We went here to watch the Bears playoff game. My first impression is that's much more spacious than it looks from the outside. It's also really clean. I guess I was expecting an older "house" since that's what it looks like. The bar area is a nice size - not too big or small. Alot of TVs in all directions. This place has more TVs per square yard than dedicated sports bars. Even a 2 person high top table in a little nook had their own TV! The waitstaff consists of 1 bartender and 1 waitress. Service was ver friendly and attentive when they were able to come to your table. As you can expect, when it filled up, they were hard to find. Drinks came at us quickly when ordered. Food is somewhat varied. It all fit on front and back of a long menu. Artichoke dip was great. Plenty of pita like bread. Main courses came to us quickly. I had a mushroom swiss burger and tator tots. Both tasted great! Pizza was completely finished. The shrimp appetizer was big enough for a small meal. Our group of about 12 came here after a hike a few weeks ago. We sat on the heated pario which was comfortable, bright, and had sports TV screens. It was cold out but I noticed that they have a large outdoor patio. Ambiance: 5 star Service: 5 star, our big group did not have to wait long at all! Very friendly, professional staff. My mom and I were looking for a place to stop for a drink after a show at the Marriot Theater. This place was perfect. It was pretty packed for a Thursday night, but the bartender was friendly and efficient. The immediate bar area was quite noisy, but there are other tables available that were better suited for conversation. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip, as well as the pretzels. The pretzel came with 3 medium sized pretzels, but the dipping sauce seemed like a mustard- based cheese sauce. I would have preferred a plain cheese dip. I really enjoyed the spinach dip. The bill seemed reasonable for a couple drinks each and 2 appetizers. There's not a ton of parking available, but I was able to park at the Metra station across the street. I've come here a hundred times over the last ten years. Thursday night was the worse experience ever. Friend brought it outside food because the kitchen was closed like we have been doing a hundred times before. The server Millie I think that's her name told us we had to eat outside. Insulted we grabbed our food and drinks and headed out to the front step. Moments later she came out to the front steps and told us we can't have our drinks outside with 5 other people drinking outside. I will not be visiting this establishment anymore because I think she is most likely discriminating us due to our race. More negative reviews to come from others. read more

I've been here a few times since places opened up again. The food has been pretty good. Now it has been under new management since March 2022, and I've heard plenty of rumors of how the food is not as good, no one goes here anymore, etc. However, as I said, I have been here several times. The wings are good, the buffalo chicken wrap is good, the BBQ platters are good. Last night, I had the burger. I ordered it medium and one of my dining companions also got a burger but ordered it medium well. Mine was also medium well and was not pink at all in the middle. In my opinion, if the burger is cooked above medium, they lose some flavor and this happened last night. I always order the tots, and these were cold and limp - not crunchy at all. However, they have been better on other dining excursions, so I won't hold it against them. They did fence in their outdoor patio and the tables and seating are nice. It really is a great place to enjoy the warm weather and have a few drinks, just skip the burger. read more

