Fun. Chill. Lively. We arrived at 9 for karaoke on Thurs. The setup was great with a KJ cueing up all the songs and taking requests. We tipped him big at the end of the night because he was so nice and was working so hard. Come on the early side because the later it gets the more crowded it is. Most people there were not doing karaoke though. The bar got pretty full around midnight or so. We had some bar snacks and food with our drinks, which were all great. There weren't many seats later since the place was packed so get there early again if you want to sit. Bartenders were friendly. Young people were kind of loud and a little rowdy (not too horrible though) later on FYI. read more

Not impressed with this establishment. For a Saturday night at 11pm, they were still charging a $20 cover charge?? For what? This isn't the city, it's a northern suburb and a dive bar. Furthermore, they scammed my significant other on the tip. They charge an auto gratuity of 20% so if you aren't paying attention you won't catch it. Upon catching it, the "additional tip was crossed out and the original total was marked below. They charged him anyway for the "additional tip" even though it was crossed out. Great place for live music especially in the summer when the outdoor patio is open. Lots of Grateful Dead cover bands, and other music there. It's a typical bar as far as drink selection but the main draw is the location in Highwood and the good tunes. Server is a shady lady in her late30s or early 40s. We came on a Wednesday night(12/8/21). AWFUL ATTITUDE! We order a Long Island and a margarita. She rudely kept making comments under her breath. " this is your last one" she says, after ordering our FIRST ROUND! Im assuming she was too lazy to make them. We were being extremely friendly to her after the statement. We than asked what music service they use to play music...AGAIN, shit attitude on the response...She obviously hates her job and hates dealing with customers. Why....why would you give this lady a customer facing position. You should be extremely embarrassed. I hope this review gets traction to make some moves to find better employees. Especially in an environment like this. The owner on the other hand was nice, I'm assuming he was the owner or manager. I had made small talk in passing with him, he was nice and personable. Teddy O'Brians is a weekly hangout for my fiancee and I! We come every Monday for Michael's superior bar tending skills. He always provides great conversation and awesome music choices. Michael and Anthony have both had our beers waiting for us as we walked in when they saw us coming through the window, you can't ask for better service! We've also had great service from Jenae and Camille when we've come on the weekends/karaoke nights. Thanks for always providing a great time! Also they have AMAZING food! I do not understand how this bar has such high ratings when Highwood has so much more to offer! Teddy O'Brian's is a dive bars with a bunch of drunk kids who just turned 21 and can barely stand after a drink. The drinks are cheap, the bar is dirty and the people are rowdy. Last night in the 2 hours I was there I broke up two fights... I mean come on really people?! The part that bothered me the most is they had a shot special posted and when I asked for it the bartender didn't even know how to make it. My friend and I wanted two different shots and this annoyed the bartender.. he asked why we couldn't just order the same shot. Ummm... because we don't want the same shot! We are paying you to do this... why are you making it seem so difficult to mix a drink? read more

Yes, it's a bit divey. Yes, it's a bit dirty and unrefined. But, sometimes that's exactly what you are looking for. The staff is great and very friendly. We had only been there a couple of times before both Dennis and Lois knew us by name as we walked through the door. Beware... thier mixed drinks are not for the weak. These guys got rid of the standard 1.5oz. or 4 count pour a long time ago. Mixed drinks will come in a pint glass and, if you are lucky, have enough mixer to color the alcohol. There...warning is over. Other then that... a pool table, some silver strike bowling and darts for only a quarter. I can safely say that this is just flat out a "comfortable, neighborhood, blue collar dive bar", and no body should take that in a negative way at all. read more

Great dive bar for the Highwood area. We popped in during the Pumpkin Festival and thankfully it wasn't as packed as places like Toad's! Only reason I would subtract a star is because initially when we walked in I had ordered 2 Oktoberfest draught beers - we had cash in our hands and the bartender told us $11. Last minute I decided to open a tab. Shortly later I ordered one more from a different bartender and closed out my tab, final bill being $15. Hm. Well. I certainly can add and divide so it's funny that my first 2 beers were $5.50 each and my last was $4.. Working in the industry I can understand this going one of two ways. One being just a common human error (completely understandable and WHY I would only subtract one star instead of more, obviously if this keeps happening I'll have to edit my review) and the other being that bartender #1 was trying to scam us seeing there was cash in our hands - which I am NOT a fan of! You will get a better tip any day of the week being honest. Besides that little incident, I liked the place and the service, friendly staff. I also liked that we could play pool outdoors where the kids could smoke. It's definitely a younger college-type demographic, but probably why I like it. A little less stuffy than a place like The Toadstool Pub. Definitely will be returning. read more

