My party wanted to go further afield than usual and try out a few places in Highwood. Scotty's has amazing food! I did not try any of the cocktails or other adult beverages, but it was reported by another member of our group that the Old Fashioned was a delight. There's both a nice outdoor seating area in warmer months and really pretty dining room and bar. Our server, Jay, was great at answering questions about the menu. Everyone loved their selections. I had a special: Lake Superior whitefish in a light tomato-garlic cream sauce with spinach. It was absolutely delicious and wish it was a regular menu item! The pork chops were very nice, as was the salmon and chicken risotto special that the other folks got. We look forward to returning! read more

I really like this place. Seated immediately for a 5pm Sunday reservation, we were greeted by a wonderful server who never disappointed. Orders taken promptly, drinks refilled and questions answered. The food was delicious, from fish to steak to burger(a tad slow receiving our food but that really wasn't a problem and it happens in most restaurants we've visited recently). Scotty's is relatively small and filled up quickly with what seemed like regulars, and the noise level increased as well...but that's to be expected in a friendly neighborhood joint. We've been disappointed by a couple of other restaurants in Highwood but recommend this one without question. read more

Our group of 6 dined on Friday night. The dining room was busy, but we had great service and our dinners were excellent.

We arrived a little after 5:00 PM. They just opened. We had no reservation and chose to sit at the bar. The early crowd appeared to be the Seniors who were all to familiar with Scotty. Warm wishes of HNY and conversations were everywhere. The bar service was excellent. We enjoyed a wedge salad which was divided and chopped (delicious). Next we shared a pizza. Cooked perfectly, topped with spinach. The pizza is thin and crispy. Desert was a warm brownie a-la mode with walnuts and cinnamon. You wouldn't think much, seeing this place from the road. Scotty's sits in the middle of a strip mall. The interior however, is cozy, quiet, with just enough light. The Wine and Spirits terrific. Bonus: The wine is a generous pour. We've come here several times over the years, always sitting in the stylish and comfortable bar. The service and food are consistently excellent. On this visit we started with cocktails, which are always perfectly made. The bread and giardiniera go well with anything! We also ordered a bottle of Cabernet for dinner. The very cool, yet unassuming host, Scotty makes sure that everyone is well attended to. He has the respect of his staff as well as the patrons, who primarily consist of happy regulars. All staff members are professional and helpful. My husband started with a very good Clam Chowder. I chose the salad special of greens, dried cherries, walnuts, crumbled blue cheese and vinaigrette dressing. I would be happy having that salad every day! I was glad to have a choice of two sizes of the Filet entrée and picked the 4 oz size. I still had leftovers! The filet, mashed potatoes and green beans almandine were all excellent! The ribs here are always a favorite and one of us usually has to order them, sometimes for takeout - from the Vernon Hills location which is closer to home. We wish we lived closer! read more

From outside, Scotty's looks like a blah strip mall storefront, but inside it's downright classy. Straightforward dishes on the Italian-leaning menu are equally divided between healthy and less-healthy-but-too-delicious-to-ignore. Two in our party were wowed by the Cuban sandwich; its generous slab of juicy pork shoulder was bursting with flavor. Others dug the "Digman" cheeseburger, The Gobbler (a nicely seasoned and juicy turkey burger), chicken & broccoli pasta, and roasted pork chops. You can turn any of their six salads into an entrée salad by adding chicken, shrimp, salmon, and/or filet mignon. I tasted two sides - sweet potato fries and Brussel sprouts with bacon & onion - and would definitely order these in the future. Dessert is a must. The key lime pie is the more-tart-than-sweet version that's popular at Florida seafood joints. The banana bread pudding also received high marks. Decided to hit the North Shore for a Girl's Night Dinner. We chose Scotty's On Sheridan on a whim. We had never been before and thought why not. I am delighted with our choice! We pulled up to a small strip mall filled with home renovation businesses. Next to the flooring store was Scotty's. I must say I was expecting a casual pub type spot. Boy was I wrong. I found a cozy, elegant yet casual dining room. Muted natural colors and chandeliers created a very cute place. Service was immediately welcoming and impressive. Arturo was so warm and friendly. He offered gracious service from start to finish. He chatted with us about the restaurant and it's other location and even joked around a bit. Arturo really made our great experience even better. The menu had me a bit perplexed. The range of options were endless and cover many types of cuisine. I was a little concerned that with so many options the quality might suffer. I was sooo wrong. The Chef is really to notch! The warm bread was crunchy on the outside and light and chewy inside. Everything was homemade included the the balsamic vinaigrette. My friend loved her seafood pasta and my whitefish and shrimp in a white wine sauce and capers was so memorable. Absolutely delicious. Our desserts were a fine way to finish a perfect meal. I'm looking forward to returning for their Happy Hour very soon. If I lived closer, I'd be a regular! read more

