and every time it has been a great experience. I can assuredly say that they have the best and most knowledgeable customer service/sales people of any business I've been to. Each employee I've worked with has been very helpful and I was attended to right away. Surprisingly, it is extremely difficult to find vintage video games and systems in this city. Replay'd is a valuable resource even if you have only a slight idea of what you're looking for. I've picked up a bunch of Sega Genesis/Wii games here as well as extra controllers and accessories for great prices. Whenever a friend brings up video games or electronics, I recommend them to this store. Students also get a 10% discount which always helps! read more

Was there yesterday & had my iPhone 3Gs fixed (that had been ruined with water) talked to someone right away & it was fixed in like a half an hour for like 1/3 of the price the apple store had given me - I was told if it didn't work, just to bring it back & it would be taken care of. Everybody seemed pretty friendly & as a fan of classic gaming, am glad to have this place nearby...especially since they said they could fix my Nintendo. I came back and got the phone, paid, and left. 2 phone calls after, the original problem came back and a lot more problems started happening that never existed before. Phone repaired faster than promised, but they get a mixed review. :-( First of all, if I could give them 3.5 stars and not 3, I would. Despite coming in w/the least expensive estimate for repair & fixing my problem faster than promised I have to give them a less than glowing review -- and I'm bummed about that. And it all comes down to customer service during the pick up and some janky power cables in the store. My old & somewhat out of date Galaxy S2 screen got cracked. I contacted several stores in the area and Replay'd came in with the cheapest estimate: $65 which beat the next lowest -- $120 -- handily. The guy I talked to on the phone was excellent. He made it clear they would replace the digitizer and the the glass, but they would have to order the part. When I went into the store a few hours later he remembered me. The repair time estimate was 3-5 business days. The store itself is neat & tidy. I had a very positive impression and was happy to leave my phone there. I was even happier when I got a call over the weekend that the phone was ready. When I went to pick up the phone I tried to turn it on to verify it worked. The battery was dead. IMO, this is like getting your car back from the shop w/flat tires. They should have charged the phone, but whatever. I asked the young lady helping me to connect the phone to a microUSB cable so I could power it on. She did, but it didn't pick up any charge. Weird. She tried another: no joy. I started getting worried. When I dropped off the phone it did charge -- the red charging LED would come on when it was plugged in, even if the screen didn't work at all. At this point the woman helping me took the phone to the back of the store without explaining what was going on and then started helping a nice elderly couple next to me pick out a game for their grandchild. This didn't give me the warm fuzzies. I motioned to another person behind the counter & asked what was up w/my phone and he went to the back of the store. I felt abandoned by the woman who just went off to help other customers in the middle of what was becoming a problematic interaction. At this point the tech who apparently had done the actual work came out from the back of the store with my phone. He said that the power slot on my phone was broken. When I said it was working when I brought it in, he said there was no way I could have known this and said it probably broke when the screen did. From the get go, he was fairly combative and took absolutely no ownership of the problem. He suggested perhaps the phone only worked with the particular cable I use at home. And then he said it would require a replacement of the phone's board to fix the problem. I was not ready to start throwing more money at the problem, so I left the store with my phone (yes, after paying). I got to my car, plugged in my phone to the cable and ... it picked up a charge just fine. I tried it with three different chargers at home. Worked fine on each of them. Tried it with a USB battery charger -- worked just fine. Both the chargers in my office? No problem. The phone has been working just fine and I ought to be happy. Which leads me to the question: are all the microUSB power cables in Replay'd really that janky? So, that's how a store that delivers on the lowest quote in a faster than promised time gets a less than glowing review. With very iffy customer service on the back end. If everything goes smoothly, they're fine. If something doesn't? They didn't show any ownership of the issue or even any sympathy. :-/ read more