A great local dive with a good rotation of local musical talent. Their drinks are a little on the strong side, but if you stick with beer you should be safe. The only real negative here are the prices. For domestics they're around $3.50/4, but taps are $5... I don't know when that's happened, but it seems like everywhere now has their draft prices set at $5. The people in the bar are your normal bar folk. Worst bar experience of my life. The owner aggressively shoved his way into a group of friends I was with instead of walking around us. He had PLENTY of space to walk around us. He was yelling at us and shoving his body into us. I politely told him that he could just walk around us instead of shoving his way into us for no good reason. As soon as I said that, he told me he was the owner and instantly starts screaming at me to leave. Without any time to respond to him to get any context, he grabs me with full force and pushes me out of the bar and slams the door in my face while repeatedly cussing at me. I've never experienced anything like this before, and it's just disappointing to see an adult act so childish. read more

My rating of 1 star is fully directed towards 1 of the bartenders. Overall the bar is great. However, 1 bartender, I don't kno his name, is consistently rude for no apparent reason. Personally, I can count 5 separate occasions when he was rude to me. My friends also have had multiple unpleasantries with this particular bartender. He gives you crap whenever you ask for water, he makes you feel like an asshole for making him work by ordering a drink, he pours drinks incorrectly (and refuses to remake them), he lies about the kitchen being closed (because he is lazy I guess or just a jerk), and he has a general negative demeanor that is unsettling, unfit for a service worker. Oh, and he frequently claims to be "Ted" the owner of the bar when you try to make a complaint. The reason I felt compelled to write this today is because last night he made my lady friend very uncomfortable when he angrily blamed her for "getting him in trouble" by ordering food. I'm not going into any more details as this review is long enough as is. I just hope the management reads this and then takes action to influence this bartender to learn what good service is. (He is tall, short thinning dark hair with a big bald spot on top, he dresses strikingly similar to a homeless man (baggy, dirty clothes) and smells like a dumpster. I will never walk inside this place again. Teddy's is the most fun bar in highwood (not saying much) and I recommend it to anyone that is a crackhead. read more

Awesome selection of craft beers. Even a couple on tap. We went on sunday (3/11) to grab a drink for a friends turning 21 at midnight. Whoever the bartender, mid 50's gentleman, was plenty accommodating and polite and turned me on to a new brewing company that just came around the area. defintely nothing bad to say about him. The set up and interior are pretty much a college kid diver, which doesn't surprise me since that's the main demographic to cater to in highwood, at least in the summer time. I'm definitely willing to return on a busier night (there were only 5 others beside us) so I can see if I would give it more stars. Until then i can only comment on what i know, rather than what i have heard. read more

I like this salt of the earth pub. I'm hesitant to call it a dive bar because a dive bar to me is grimy, some broken furniture, a wet or sticky floor, and some sketchy AF patrons. Like to me a dive bar would be Little Nicks in Lake Bluff or some dicey spots in Lakeview. I don't go to bars often. Mainly I went in the hot summer to do crosswords and scratch offs while beating the heat. I notice they have a diverse crowd of all ages or regulars and newbies that were mostly if not all clean cut Highland Park or Lake Forest natives and some were friendly or gregarious to me without being obnoxious about it. The drink prices are fair. The Capcodders I've ordered were okay and the draft beer I've ordered didn't have a big head. Of course they have cold bottles too. They serve fried food that people seemed to like or grilled cheese and that jive. It's made or fried by the bartenders right behind the bar which gives it a homespun diner or quaint feel. They have a pool table that some dickhead patron or their kid scratched up the felt of and an arcade game or I think Golden Tea. There's usually street parking in walking distance and they have a patio and live music often, jam bands or rock. Sometimes it's gets pretty busy. Cool looking college atmosphere bar with lots of Chicago related pictures. They have a grill you can watch bartender cook and basically it is a Itmrish bar with a young crowd. Goof place to catch beer,sports and grub. A dark environment with carving in bathroom stalls and is not a family friendly business, which is hood as there are too many of those and more places for singles are needed. read more

It's just a great time here on Thursday nights!! My buddies and I always arrive around 8pm and it's dead. We always end up thinking we may have to try and find a livelier bar in the Highwood area, but there aren't any others as far as I'm concerned. The surge always seems to come in around 9. Some great late 20's to mid 30's crew, very chill until the Karaoke gets going. Jenae is usually always the Thursday night bartender and my friends and I adore her dearly. These guys are super chill. They have a group of regulars who are always there and super friendly, and the drinks are all very reasonably priced. GREAT beer selection, love me some Jai Alai IPA (local to Tampa FL, I'm from Orlando so it's like a local beer for me). The bartenders are all engaging and like to make you feel welcome. 5 stars for the price point and the friendly atmosphere, and not overcrowded which is a plus for me. Plus darts. Had such a bad experience, to begin got a Mai Tai because it was a special on Thursdays and was horrible, got the the Mac and cheese bites (don't worry fried food lovers, they were good), and then asked for a water where Eric gave me a dirty look. He was sassy the entire time we'd ask for things and then when it was time to ask for a check they overcharged me for the drink. I asked for a refund and Eric asked if he could buy me a drink instead, as I was leaving I said no, and I asked if I could get a refund and he said no because the system takes too long. So I didn't get a refund or any recompense for his mistake. 10/10 don't go to this bar, there are better options in Highwood and certainly don't get your drinks from Eric. read more