If I could give 10 STARS, I would! I recently took family and a friend to Scotty's for dinner and, I must say, it was an absolutely outstanding! I am tired of paying for no service and horrible food at restaurants in the area. I had given up and given in to the treatment, BUT, from the moment we walked in to Scotty's we were swooped to our table and our server was incredibly attentive and the bussing service was very professional and the dinner ran with precision and smoothness. We decided to try a variety of dishes and were blown away by the quality and freshness of each one. The blackened salmon salad was cooked to perfection, with its charred exterior and the fish was tender & flaky. The garlic shrimp linguine was bursting with flavor, and the sausage pasta had a delightful combination of savory and spicy notes. For dessert, we enjoyed the key lime pie, gelato with espresso, and coffee. The key lime pie was tangy with incredibly triple cream topping and the gelato paired perfectly with the rich espresso, and the coffee. It was the perfect ending to an already fantastic dinner! Not only was the food exceptional, but the ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall enjoyment . The atmosphere was upbeat, updated, warm and inviting, creating a comfortable and enjoyable dining environment. The outstanding service we received throughout only added to our appreciation of this restaurant. I cannot express enough how much we all loved not only the food but also the overall experience at Scotty's. We were so impressed that we are already planning our next visit. My family and I came here to celebrate my mom's birthday. Very classy and chic instead with a nice bar area. It was interesting to see the restaurant in a shopping plaza. I can picture it being in Chicago. The waiter was very nice and attentive. For appetizer, we split the steamed mussels in white wine sauce and the calamari in sweet chili sauce. Both dishes were light and not overpowering. I love seafood, so this was a good choice. Plus there was fresh warm bread on the table to dip in the sauces. Drink: beach vacation with habinero salt/spice along the rim of the glass. It's made with tequila, dark rum, pineapple juice, grapefruit juice and soda water. It tasted like a drink I would get on a beach. Very good! Entree: white pizza with goat cheese, olive oil, spinach, oregano, and garlic. The pizza was a descent size. Reminded me of the thin pizzas in Italy. The goat cheese was very light tasting. But, it needed either fresh tomoates, fig, or bacon sprinkled on top. Dessert: I had the banana fudge gelato, which was a light banana flavor and chocolate swirls in the ice cream. My sister had the flourless chocolate cake and berry sorbet. The cake was warm and rich, while the sorbet was tart. Both complimented each other nicely. My dad had chocolate chip bread pudding with banana fudge gelato. The waiter was so nice. He brought my mom a slice of key line pie with strawberry/raspberry drizzle, fresh whipped cream, and a birthday candle. Her pie was delicious too! read more

It's #ThankYouThursday! So I wanted to thank one of my favorite local businesses for being "there" for all of us locals during this stay-at-home time. When our family had to list the first thing we would do after the SIP, my answer was: Get a great cocktail at the bar at Scotty's! While I am missing Carlos and Edwin so much right now, I am thankful for Scotty and Francisco (and the rest of the friendly crew) keeping the place going so we can order in. Overall a pretty good experience. The chopped Greek salad with salmon was truly delicious! The Washington Cabernet was very nice and a very good recommendation. 4 stars because I had higher expectations for the fried calamari, which in my opinion had a lot of breading and was greasy. Went to Scotty's for first time on our date night out based on reviews and recommendations. It did not disappoint. Food, drinks, service and ambiance were all terrific. Great variety on the entrees. My wife had one of the house chicken dishes and I went with a Mahi Mahi with blackened shrimp special. Delicious!! Appetizers and desserts also superb. My wife and I came here for a nice dinner on a Thursday evening. The place was pretty busy, but not busy enough to need a reservation. There were probably 4-5 open tables throughout the time we were there. We decided to split a Cuban sandwich and an order of gnocchi. The Cuban was good, though a little too moist. I'm used to having crispy buttery bread fresh from a panini for a Cuban, this one however is more like a good toasted hot ham with cheese. The only regrettable part of the sandwich was the pulled pork. It was just way too moist, like dripping wet. It just made the bread soggy. The flavor was great, but the sandwich was a mess. The gnocchi was really good. Super soft and tasty. They just melt in your mouth. The sauce was meaty and flavorful. I'm used to having a vodka sauce with my gnocchi, so having a Bolognese was a little bit of a surprise, but it was really quite good. The service here is great. A lot of friendly and attentive people always trying to help. The prices were also really good. Each entree was only $10-15 each. TL;DR: Good food, good prices, great people. read more

