Ted's Coney Island is one of my favorite places to go for Hot Dog and onion Rings. For years I have ordered the same exact thing: Hot Dog with mustard, chili, and slaw with a side of onion rings. It is delicious. Today I had a very different experience as I was greeted by a stone-faced individual who was not very helpful. I asked for the same exact order as I always do, only this time the man behind the counter told me what I was describing was a basket, and he asked, "Do you want the basket with Hot dog and chili, with onion rings and french-fries? I said OK...but can i get some slaw to put on the hotdog" He said, I can give you a small slaw on the side. I agreed. But when my order came to my table, NO FRIES OR ONION RINGS. I said I was missing them and he told me I didn't order them. So I went ahead a placed an order for onion rings and fries. I waited, and I waited, and I finished my hot dog without the fries and onion rings...Then I thought I'll give them a few minutes more. I eventually left. I still love Ted's Coney Island, but the service has slipped. The customer is evidentially not the first priority. You might want to think twice about eating at Ted's unless you are willing to spell out your order and take a chance on something not being right. read more

Found this place off of Yelp and did some quick little research on TikTok with the help of a friend and decided to try their pork tenderloin sandwich. This place offers it on a Diablo sauce which is delish and not very spicy at all. We also decided to try the feta fries which were to die for - they are tossed in vinegar and topped with the cheese and oregano different yes, masterpiece definitely. Onion rings were great too they were made from red onion which is different and appreciated. Ranch was on point. Service was good, fast, and accurate. The establishment was clean. Ted's was the last meal for me on a LONG road trip around the plains states. Have to admit, I wasn't the hungriest but still wanted to be sure to visit because I had heard great things. I kept it pretty basic: onion rings and a hot dog with ketchup and mustard. Nothing exciting, but the essentials done really well are sometimes all I need. The lightly-battered, thin onion rounds were well-seasoned and crispy without being too oily. The hot dog was topped generously and sat in a nice soft bun. The folks at Ted's were extremely kind not just to me but in other customer interactions I watched and heard. A great spot to try especially if you're looking for fast food that isn't just fast food. Their gyro and falafel sandwiches are pretty decent. I also like how crispy their onion rings and fries are, but that's purely based on my preference. If you get a basket it's like $10 without a drink. It comes w your sandwich, fries, onion rings, and coleslaw. I didn't personally like their coleslaw that much, I just didn't think it had too much flavor. However getting all this through a drive thru is pretty awesome. Their drive thru is open, their menu is right where the speaker is. If you like planning what to order before arriving I suggest looking their menu up online before driving up. Their baklava is a decently sized piece and really sticky. The exterior may appear to be a refurbished other restaurant from yester year, same with the interior, but it was obvious that this place is a local favorite. The inside is spotless. I want to like Ted's but the servers are just either incompetent or belligerent, I'm really not sure which. Every time I go through the drive through I ask them not to use styrofoam, they dump fried items in it hot and melt the plastic. I don't like the waste or eating melted plastic. FIVE times in a row they have ignored my request. Five in a row is pretty incredible and doesn't feel like an accident anymore. Wtf? It's a simple request. Came here for dinner tonight to try the place out. I didn't realize that is was more of a fast food restaurant and not a sit down but I didn't mind it. We ordered and our food was brought to us within five minutes which was nice. Everyone there was also very nice and welcoming as well. The place is decently clean. I like that they give you both onion rings and fries but I wish I could have substituted the coleslaw for a pop or something. Usually with a meal you get a pop but for some reason you have to pay an extra $3 for a pop. The burger tasted good but the meat kinda just tasted like one of those frozen patties. It was also very salty. As for the onion rings and fries I really enjoyed those! Very tasty! My boyfriend got the Chicago dog and he said he was pretty underwhelmed by it. Even though the name is a cross between the most famous Hot Dog Shop of Buffalo and the little area of New York City which apparently invented this type of hot dog that is now especially popular in Detroit and other places, this lovely little spot really holds its own with Chicago style food. Service is nice, from some of the employees anyway, and the prices are great - but the products are the real standout strong point here. Five star Chicago style hot dogs, done really well, fresh, tasty, snappy, and they have no issues in terms of authenticity or taste or freshness like so many Chicago dog places do. And then there's the Gyro. Take hearty delicious Chicago-style gyro meat that is probably the best I've had in the Des Moines area, combine with fresh Pita, crisp veggies, and decent white sauce, and you've got one of the best in all of Iowa. So this was a real surprise and I'm a big fan. Definitely five stars by any stretch of the imagination, by any standard really. A Des Moines classic, one of my favorite places when the mood for gyros or a Coney dog strikes. I love how fresh the gyro meat is, and the fries are always crisp and fresh made. A lot of people like the tenderloins, and there are also some veggie options as well. All in all the food is great here. There are a bunch of booths here as well as some four top tables in the middle dining area. You could probably come here with a small group, but more than 10 would be a challenge. Ted's is perfect for a date or just hanging with your friends. I have always found this place to be clean and well cared for. It's a great family run place that is one of my favs. read more

This place has been here forever and I think it's for those who is bored of the regular fast food burger joints they have more options. The play itself is interesting and looks like an 80s dentist office. It's definitely dated but I guess they're wanting to focus more on the food. Nothing so special, they have chili dogs, gyros, fries, burgers, etc. I'd say stick with the Coney if you're there for the first time but also give other things a try since they're all pretty good. It's not the best of anything by all means but it's very standard and really for the price I think we're good for that. The last time I had the tenderloin and you know how it is in Iowa, huge patty with small bun. Who doesn't like that? The gal at the counter literally filled the entire cup for the pop with ice, giving me maybe 5 oz pop in a 20 oz cup. The 'dog' was about 1/2" in diameter and 2" short of bun length. The food was great as usual but the owner was not friendly, he made you feel like you were an inconvenience and my son accidentally knocked his coleslaw over onto the floor and while we were cleaning it up, the owner walked by and rolled his eyes at us!
