Another wonderful meal after kayaking. Esther's was the only place we ate while on Drummond. That says it all.

Come hungry because the portions are huge!! Little disappointed that they dont have Margaritas but the food and service made up for it. Chalupas

Thanks to Yelp - stopped here with the family for dinner and was not let down. Quirky little place off the main drag with fresh, flavorful food. Expect a bit of a wait if it is crowded, but definitely worth it. Try the chalupas - fresh, fluffy and decadent corn masa "shells" with flavorful chorizo and refried beans. Request a side of cilantro for an extra burst of flavor. Mini nacho supreme was also a winner. Great array of authentic desserts as well. Our top spot on Drummond!

The food here was great, the prices just a bit too high. The service was good but nothing to rave about. Of course they were super busy with Jeep the Mac/spring migration weekend, but that should just make folks smile more - (nice tips). Back to the food - there was no place for the 4 of us to sit when we arrived so we opted for the very festive lunch counter. Our server gave us menus and one salsa and one chips (mind you had we come as separate couples we would have our own chips/salsa) everyone could not reach: and they were delicious. We asked for another basket and salsa yep $4.50!was added to the bill ?! Next we ordered pop and iced tea - iced tea free refills - pop $2 a can (yikes) should have ordered the tea! Next I got 3 enchiladas, red sauce, beans and rice if I remember it was $12.99 most items on the menu were $11-14 even tacos. I did also get a 2oz side of guacamole for $2.95 but my chips were gone....glad I don't ask for a refill of chips at this point I'm sure that would have been another $4.50. Hubby got the chimichanga which he said was also delicious. I think it was $13.99. It also came with rice and beans. Our Mexican lunch for 2 at the counter was about $42 with tip. The decor is amazing, clean and unique. It is very colorful and festive. It is small inside which adds to the ambiance. They also have outdoor seating when it warms up.

Never-in-a-million-years did I think I would be able to have fresh, AUTHENTIC, Mexican food on DRUMMOND ISLAND of all places. BUT I did just that when I went to Esther's. Please make sure to stop here and appreciate this place.

For $55 we got 2 horchatas, a small chips and salsa, shrimp taco meal, and the breakfast number 1. My daughter really enjoyed the homemade horchata, I like mine with a little more spice but it was very creamy, lightly sweet, and I would order again. Salsa was processed smoothly with very few pieces of veg if that's how you like it, the flavor was good, very mild. The chips were not homemade but also good for being the standard tortilla chip. The tacos are American style with flour tortillas, cheese, and sour cream which is not our preferred way to eat tacos so that's on us. If you like American style these were spot on. The rice was fantastic and the side of beans were pinto beans and not refried, also tasty but soupy. The scrambled eggs with carnitas were so oily that they were swimming in the bottom. Additionally the menu indicated they came with cheese and hash brown but mine was missing as can be seen in the photo (rectified immediately and kindly so absolutely not a complaint). The green salsa was minimal, would have preferred more as that was where the only real flavor came from. I wouldn't order again due to the oil. We may return and try again as the food was fresh, nicely cooked, the service was fantastic, and the place was spotless. We just like a little more authentic with perhaps different spice levels of salsa (little more spicy).

Crazy that this Mexican food eatery with a small yet delicious menu sits within a 42,000-square-foot building that formerly served as an equestrian center. Now it's an eatery inside several rooms - a part of the largest distillery in Michigan. The BIG room, on a colored, swirling and polished cement floor is decorated with couches, picnic tables, a large screen for videos and corn-hole boards and other games. My spouse and I ordered a quesadilla filled with chicken, avocado, peppers. onions and cheese ($16). YUM. Prepared on a 10-inch tortilla, it was served with limey-tasting sauce of sour cream in a tiny ramekin. We picked it up at the window in the long hallway on the side of the distillery and ate at a picnic table with our bottles of Mexican Coke and Lime Jarrito in the big hall. Although the price is a bit more than we usually spend for a top-notch quesadilla, we probably will return for fish (cod) taco $6.00. The only major drawback is the distance between the parking area and the restaurant and distillery. It's up a myriad of steep steps, although there is a drop-off area near the building for those who are physically impaired.

Came in on a Monday night as we just pulled up into town after traveling for work and I needed Spanish Rice and carbs. After being seated the server gave us the menu and specials and the specials caught my eye as they had Fried Shrimp Tacos with a side of Spanish Rice. I didn't want to be too full so I thought it was going to be a good size. I was wrong their portions here are generous! 3 Tacos with 2 large shrimps inside and I couldn't finish the last one. ( I did take the shrimp and rice to go for a snack later) We also got guac and chips and it was nicely mashed, would def get again. Honestly will probably go before I leave the area. Hospitality and vibes were definitely there, you could see regulars come in and chatting it up with other diners and with the server. Really enjoy this interaction and this close nit community.

It's a fairly loud restaurant but it goes with the mood. Family friendly with the ability to seat large parties. The team that works here are personable and happy to be at your service. Our server tonight was no different. We were seated promptly (we did make reservations because we weren't sure how busy it might be and there were 7 of us) and our server took our drink order right away. Their margaritas are excellent - get the raspberry one (frozen) with sugar on the rim - you won't be sorry! I had the ground beef Chimichanga. It's served with cheese sauce over it with refried beans, guacamole, lettuce, sour cream, and rice on the side. It's slightly spicy but not too hot. A very filling meal. We stay in a neighboring town and come to Alpena for dinner once a month and Mango's is one we enjoy returning to.
