"YARN," I shouted and immediately spun to my right and into the driveway of what looked to be someone's house. Now, you probably think I'm some sort of hardcore knitting addict but that isn't the case. I just got back into knitting and am in the middle of knitting a pair of hand warmers for my brother's girlfriend. I bought yarn that was slightly thinner than the yarn I used to make my first pair of hand warmers, so it looked really "loose" on the needles. I wanted a slightly smaller set of needles but ran out of time before our trip. I sort of/definitely planned to stop at whatever yarn place there was to scratch that itch of feeling unprepared. So that's how we ended up at Playing with Yarn. I immediately found a set of size 2 bamboo needles for the insanely low price of $4.70. Granted these were not Clover's Takuma needles but they were bamboo and under five dollars. I took a look at the yarn - there is a pretty wide selection- before paying. I knit mostly in my school years, so any skein of yarn over $9 is pricey to me even if it's super nice merino wool, hand dyed, blah blah blah. It's a very small shop to be sure, but the owners are nice and the selection is good and decently priced. Also, if you go up to the second floor, there is a great view of Lake Superior!

I went here specifically looking for a gift for our daughter and found a whole slew of things she would love. As has been mentioned, things range from less than a quarter, to the more expensive... But overall, there is a huge selection, and even the tightest budget can walk out with a bag full of things! I purchased a roll of safari animal stickers that are on a roll inside a cardboard house. (I know, right?!) Plus, a heart shaped hole punch. There were puzzles, stationary items, stuffed animals, toy cars, gag gifts, and so so so many other things! I could have spent all day there. My reason for 4 stars is because I asked the clerk a question about the stickers that were taped up under a shelf (if they were for sale and how to purchase them) and she was pretty snotty about her answer.