My friend and I had a girls night here last night. The place is simple and unassuming from the outside, casual yet elegant in the inside. Very comfortable very relaxed but still had an elegant touch to it. The service was friendly and attentive as well. The dinner rolls come warm and are like wonderful soft fluffy pillows. For starters I had the Berry Salad that came with arugula goat cheese strawberries and blueberries in a sweet vinaigrette. It was fresh summery light and tasty. For my main course I had the garlic shrimp and scallops with tomatoes over linguine. It was delicious. The seafood was fresh the linguine was perfectly cooked everything was light yet full of flavor. For dessert. For dessert I had the chocolate brownie with ice cream. It was chocolaty and delicious but not overly rich. The menu is ver diverse and has something for all tastes. Salads, pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, pastas, fish, pork, steak, ribs, chicken, you name it. Also I should note they know how to make a proper side car. Because it's a more old school classic drink a lot of places don't so bonus points for me. I also brought home ribs and key lime pie for my husband which he loved. I love and appreciate a good soup The 1st time I tried out a soup I had never heard of...green bean and bacon I was very happy with the taste, flavor and texture. Tonight I got the calamari. I am quite the Connoisseur. I liked it better than places in Highland Park. So tender and great sauce accompanied it. The mushroom soup was primo I was surprised with a nice hint of truffles! It's a bit far for me to go but the food and service were alright. It started off good with delicious fried calamari and carpaccio. The calamari was seasoned wel and crispy and perfectly cooked. The carpaccio was delicious as well loved the marinated tomatoes on top. I also tried the Greek salad which came with the prix fix menu I decided on. The salad was okay, dressing could have used more flavor, not the best I've had. I got the half slab of ribs for the entree and it was okay. The ribs were too tender for my liking, not a huge fan of fall of the bone. The fries were fine, just kind of tasted like McDonald's to be honest. I ended with the coconut cake and that was very good. Light with good flavor, not too sweet. This place isn't outstanding to me, everything tastes good but I've had better overall. read more

We thought we'd give this relatively new restaurant a try. The location has seen various restaurants give it a go, but not make it--this one should succeed. A look at the menu reflects a broad approach, seeking to please nearly everyone. We had 4 in our group and sure enough we ordered the 4 corners of the menu: Pork; Trout; Ribs; Shrimp with linguini. The pork and ribs got the biggest raves. The linguini and the trout (with risotto) both could have used more spicing--good, but not great sort of dishes. The wait-staff is very friendly and very attentive. I ordered a mixed drink that didn't move or shake me, not to my taste--no fault of the bartender--they very graciously provided a new cocktail greatly to my liking. That last bit, that's why they will succeed (hopefully): cordiality and a broad based menu of good food. read more

We decided to give Scotty's a try for Valentine's dinner. We had tried to come here once before without a reservation and was thwarted. Due to other commitments we needed a late reservation for Valentine's so we had no problem. Our table was ready for us upon arrival and service was spot on. On our way into the restaurant, an exiting customer recommended the mussels while holding the door for us. My husband, being a big mussels fan, ordered them for his appetizer. He was thrilled with them! I had the shrimp cocktail which was fine but not noteworthy. For my main course I ordered the salmon which they said was served medium rare. It wasn't. It was overcooked and a bit on the tough and dry side. I wouldn't order this again. Hubby had the meatball sandwich with chips. He raved about the homemade chips but kept exclaiming about the number of carbs he was ingesting. Overall, I think he was pleased with his meal. Much more so than I. I think that I chose poorly. For dessert I had the flourless chocolate cake. This was by far the highlight for me. This was really excellent and a very nice choclately treat for Valentine's. read more

Phenomenal!!! my girlfriend and I had the ribs, French onion soup, salad & Braised meatballs o yea a side of Brussels sprouts with bacon which were all fantastic. We were served phenomenally as we had just gotten in town from a long flight and Scotty's service alone made our night that much better. That coupled with fantastic food, comfortable seats and the Yankees playing right in the background made this the perfect spot for my girlfriend and I to go on a date after a long day of traveling.