On a snowy November night my Iphone fell out of my parka pocket into the seat of a taxicab and was lost and gone forever. After two days of waiting I needed a quick replacement so I first ventured to CEX and made the mistake...BIG MISTAKE...of buying an awful and outdated LG smart phone for sixty bucks. The idiot hispter behind the counter told me it was a decent phone for the price and was "basically brand new". I was desperate so I believed him and ended up wasting my money. Also the phone itself caused me so much unnecessary angst, which I'm slightly embarrassed to admit. The charging port was screwed up, it would randomly turn on and off as it pleased, and the touch screen would often freeze. Long story short, I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO CEX AS LONG AS I LIVE IN BOSTON. Randomly I decided to hop off the 57 bus and walked into Replay'd. Thanks to their solid and super attentive staff I now have a brand new (only opened never used) preowned Iphone and it works beautifully. The young guy who helped me out the most was personable and trustworthy. I could tell he could relate to my frustration and wanted to help me out with a good deal. He gave me the option of trading in my shit phone so he could put the price towards the new one. Although the LG wasn't worth much it still knocked off a chunk of the price. I ended up spending a total of forty-five minutes at the store and walked out so happy. Well I figured I'd update this review based off of recent visits, (and speaking as a retro gamer/collector with a ton of games in my collection). Not too long ago I could go into Replay'd and feel like I left with a good deal (compared to inflated online prices in particular), but as of late that hasn't been the case. Loose cart SNES games that were once 50cents-2$ are now 3-5$, and everything else is priced right at what you'd find on Ebay, (sometimes more since they price look up something, put it in the case, and the market on a given game/system might tank with more people selling it then when they checked). You can't barter or do "bulk" deals like other places, and that further complicates the pricing. PROTIP:: SNES sports carts should NEVER be 4-5$ a piece given how common they are. You are never going to sell those. Anyways, the major reason I liked dropping money in here was because I WASN'T paying Ebay prices, but slightly below them. I've purchased games in there that were 20$ online, and priced 12-14$... not a huge deal but it adds up and encourages me to snag more when I'm there. Now it seems they've made a further concentrated effort to match those "bay" prices. Great for locals I guess who don't want to pay/wait for shipping, but bad for us bargain game hunters who would rather pay slightly less for our hobby. I used to make it a point to visit here once or twice a month as my schedule permitted, but that is going to change to once every other month given what I've seen happen to their pricing, (and only then because it's so close to where I live). read more

The sales associate is absolutely terrible and not helpful at all. I called in trying to see what items (games, consoles, etc.) they accept and a ball-park range for pricing. He wouldn't answer the question at all, and kept just saying "I don't know they are all different." Even when I would give him specifics, his only response was, "I don't know." Further, I asked him what the lowest price for the worst game they could think of would be and asked if it would be ten cents...and once again, he said "I don't know." It's a pretty fair question to see if they would decline games or if they would offer buying games for as low as a dime, but he had absolutely no interest in giving me any type of helpful information. This place has definitely lost any interest I had in doing business with them. Absolutely awful -- this is the exact reason businesses don't do well...unwilling and unfriendly employees. read more

My wife dropped her Galaxy SIII right on its screen in the five minutes of the day where she took it out of its protective case to put in a new SD card. Completely shattered the glass and everywhere we looked for repairs seemed like a sketchy mall kiosk that wanted at least $225 to fix the glass with a week long turnaround time. Facing those options or T-Mobile enrolling us in Jump or whatever the hell they're masking their upgrade scam under we felt hopeless. Enter Replay'd. The Yelp reviews (particularly for phone repairs) piqued our interest and the prompt response to our email for a service estimate got us in the store this past week. The staff was extremely helpful and although they didn't have the screen for her phone they ordered it to do the repair later in the week. We tried to pay up front and were told that they only took payment once the phone was repaired (this was a huge selling point) so instead we browsed their excellent video game selection and picked up a cheap 360 game. Current (well now, last gen) consoles Replay'd game prices are excellent. New games that still retail for $60 new/$55 used at Gamestop sell for between $40-42 at Replay'd. Never got around to picking up an older AAA title on PS3/360? There's a great chance you can pick it up for $7 or less at Replay'd. Anyway, Replay'd got the glass in on Wednesday but rather than sitting in Thanksgiving travel traffic to get there after work we let them know we'd be in on Friday. Friday afternoon we dropped the phone off, got an hour estimate, grabbed lunch across the street and by the time we came back 45 minutes later the phone was already done. No complaints at all with the work or the price. read more

Replay'd is the ONE!., I know there's a lot of haters on the reviews, who complain because something went wrong blah blah. Don't pay attention to them. These people are the real deal. Came in with an Iphone 6 Plus and my screen was SHATTERED. I mean when I took pics with my cracked camera I look like Edward Cullen when he stepped in the sun. It was horrible. They said come back in a hour. When I came back, the screen was fixed and it look new it was amazing. A few days later, my speaker stopped working, they fixed it in 10 mins. THANK YOU!!!!! I've already referred people to you guys, because it is Amazing. They also have a sick selection of video games! Two tips (thank me later) Bring your student ID, they give a discount! Went to this place for a DC jack repair on my motherboard. I had already ordered the part, and explained the problem in detail. After the "repair", they not only couldn't fix the DC jack, but also screwed my display (everything was pink). I asked the technician Bao about the display, and he said that it wasn't his fault, he had done everything right, and that he would not open up the laptop again to check for a loose connection with the display. $60 poorer and disappointed, I opened up the laptop myself, and found the display cable squished in the contours of the case, and not properly placed in the "river" that was made to avoid exactly this. I also got to the motherboard and saw the AWFUL soldering job he had done (did not clean flux, one of the ports wasn't properly soldered - there was a gap). The display issue however was fixed, so I finally sent it into the manufacturer who replaced the DC jack. Now my laptop is working again, no thanks to Replay'd. read more