Stopped here off the train after work and picked up some pizzas for the family. Inside is small. Decent tv viewing for games if you can score a table. Outdoor convertible roof is cool and honestly the only place I'd want to dine in. Sadly, I didn't come in for a drink because they have good beer and wine options. The pizza was inferior to most options within a 70 mile radius. Crust, flavorless but crispy! Add salt? Cheese was fine. Red pizza sauce was closer to marinara. I have a feeling they don't dish out too many pizzas, at least to sober people. So that's on me. Figured I would try something new rather than the same ol go to. Oh well. I was there on Tuesday night for karaoke. The bartender was terrible with an attitude. I waited 10 minutes until I got served. She was in the patio area outside smoking. When I asked her about that she said that she was the only server in the whole place (a problem in itself). She said that she had to serve the people out there. That was a lie as there was no one out there. Then to top it out she commented that she didn't like to be told how to do her job. She should be let go and I would recommend to that establishment to get an additional server. read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon with my husband. We sat at the bar and noticed that there was only one person taking on the entire restaurant. Her name was Beth and she was excellent! She was running around attending to her tables and to those of us sitting at the bar like it was nothing. She has a very positive attitude and deserves to be recognized. I could tell you all kinds of stories about the history of this place. As a child, I lived down the street on Easton and was friends with the daughter of the original owner. The regulars and neighborhood folks called it "Jerry's" or just "the tavern". I've stopped in a couple times in recent years for a dose of nostalgia. I doubt they'd let me jump on a trampoline in the back yard or play in the basement these days, but the newer owners have done good things with the place. They have some really nice outdoor seating in back, live music from time to time, etc. The burgers are great and I had a prime rib special here once that was good too. I have not had Prairie House in several years and made the mistake of trying it again. The pizza was undercooked, the sauce is extremely basic. Even heating it up in the oven more and adding seasonings to try and make it better did not work. On the upside my son did like his cheeseburger. However, they did not provide sweet potato fries as I ordered and their plain fried were too salty to eat. Basically both the fries and pizza tasted like they were frozen first, ick. I visited a few weeks ago, and had a good experience. Today, however, is a different story. There was a group (rather loud) enjoying the happy hour. I sat at the bar, which was relatively empty. The bar tender (Beth?) never once acknowledged me. Instead, she was so enthralled in the happy hour guests, perhaps regulars, that she didn't notice me. I had to literally flag her down and ask if I could place an order. Her attention was clearly with the larger group and she provided them good service. Honestly, the service for me, was lackluster at best. I shouldn't have to flag you down when you're right in front of me washing glasses and eavesdropping on another party. I was going to order food, but decided not to. When I asked for the check (again flagging her down) she never looked up, just nodded. He obviously saw how bad it was when he was taking it out of the oven but he gave it to me anyways. Called to complain and owner gave me an attitude like he couldn't believe I actually was having an issue with it. Gave them a second chance. This time I ordered a pizza online at 11:30AM to to be picked up at 12:30 and eat it there. I get there at 12:30PM, she brings the pizza out and it's stone cold, again I complain, she says I should have gotten there earlier, I said no, I requested a pick up time to eat there at 12:30, she said not true, I said go look at the order, she came back and apologized, I asked for and got a full refund. We went here because of Yelp. Nice joint that was converted from a house to a restaurant with a separate bar and a small cheesy dining area. There are tables set up in the enclosed front porch that looked better for dining, away from the kitchen. We sat at the bar and ordered a thin pizza and wings. The pizza was good not great like the wings. The beer was cold and the people were very nice. They are going to try a Wisconsin fish boil soon. Everything on the menu from prime rib to typical bar food. Specials too! Going back tonight. Update will follow. Update: I'm going to knock this down to three stars because the food is A-OK. Last nights order was wings again, very good, crispy and well sauced with blue cheese, celery and carrot slices. Turkey burger on the small side and average, excellent fries. Burger cooked as ordered, but again average. I asked the server about the Chicken vesuvio and she said it was fantastic so I ordered it. The server who brought it out said I was going to love it. It was a half chicken with a quartered potato, it was good but I didn't love it. It was a little plain, not enough garlic for me. The service was very good again, and the beer was very cold again. We sat in the bar again and the music was very LOUD, we did ask once to have it turned down and I think they might have but by the time we left it was pretty loud, again. The Fish boil and Prime rib is on Saturday only. All you can eat Fish fry on the menu. I might go back for that since I haven't seen a fish fry I don't like. read more

I'm a bit mixed on this restaurant as there are some aspects which are great and some which are not as impressive. The restaurant itself is nice and cozy with very friendly service and reasonable prices for the food you get. There's a decent variety of items on the menu which cover everything from snacks to sandwiches to salads to fried fish to Mexican. The portion sizes aren't huge but you're also getting nicely presented food that's clearly fresh, made with higher quality ingredients, and most likely prepared from scratch. This is typically the recipe for a 5-star review, however -- the food I had was fairly bland. Really everything from underseasoned to scarce on the salt to being devoid of herbs. Perhaps the two most flavorful items I had were the nachos with steak and dessert nuggets... but even these did not have flavor that popped out at me. If it wasn't for the ground beef and guacamole in the nachos, it would've been nearly tasteless. The dessert nuggets were a bit better with a decent helping of cinnamon, sugar (and a healthy dose of butter and freshly prepared dough). Other dishes were similar in experience -- The ribeye sandwich had a nice texture to the meat (although the cut is a tad thin, but fortunately had enough fat for flavor) but wasn't seasoned much where the bread almost had more flavor. The chips were crispy and had a light feel to them -- but didn't get much in terms of salt or vinegar. The beer battered cod had a nice crispy batter to it with generously sized fillets of fish -- but the batter itself was so plain that it was almost necessary to dip the fish in the sauce. The tater tots were okay, crispy.. but nothing that stood out to make it a must-order dish. The Cheddar X Burger had a tasty bun and some taste to the cheese -- with a burger that was slightly juicy but didn't seem to have any seasoning, sear, or char to add flavor. The seasoned fries were lightly seasoned and crisp but once again, the seasoning was very light in flavor. Overall, food is fresh and presented nicely -- and the service is friendly. But bland flavors (if no additional salt or seasoning, maybe use fresh herbs instead?) unfortunately bump this down a star. read more
