Do you have a moment to talk about our Drummond Island Savior, the Teepee? The Teepee is a summer staple and tradition of Drummond. Centrally located on the Island, their soft serve ice cream is unparalleled and perfect for relaxing on a summer day. A few years ago they added a food menu, so it's easy to stop by the Teepee while on the way into/from town to grab lunch and a desert, all for a fair price. (Actually, the food is fair-priced. The ice cream is surprisingly cheap.) The workers are always friendly and hospitable, representing the best of Drummond, and the service is always prompt. The few times an order's been delivered incorrectly (always due to stopping by at a rush period) they've been happy and quick to correct our order. Drummond Island may not be quite the culinary smorgasbord; but the Teepee is a simple treasure on the Gem of the Huron.

Got the ice cream, and it was pretty good. The donuts and coffee is what I would recommend.

Nice stop for ice cream. Cherry dipped cone was very good. Check out the specials for unique flavors like the rhubarb fury.

But it turns out that you…read moreshouldn't judge a restaurant by its name, because Chuckwagon served us what was probably the best meal we had on Mackinac Island. And it was the cheapest, too! Blessed from all directions. A patty melt was on the menu, so that's what I got. I can't not get a patty melt if I see one on a menu! This one was beefy and melty, with caramelized red onions between two slices of rye bread. All of the burgers and sandwiches come with plain potato chips and a pickle spear. We also got a regular cheeseburger and bleu cheese burger. All of the burgers are served on a pretzel bun, which is not my favorite type of bun, but I wasn't eating those burgers, and the eaters didn't seem to mind. Chuckwagon has a small kids' menu (the Lil' Buckaroo's Menu), with four items on it. Your kids can choose from a pb & j sandwich, a hot dog, a grilled cheese sandwich and mac & cheese. My little buckaroo chose the mac & cheese, which I believe was Kraft mac & cheese. Kids' menu items don't come with anything additional. This is a small restaurant with limited seating. You can sit at the counter and watch the action happen, or if you're lucky, you can find one of the few tables lining the wall or located in the back of the restaurant. Either way, depending on when you visit, you might encounter a crowd! But I think it's worth it to visit this old-school diner-type restaurant.

We had been traveling for a few days and I needed something a bit on the mild and plain side as my stomach tends to be on the sensitive side. It was on a brioche bun that was grilled and had a 310 branded on the bun. I did want my fries extra crispy and they were anything but...they were good but they definitely were not crispy. Hubby decided to order sides for his meal. I'm not a fan of pretzel sticks so I did not try them but he said they were good. He did not eat them all and the server gave us a huge side of cheese to go when we boxed them up. The hush puppies were very good! Despite my sensitive tummy, I probably ate a few more of those than I should have. The brisket chili was good...it was flavorful but not spicy. Brisket was cooked very well. Overall, a good experience but sadly they got dinged a little for the fries not being crispy despite me asking for them to be done extra crispy. I would definitely come back again though.
