Pretty much the only place that was open in early September. I loved the outdoor seating, gallery, gift shop, decorations outside & photos inside. Inside was small and cute. Food hit the spot before the drive back to main land. Very friendly staff & took good care of us. read more

It's a dining option that exists where few others do. Food was kind of meh. Cool atmosphere. Friendly service, but super slow. After an hour of waiting we just asked to get it to go so we wouldn't have to wait yet another hour for the next ferry. Bad food. Truly terrible service. The kind of place that charges for chips, charges to use a credit card and has a gift shop to take your money while you wait forever for them to make your food. The low quality of service would be redeemable if the food was good but it's not. The salsa has no flavor. It tastes like runny tomato sauce. read more

Thanks to Yelp - stopped here with the family for dinner and was not let down. Quirky little place off the main drag with fresh, flavorful food. Expect a bit of a wait if it is crowded, but definitely worth it. Try the chalupas - fresh, fluffy and decadent corn masa "shells" with flavorful chorizo and refried beans. Request a side of cilantro for an extra burst of flavor. Mini nacho supreme was also a winner. Great array of authentic desserts as well. Our top spot on Drummond! read more

The food here was great, the prices just a bit too high. The service was good but nothing to rave about. Of course they were super busy with Jeep the Mac/spring migration weekend, but that should just make folks smile more - (nice tips). Back to the food - there was no place for the 4 of us to sit when we arrived so we opted for the very festive lunch counter. Our server gave us menus and one salsa and one chips (mind you had we come as separate couples we would have our own chips/salsa) everyone could not reach: and they were delicious. We asked for another basket and salsa yep $4.50!was added to the bill ?! Next we ordered pop and iced tea - iced tea free refills - pop $2 a can (yikes) should have ordered the tea! Next I got 3 enchiladas, red sauce, beans and rice if I remember it was $12.99 most items on the menu were $11-14 even tacos. I did also get a 2oz side of guacamole for $2.95 but my chips were gone....glad I don't ask for a refill of chips at this point I'm sure that would have been another $4.50. Hubby got the chimichanga which he said was also delicious. I think it was $13.99. It also came with rice and beans. Our Mexican lunch for 2 at the counter was about $42 with tip. The decor is amazing, clean and unique. It is very colorful and festive. It is small inside which adds to the ambiance. They also have outdoor seating when it warms up. read more

You must travel thousands of miles to find food as authentic as Esther's. In addition to the flavorful food on offer one must remember to save room for dessert! Flans and the Fried Ice Cream Ball are my favorites. Highly recommended!!!! read more

The rice, while not very Mexican, was really tasty. Tacos are $2 on Tuesday's, which was good since there was no kids menu. The kids had a taco and a side of rice for $4-$5 so it worked out well. I had taquitos which were huge and made with chunks of chicken instead of shredded which was different. My husband had chilaquiles which he said were tasty but more like nachos. Probably the best place we ate in the island and we were here for 5 days. read more

I got the wet veggie burrito and it was sooo delicious!! The staff was so nice and attentive and we even got to talk to the owner Esther who was so delightful and told us about the restaurant and how she got it! The restaurant inside and out was very entertaining with all the decor and fun signs that will keep you interested! 10/10 would recommend to stop in for a bite if you live here or just passing by for a trip! read more

Fun decor with lots of crazy signs that will start you laughing! I had shrimp fajitas with medium spice. They were pretty bland but well prepared and I spiced them up at the table with hot sauce( lots of different choices at various tables). My dining partner had the rajas wet burrito with verde sauce. It was large and filling and he would order it again. Think of a chile' relleno stuffed into a large tortilla with corn, rice, and chicken... As family run Mexican restaurants go, this is a Gem! How it came to be on Drummond Island I have no clue but the islanders are the better for it. Esther's is good food. Not just "Drummond" good or "UP" good; but dang good Mexican cuisine. Esther toils behind the scenes to make authentic, reliable, and high-quality food that's the best around. Perhaps not worth a trip to Drummond just to get; but if you're on the Gem of the Huron, certainly stop in. Some generous opening hours and a quirky sign- and bobble head-laden restaurant is welcoming. You'll be greeted by good service and great food. Esther's also does take-away, so feel free to grab a taco to eat on the beach. Eating in or to-go, Esther's is likely the best food in Chippewa County. read more

Probably the best food on the island for the price - try the Mexican tacos (cilantro, onion, queso, meat, lime), they are so much better than the standard American. You won't find Mexican food this good anywhere else in the U.P. Authentic, flavorful, a great place to eat. We never miss an opportunity to eat there. When we first discovered it, she was cooking out of a food truck and it was amazing. Now that she has a brick and mortar presence, it's even better. The restaurant has a lot of character; great atmosphere and even better food. She has the best carnitas wet burrito I've had a in long time; even better than I've had in San Diego. Esther's is in a better location and has more, and now indoor, seating than she had when she worked out of her trailer. She will leave out the cilantro on request or will do milder or hotter seasoning. When you sit down a basket of fresh tortilla chips and dish of salsa are placed on the table. A refill is $2.95. Esther has advertised her pies so we ordered and the next day picked up our huge and beautiful apple pie. It was delicious - but the apples were still hard and crisp - even more delicious after it was baked for another hour. The restaurant has a fun and friendly vibe. Esther's is closed Sunday and Monday. read more

Service was ok. Nothing like Mexican town in Detroit! More like a lower version of a Chipolte's. Started with chips and salsa. Chips not authentic chips, they were red, green & yellow. Salsa was low grade Pico de gallo minus cilantro & lime juice, not much flavor. I had wet burrito. Very little shredded beef, mostly filler of beans & rice. Flavor was just ok. Husband had taquitos, again not much flavor. When he asked for a mild red sauce he received a small side of sauce that they had heated up. Also if you want more chips n "salsa" expect to pay an extra $5. Usually one portion of chips is more than enough however, after ordering we sat for 1/2 hr, so we asked for more chips. We go to Drummond every year & will make sure friends & family go to the others restaurants on the island that are much better. read more