These guys are great! They have a surprisingly good selection of older video game stuff, including NES era stuff. If you find yourself jonesin' for some N64 action, this is the place you want to go. Good prices on stuff too. I got a Wii component cable (an OFFICIAL one) for $15 used. Not too shabby. They also have a bunch of cell phones, locked and unlocked. The guys behind the counter all really know what they were talking about. This place is an awesome addition to the neighborhood, and I am now on my way to being a regular. read more

I came here after looking around town for a place to unlock my iPhone 3G. One place quoted it as $75, another at $30. Looked on Craigslist too, but thought an actual shop would be more promising. I brought the phone in and it took about 15 minutes and $15! Staff was great, helpful, and reassuring. Unless you're pretty confident in doing it yourself, just bring it here and save yourself the time. Also, avoid other ridiculously priced places, $15 is probably the cheapest you'll be able to find. read more

I've been here several times. All were pretty positive experiences. They have first generation consoles and their games which is pretty cool to see, although I can't tell you about their condition. They have different varieties of gear, but not in ample amounts. I suppose nobody is clamoring for SNES. The used xbox 360 games are in good condition and generally about 20% cheaper than a national competitor (Assassin's Creed Brotherhood went for about $22 when a national competitor was charging $28++,for example). I also bought a new phone charger that ran me only a third of the price of the brand name version and cheaper than I could find online (including shipping). I think their used 360 consoles were a little pricey, but that aside it a pretty good store. The selection is decent for their size. It sometimes hard to find 6 month old gamed or newer. I've had a problem with the customer service, they are helpful and not pushy/persistent which is nice in any store. read more

I recently had the experience of dropping my iphone (that has a screen protector on it) and still getting a cracked screen. I wanted to get it fixed, and Replayd offered the best price for what sounds like the same service that everyone offers (to replace the screen.) I went in, the staff was friendly and they replaced my screen within 30 minutes or less. I was pleased. Later that night, I noticed that I was typing many typos (more than I normally do) when I was texting my friends. As soon as I noticed it, it was as if that was the only thing I could see on the phone. It literally does not take in some letters at random times in the day. The letters "A" and "O:" as welll as the back space button were the most frequent culprits. I contacted Replayd and they told me to restart the phone. I restarted it, still had the same issue. They told me to give it a "factory reset," and that did not work either. Finally, I made my way back there to show them what was wrong and they told me to spend more time with it as it might fix itself. It never did, and I realized that I wasted my $80 going there. Note: If you guys get a cracked iphone screen, dont do what I did. Go to Apple and have them fix iti. You pay more but at least your phone works the way it was intended to work... read more

Well this is where the review is coming from. Replying to Brian. My unpleasant experience with your establishment started with the first employee at the counter, asking me for my information to fill out their form when you give your phone for repair. I asked him instead of me giving me spelling out my information can I just please fill out the form myself. He irritably just told me that he has to do it and that's it. I have a longer last name which takes a bit to spell out so that's why I wanted to do it...and also an odd street name...which takes a bit to spell out too... After me asking him nicely twice just to fill out the form myself he finally explained why he wanted to fill out the form himself. ( it was because he would be able to read his own handwriting....So when he took those 2 seconds to explain why he HAD to fill out the form I agreed for him to fill it out. After the form was filled out he told me to wait for 20 minutes, which we decided to do. While waiting my friend asked him about a price of a product, he irritably told my friend just to look in the case for the price. Then after a bit over 20 minutes I wanted to check on my phone whether it was ready, and if not how much longer it would be. So I politely asked another employee since the guy that helped me at first was busy talking to his colleague about star wars, games something of that sort with his back turned toward the sales floor. The other employee replied "hey he knows you're here, when the phone's ready he will let you know."(in a rude tone) Not a nice "oh let me check for you" Then after the tech came out to tell me what he did to the phone,(the tech was a nice pleasant guy) I agreed that I was all set, and wanted to pay. I came to the register, and now the second guy( the one who told me that when the phone's ready they will call me) was the one taking payment. I did not see him holding my phone, and asked him, if it is okay that I pay now(because the tech told me I was all set)? He rudely told me that "Yeah your phones RIGHT HERE" Anyway. The customer service here sucks. I don't understand why anyone would be rude to their customer. I haven't seen this kind of bad customer service and hospitality at a shop like this yet.
